Tailing the Komets

What the league said

I talked with IHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones after the game, and he said Bob Langdon called a penalty shot because a reasonable scoring opportunity was taken away. It's a misconception that if a player gets a shot off a penalty shot cannot be called, Jones said.

"The rule is that if a player is fouled from behind and there's nobody between him and the goaltender and a reasonable scoring opportunity is taken away because of a foul in the judgment of the referee to make that call, it's a penalty shot," Jones said. "He felt in his judgment that a reasonable scoring opportunity was taken away. He felt that he would have had a better opportunity if Guy hadn't fouled him. Did he get a shot off? Yes, he did."

Jones said the call is under Rule 57.3 in the rule book .

Guy said after the game he did push Robinson's elbow with his stick and Robinson was ahead of him on the play.

"I was trying to distract his shot a little bit and touched his elbow," Dupuis said. "He was still able to get a shot on net. Was that supposed to be a penalty shot? I'm not a referee but he still got a shot on net and Bouch made the save. The referee thought it should have been a penalty shot."

Under that interpretation of the rule, it should have been a penalt

Langdon throws Sims out of a playoff game last year, then this terrible judgement call. I nominate Langdon for the on ice official Idiot of the year award, 2 years running, is his judgement what got him canned from the NHL, I'm guessing yes.

I can't stand ref's they get in the way of the game.

Where's Mondalek, I would expect stupidity out of him.

And this is the best IHL ref......Wonder who the ref for game 5 will be? Searle again? Hope it isn't Hoberg.

I will say that I much rather have a Langdon called game than a Hawthorne game. Langdon lets them play hockey for the most part.

Bring back old George Harrison. I remember playoff games he called where 1 or 2 calls were made tops. Let them play hockey

I am pumped up for Friday. Let's go Komets!!!!!!!!!

Pack the house Fort Wayne.....even you too you bandwagon jumpers that attend one game a year....LOL.

Aah... Strange call, but I'll take that over refs with "intent to blow"... like that Detroit/Anaheim game on Tuesday night. I don't know about intent, but it certainly blows. Lol.

Hope to see everyone on Friday! :)

Strange call is not the correct wording, WRONG call would be the right thing to say about it. Do not expect anyone from the IHL to tell you that. The problem is in the rule, "If in the judgement of the referee" need I say more. Anyway that is history. A side story, a very nice lady found my cell phone and will bring it to the game Friday. She is from Muskegon. I was treated very nice by all their fans. I hope she gets tickets earlly because the Jungle faithful will sell out the place. We will win Friday, take it to the bank.

I have a real problem with that call because on the we Lagdon calls a game. He lets them play and makes the players decide the outcome. In that situation he took out of the players hands. Should a penalty been called yes and give Muskegon a PP, but to call a penalty shot in a 2 -2 hockey game with 4:38 minutes left was wrong. What would you expect the league to say, "he was wrong" no they are going to be politically correct in that instance and support Langdon. If his definition of "reasonable" was on display last night, Langdon should have called about 30 penalty shots during the year.

I agree with ToeBlake. Guy should have been hit with a 2 min minor for hooking and that is all. The penalty shot was total BS.

So that's what the deal was, eh? We were wondering in the stands last night, and it came up in talk while waiting in line at the coliseum for Game 5 tickets. Bogus.

ToeBlake, I will agree with you Landon (I feel) did not let the game be decided by the players. He tried to (again my feeling) influence the outcome of the game. If it was a hooking penalty than call that. He sure got off a pretty good shot. I haven't found anyone that thinks that should have been a "Penalty Shot" with the exception of VP of Hockey Operations for the IHL Brad Jones. Having said that I will take the same high road as Coach Al Sims. It is history, it is what it is. Let's just kick some butt Friday. GO KOMETS!

No doubt it is mute point, because the game did go into OT but if that game had ended with that play there would have been a little more bashing of Langdon. I think Langdon is the one who wrote the "Prison Rules" for the IHL that Bouchard referred to

Dschebig.....do you want me to send your resume to Brad Jones so you can become an "on-ice" official.....LOL

Hit Somebody!!! If Brad Jones reads this blog and he takes my comments personal I am certain he will tell me to my face I should keep my oppinion to myself. However, he is not that kind of a guy. I know we can talk about it and agree to disagree. I just know him well enough to say he is very professional and me well I'll leave that up to others.

John Searle Friday night. He was the same guy in game #7 last year. Things are looking up!
