Win Rood will be Wendy Bartle's guest for this week's edition of "Fans in the Stands", which can be seen during the first intermission of the Komets Game of the Week broadcast. Rood has been working as an off-ice official for 47 years and currently serves as the managing supervisor over all such officials at Komets home games. Among other things, he will discuss his early experiences as a fan of the team as well as a few of the interactions he has had with players off the ice. He will also detail what the work of an off-ice official includes, offering a glimpse into some of the things that go on behind the scenes to ensure that every facet of the game is recorded accurately. Remember to tune in to Comcast channel 55 or Verizon Fios channel 25 at 8 PM on Wednesday, March 3 or at 4 AM or Noon on Thursday, March 4 to learn more about Rood, his sagacious understanding of the game, and his many years of dedicated service to the Fort Wayne Komets.

I could add He's a great guy to work for but somebody will accuse me of sucking up, so I will not. But he is!
Win is a very kind man. He and his son would come into a restaurant that me and my cousin worked at (long ago) and would sit at the bar and talk Komets everytime they would come in.
Schebig is a brown nose
You knew that was coming! LOL. My only regret is that I really didn't have any time to prepare for this one -- I only just met him a few minutes beforehand, so I was literally making it up on the spot. He deserved better than that.
Sometimes impromtu interview's turn out the best......
Blake, whatever happened to "One more thing coming a little later" from the "Komets beat Flint 6-5" post ?
"sagacious" ? Did someone burp? Don't use words like that in a hockey crowd. What does that mean anyway? If it means something like "vast" just say "vast".
Win would stop and talk to us and give our horse rescue a donation. Always talked KOMET HOCKEY with us also. He is a very knowlageble about many things.
Oh, thank God....Alan, I have an honors Bachelor degree, and I had NO idea what that word meant. I was gonna have to get out a dictionary and look it up! Thanks for making me feel less like an idiot. It makes my day a little better. :)
Just for that, I and definitely working that work into tomorrow's story.
Blake.....no more foo-foos while blogging. Seriously! LOL....and not that I needed it because I am such the shy and retiring type (yeah, right!!!), but how did my interview with Wendy not get the grand introduction that everyone else's has on here? I was just sort of feeling a little left out of the "and this week's interviewee is..." club. I did not even swear during mine....all so that Otto and Tim would not have extra work to do bleeping me out. How thoughtful of me. :) At least I don't remember swearing....I'd have to go back and watch the DVR...surely Otto would have bleeped me. Wendy did ask me about Muskegon, though, and I politely declined to answer that question. So, yeah, I'm pretty sure no swearing was involved. During the interview, anyway....
Er... Isn't that kind of rude to say if I'm addressing a hockey crowd, I must use small words? Besides, "sagacious" is just another form of "sage". No mystery there. Surely everyone knows what that means. You want to see me use words that no one has heard of? Don't tempt me, mister. I have a thesaurus right where I can get to it. :P
And yeah, sorry about that BLB. I didn't get the blurb sent to Blake that week, though I did send it to you, as I recall. It was on my blog, so it got a grand introduction there. And hopefully Jason's clip will be on YouTube soon. :)
BLB, I feel sad for me too :{
I don't think what Alan posted was rude, I think it was honest. I have a masters degree and I didn't know what sagacious meant. Blueline Baby posted that she has a honors Bachelor degree and didn't know what it meant either. I'm sure there were others when they read that said to themselves, "hmm...wonder what that means"...anyway, I'm sure the interview was great...too bad I will miss it since I will be at the game.
Just another thought. I really like listening to the bloggers on the interviews, but is it possible to get players who are not playing interviewed also? I always enjoy listening to what athletes have to say about what is going on. It is just a thought.
