Couldn't agree more with what you said, Blake. 93 was our,"do you believe in miracles." Greatest athletic events I have ever seen in my life. As for the last 3 years, no question the 2008 team was the best.

I agree with your analysis of the teams pretty much Blake. I think the 2009 team was pretty dang good overall though. That was a team that played without Colin Chaulk for the last 2 months of the year, added a Leo Thomas who most people thought was a questionable move because he was known as a not so good locker-room guy other places he played prior, and yet this team got better and better as the year went along and peaked in the playoffs to slaughter Muskegon. MVL came in and played well for us, also another guy with a not so good reputation that everyone questioned as having no character and no heart, then PC goes down before the playoffs, and we dominate without him, although K-Zoo gave us a nice run. Players of note had to be O'Connor and Curadeau as those 2 were incredible particularily down the stretch. Curdy was the most talented player in the league mostly all season long.
One thing you didn't mention about this years team....I think the goaltending was the best on this team of the 3 years, and it was the best in the league we have seen in 3 years of the IHL and maybe the best or at least top 2 or 3 in the last 10 years we have seen at this level. I think you discount the talent as you say no star offensive players, but I think you have to look at the goaltending this year and see that may have been why the offensive numbers were down. Plus the coaches in this league were all playing a defensive style of game....from Anzalone, to Marks, to Muzatti, to Kromm, to Sims. They all had pretty good defensive teams and good goaltending for the most part, better goaltending than we have seen for a long while.
2008 was a great year....I think I give the edge to the 2003 team if you look at that team in comparison. Bobby Stewart and Sean Venedam were special special players that year.
It is fun to compare though. We have been blessed with great Komet teams. Fun to be a Komet fan.
Hope we see a bigger and better league next season. We deserve it.

Hit, I know we have debated this round and round, but I do not think the goaltending was that exceptional this year in the league. It's basically the same guys except Rob Nolan and Sebastien Centomo. The rest didn't suddenly get that much better. I also don't think the defensemen in the league was any better this year. I just don't see it. There was better talent man-for-man in the league in 2008. Much better all-around defensemen especially.

Russo in PH was great up there.
Haun was great here.
Centomo was great in Musky.
Nolan was great in Flint.
Kaufman had good numbers in QC.
Mior is a good goalie in Dayton, wasn't he hurt?
Plus I think coaching style was a factor.
I agree that 2008 was better overall than the other 2.
2003 takes the cake in AA in Fort Wayne.

I think the 08' team was a little bit more special with the way they won in triple overtime, but then you look at the 03' team and they went 11-1 in the playoffs. So it's a little 50-50 for me. Really difficult to rank championship teams... Especially three in a row where the core nucleus didnt change much. I think all three teams were stronger than the others in different areas. I'm not even gonna try to rank them because it kinda dulls the 3peat accomplishment (to me)trying to put one team above the others.

Just keeping the conversation involving the 3-peat.
The 2008 team was just loaded with talent, set the consecutive home winning streak record, and finished with a thrilling 3 overtime win to clinch the Cup. Hard to top that.
However, I think I would give the nod to the 2009 team. That Turner Cup Championship seemed to be the one where I got the most satisfaction. The 2009 team was decimated with injuries all season long. They hung in there with a total team effort to stay in contention. Then, as the team started to get healthy and they got all the "parts" going again, they just jelled and took off.
In the finals against Muskegon, it was evident that the K's had much more team speed, better and quicker defensemen, and superior goaltending. ( Remember too, that their leading scorer, P.C. Druin, missed the playoffs due to a broken arm.)
They had a tough hill to climb and they never quit.

I remember the the '93 team very well. Those "vagabonds" just didn't know how good they were until it was over and they had won 12 in a row to go undefeated in their run for the cup... Every "Championship" team is very special. Each brought something different to the ice. They all leave special memories. Who was the best is really up to who is rating them. No one is wrong.

I loved the '93 team, got pretty loaded with Bawa and Butters at the party. Sims had given the bartenders strict instructions not to serve alcohol to the players so I ended up running for them. The after season parties were more like parties in those days. Before the last game with Atlanta in that series I ended up with most of their team for about an hour. I asked their goalie (Bergeron) if he knew how many teams have come back from being down 3-0 in a series (0 at that time), he said "No, and I don't want to know.). Good guys as always and had a good time with them.
The final series against San Diego that year was one of my favorites. They had such a hot season (132 pts in 82 games) and were so sure of winning they didn't bother scouting the Ks. It was fun watching Rick Dudley have fits, throwing stuff and all. It was so sweet to sweep them.

Could involve the owner of the Evansville Icemen as a major player in the new (or revamped) ownership group. Sounds like it may come down to what the lawyers hash out in the lease saga at Perani...

It wasn't a type-o though, it was a misrepresentation of the 1993 Komet's team. If people don't correctly state the history, it will be passed down from generation to generation as misinformation. People reading this board, who I'm pretty sure are more "recent" fans will be misinformed from someone that they probably respect that posts here.
If you think I'm giving him a hard time, your wrong Burgee. I was personally offended when Mr. Schebig stated that the Port Huron reporter was personally responsible for Muskegon going to the USHL. Was that a type-O? Or an opinion.....so how are people going to take this information when they read it? I'll tell ya, they are going to take it the wrong way and look dumb when they talk about it. I try to protect people from being misinformed, then talking about it like they know something. That either breeds a lot more misinformation, or it comes back to the source and that person gets called to task for it. So in essence, I'm protecting him. I'm sorry if my words are coming across as "picking", I'll put an LOL after each blog post.

One thing a do like to read on this blog is stories from the 73 and previous seasons, ones that I have never been able to be a part of or see. I hope I was not being misinformed about those seasons, because they all sounded like great memories.
