Tailing the Komets

Komets pounded by Toledo

I think tonight proved that the Komets need to make some drastic changes to their line-up or either an adjustment to their system you should not have the mental lapses this team is having with defensive hockey.  Honestly if you are having to have to"reteach" the basic concepts at this point then you have a major problem.  While I agree with wingers having supporting roles in defensive hockey I think the Blue-Line core is a major issue, not overly impressed with what is on the backend.  Will be intersting to see if any moves are made over the next week to 10 days or if they stay put with what they have now.  Tonight was the breaking point for the goalies where they were keeping the K's in games.  Hopefully they can get things in order or they are in for a long season and a frustrating one at that.

I resolve to get a great tan in 2013 and watch our Komets hoist that cup with another championship.

Some of these comments sounds almost identical to the ones from last season around this time. some were worried the season would be disastrous then too. Hopefully you are wrong again this season.

Firman IMO is improving game by game despite the short comings from the majority of the team.

I am planning on attending the finals in Alaska to see the Komets win another championship. I'm using rapid rewards to get to vegas, anyone have Alaska Airlines freebies to get me from vegas to Alaska? I'll trade 25,000 American or Delta miles for it and throw in an autographed Icy Doll.

BAM24 knows more about unicorns than hockey.

I have $100 on Boucher being in net by the playoff signing deadline.

The Bears are looking for a new head coach and the COLTS are in the playoffs, AGAIN! Hahahahahahahahahaha!

I'm going to start this very long post off with some background information... I'm 16 years old (yes I know 16 but don't stop reading this post now) been going to games since I was 5 months old. Some of my youngest memories are that of Bruce Ramsay, Doug Teskey, Kelly Hurd, Ian Boyce, Robin Bawa, Keli Corpse, Brent Gretzky etc. I love hockey and the komets, I look forward to games weeks in advance. All my art projects in elementary and even middle school were all drawings of komet players and logos. I pass up on high school basketball and football games with friends to come to komet games by myself all the time with no regret win or lose. While most teens would much rather turn on the video games on a Friday night I would sell my game system in a second just to come to one game. Now fortunately having a grandpa who has been an off ice official for a very long time, I have the privilege of attending games for free, but that is irrelevant. Instead of dressing up all nice trying to impress some chick at a game, I rock a komet jersey to every with pride. I am there to be a part of the crowd and watch the game and team I love. Now moving on to my point of this post: The atmosphere is dead, gone. In a world in which people/teens mostly are drawn to technology, i miss the days with a passion that the only reason you looked at the scoreboard was to check the score or time etc. No poorly done videos or fake noise meters or cheesey advertisements. Nothing on the scoreboard prompted us to get loud, just Larry's voice telling us to fill up an actual noise meter to get the team pumped up for a Powerplay or penalty kill. I wouldn't mind all these fancy scoreboards if they used them right, seriously light up everything pink and green and blue and every other color when the team comes out on the ice? Seriously fake crowd noise when welcome to the jungle comes on? We have the highest attendance in our league by 1000 and we need fake crowd noise for OUR song? Seriously 2 people stand up when the team comes out of the locker room and cheer? Seriously when we get down by a goal or 2 we have people criticizing players left and right and in worse cases like 9-4 we have people fake cheering for the other team? Seriously I hear like 1 or 2 "lets go komets" chants all night? The atmosphere is gone. Even in times like these where the team is struggling a bit, there is no excuse. The atmosphere was the best part coming to games back in the days of the UHL when people ran around with flags before the team came out of the locker room and sometimes even stuffed pigs tied to a rope against Rockford. I miss rock and roll part 2 who cares if it's offensive to a couple people it's part of the atmosphere that people used to love but now obviously don't. Does anyone ever wonder how a positive crazy supportive atmosphere might have a positive effect on the team? Playing a cheesey New Year's Eve video and then having icy "glide" out on the loud hover thing and then having the team come out to ugly colors is the best they can give the fans for buying 10,000 of there tickets? There is no enthusiasm anymore on both the management or whoever is in charge of gamenight operations or marketing or on the fans part. We have to hire some sweaty guy to dance and throw t shirts which no offense to him he was just doing his job, but there is just no unique atmosphere anymore, it's hardly a jungle there is nothing that separates us from any other hockey fan base anymore. Yeah sure we have alot of fans and yeah sure we hate refs, but "lets go komets" chats are dead, goal songs are dead, icy is showing up less and less. I understand with the way leagues are today and people are that some "offensive" things may never come back like rock and roll part 2 or the "sucks" chant. But basic things like "lets go komets" chants or getting rowdy when the team comes out of the locker room. Everything I used to like about the atmosphere of the jungle is pretty much gone. And i by no means am intending to offend anyone by this post i love every fan in the building you guys are like family to me. I know I'm rambling on and if you have made it to reading this far then I'm giving you a virtual pat on the back, but i can't keep all this stuff in my head anymore. I would like to know what other people have noticed in the past few years as far as the atmosphere fading into almost a pick up hockey game. Maybe we can come up with ideas to help get the jungle rocking again, i sure wish it was the way it used to be when I would be dying all Friday during school sitting in class wearing a komet jersey waiting for the komet game later. I still do that, but it's hardly for the sake of being a part of the crowd anymore. I know alot of venting hopefully I made sense I hate trying to make a point via text. Lets get the jungle rocking in this new year! Happy New Years everyone and go komets!

