If you are anxious to begin gardening, you can head out into your garden and begin cleaning up for spring. It is a great time to prune back the grapevines, rake up all the dead vegetation, and even add some well-composted manure and compost around all your perennials, shrubs, and trees. In the meantime, when you have done all that and are still impatient to begin actual gardening, start seeds indoors - even plant some early, cool weather vegetables in your vegetable garden or raised bed.

Friday, March 9, Allen County Public Library, Meeting Rooms A and B. 6 to 6:30 p.m. will be an appetizer buffet and cash bar and 6:30 to 7:15 is a lecture by Andrea Wulf, author of Founding Gardeners. 7:15 to 8 p.m. is Q&A time and book signing. British author Andrea Wulf answers with her educational and entertaining “Founding Gardeners: The Revolutionary Generation, Nature, and the Shaping of the American Nation”, the story of early America as seen through the lens of horticulture. Horticulture, you ask? Definitely, and Wulf connects plants with politics in her work, which focuses on three Virginia plantation owners (George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison) and the holder of a small farm near Boston, John Adams. Wulf examines America’s origins through a new prism, and in so doing enriches Americans’ understanding of their heritage.”
Later in the month, Monday, March 19, at the Aboite Branch Library at 7:00 p.m., there will be a FREE workshop where you can learn how to grow great veggies. (Space is limited so plan to arrive early):
