Tailing the Komets

Earning respect

After he suffered a shoulder injury Friday night, no one on the team expected Matt Firman to play the rest of the weekend, but the rookie forward even scored the game-winning goal Saturday night. He's earning a ton of respect from his teammates.

``He's a warrior,'' Kaleigh Schrock said.

Firman said he was just trying to help out.

``I got bruised and it gets better every day,'' Firman said. ``It's tough to take a hit, but I'm just doing what I can out there. I know we're a little low on numbers so I'm just doing what I can to try and help the team.''

Another note: Matt Kennedy said he hopes to be able to play sometime this week, and he expects to be here when he does.

Do you know when Chaulk might be back?

He was going to start skating today, but it might be another two weeks.

I have very much enjoyed watching Firman's game develop this season...  This reason is why I am going to love the ECHL brand of hockey.  I am very glad he's gotten a regular shift here lately.

So Blake, your saying he did not start skating today, your not sure, or he did start skating; but will not be ready for game action for a couple more weeks....  Myself and a friend have read your post different ways....  Thanks

He started skating, but he's got a good two weeks of two-a-days before he'll probably be ready to go. Now, knowing Colin, if they  have a bunch of injuries and desperately need a body in a week or so, he'd activate himself. Because of the injury, he hasn't been able to do anything to maintain his conditioning with his legs. Look how long it has taken Giosa to get back up to speed, and he's had a bunch of games over a short time to get into game shape. The way the schedule works out, Colin may have to do it the hard way in practice and then it may take him longer to get up to full speed.

Firman is a beast. Not a quick guy but conservative and smart. He starts offensive opportunities and has more takeaways than anyone else on the team, especially on penalty kill.

I know. You'd never think he'd be on the PK, but he has great anticipation.