Thanks for the post Wendy. I could tell by the tone of your thoughts that you took my contribution in the correct way. I must admit that I have never heard of the word "sagacious" before. Apparently the root word is "sage" and in the context you used it I do know what you meant. By the way, and don't tell anyone else this: I have been known to tell other people, when describing a typical hockey crowd, that sometimes it is just a step above a Professional Wrestling crowd. Many times it is a small step. Let's just keep that between you and me. I don't want to anger the other bloggers.......by the way, I see where Blake is now going to use the word "sagacious" in his next article. I hope that all the readers don't let their eyes glaze over when attempting follow his thought. If he does use the word he just may become the "Terry Ficcorelli" of print in Fort Wayne.
I have a degree in electronics and put it to use the other day, my very first(old) flat screen tv lost sound, speakers shot, so I rigged a 9V amplifier up through the headset jack on the tv and hooked a speaker up to that, all is good except for the way the hillbilly rigging looks. At least I thought I was very sagacious in my effort.
Savage puts sagacious all over his biscuits and gravy, umm umm good.
I graduated from the school of HARD KNOCKS. I have a degree in Kempo karate-muuy thai-jujitsu.
Sage=a color of green
Sage=a spice
How the H-E-double hockey sticks would I have known that that root word meant "wise or vast"? I thought the dude had some green knowledge of hockey or some spicy hockey stories.
I guess that makes me D-U-M-B. I better switch to watching badminton instead, since according to Alan, I am not even qualified to watch pro wrestling. Thanks, anyway, Andrea....you tried to back me up....and you had valid points that were well supported by appropriate documentation. Oops....there I go, using big words. Old habits die hard. :)
Sagacious (Webster Dictionary): adj. mentally quick and discerning; judicious; wise; acute.
Sage: adj. sager, sagest, 1. wise; discerning 2. showing wisdom: n. 1. an elderly man held in great respect for his experienced wisdom and sound judgment. 2. an aromatic herb of the mint family used in seasoning foods. 3. sagebrush.-sagely adv. -sageness, n.
Vast: adj. 1. of great extent; immense. 2. very great in number, degree, intensity, etc...: n. a boundless space. -vastly, adv.- vastness, n.
Now I looked up the definitions of the above words due to the conversations going on because I didnt remember the word sagacious used as another meaning for the word vast... The dictionary I have is older; but I dont see the connection based on the definitions available... Maybe its the poor "just above pro wrestling" mentality that I possess that prohibits me from understanding such seldomly used words as sagacious..... Maybe one of the infinitely sagacious contibuters to this board can clue me in.....lol :)
How about, odoriferous odor
I wrote one for you too, mightbite. In your case, Blake didn't start mentioning them until later.
No tones. Just tongue in cheek. Oh wait. Can I say that? Does everyone know what that means? The thing is, I run across words and expressions all the time that I'm not familiar with. I don't complain about it. I learn from it. I think that's what we've done here. After all of this, I'm sure none of you will ever wonder what "sagacious" means again. LOL. In any case, I find that's it's best to assume people already know things, whether they do or not. They tend to get offended if you treat them like they don't.
I thinks its great Wendy... It gives me a chance to dust off the part of my vocabulary that I normally dont get to use much anymore... Between the military and my current job on the pipeline the majority of my vocabulary tends to be a lil "off-color"....lol I think the real problem comes from Alan's assertion that most hockey fans mental make-up's are just above the moron level...
As for players, Randy has had some on as guest commentators (Brad MacMillan and Vince Tarantino, not to mention P.C. Drouin last year), which is always pretty cool. I don't get to talk to them. They don't even see me, 'cause apparently I have the power to turn invisible. But only when hockey players are looking. LOL.
JR, you're right....the attitude that we hockey fans are morons was a wee bit insulting. But we know that that is an incorrect assumption all around, so let's just pretend that it was not even said at all. That's what I'm going to do, anyway! :)
And Wendy, I do love learning new words (I'm was language major!). I think it was your phrase "Surely everyone knows what that means" that got me. Because then when I did not know what that meant, that sort of made me feel a lil' dumb. The power of words...
BLB, what are you talking about??????? LOL
JR....this post from earlier was what I was referring to....
"I think the real problem comes from Alan
