The paying crowd ate that up. Old school hockey fans who watched it on tv ate it up. Look at the view count on Youtube -- they loved it. So I guess its something that should be taken out of the game....yeah, that makes sense. And "staged fight" -- this was a carry-over from their previous games. This kind of emotion, drama and intensity is exactly what makes hockey better than any other sport. If this kind of stuff doesn't get you adrenaline flowing, you have no buisness watching the sport anyhow.

Exactly the fans were going crazy and you know what the rest of the game without the fights was very intense cause the teams hate each other and want to win so bad!
The whole staged fight argument is crap, I have heard several players say who is some outsider to determine what is "staged". So much happens from previous games and if you are gonna ask the refs to sit and decide what is staged and what is not...that just stupidity.
I also don't buy the excuse that fighting keeps fans away, those people aren't coming anyway to the games. Everybody talks about the Komets vs Indy Ice games and how great they were...yet now certain people want fighting gone or elements of it.
Hockey isn't popular enough to drive more fans away because some fans are "soft".