Hegarty has played well during the past several games...agree.

Sad to see them take out Reiter...only on goal was really his fault...felt they should have left him in.

Chase in post game comments alluded to the fact that the affiliates were going to be sending down help to us...hope not....we have a talented bunch that needs to play as a team.

Thought Reiter played well for the time he was in.

Marino and Smith...as small guys they sure put their hearts and souls into every game....finishing checks, puck handling and passing...love to watch them play.

Prior comments regarding "Komets extras" is true....I have been a season ticket holder the past 7 years and have noticed many changes....lackluster between period entertainment, little to NO enthusiasm in the stands, promotions are boring and repetitive (look at other teams sites to see how into their fans they are); maybe the ownership has gotten to comfortable in their winning ways and their continual season ticket holders attending no matter what type of team is put forth.

Again, it might be time for a change in coaches.

Best of luck K's in the following weeks.....we have some challenging teams coming in.

I agree with you Crazy Luke. The jungle just isnt the same as it use to be. The scoreboard is a big part of it. The energy meter is lame. Why not light up the real energy meter down by the goal horn? And what is with the lame video intro's? That sure doesnt get the crowd into it for the K's. Also, I miss the taunting of the opposing teams. All of a sudden they dont announce the starting lines ups for the other team because we say "Sucks" after every name announced. Whats that do, hurt their feelings? Come on, they all have a potty mouth, and its amazing with what you hear from some of the players. They need to bring back the "Mony Mony" song after the komets get up a couple of goals to taunt the goalie with "Hey guess what your goalie sucks". The jungle just isnt the same and it needs to return to the way it was. Having heard that we had a "negative" atmosphere with all the taunting, I think taking it all away has made it negative. Other teams do it to us when we are on the road. But anyways, Hegarty played well. Hopfully with Brittain being called up, a few guys on the forward line get into the action a little more and start finding the net. Throw the puck on net and generate a rebound whether someone is screening the goalie or not. Trust me, it works. But Hopfully the komets turn it around in 2013. Yes its been frustrating but thats how some season go. Win or lose, I wont stop going to watch the Komets!

weve been thru this before. not time to panic  but time to evaluate and make changes if necesarry. only problem is there arent a lot of bodies out there to bring in. this guy from the fed league was so out of place it was funny but thats whats out there. you can trade a guy to another team for another struggling guy but theres no guarntee the new guy will get it going so sometimes sticking with what you know is the best policy. last night i thought the midgets(the forwards anyhow) played well and firman and klotz.   only problems i have with out team is that we arent nasty enuff.  where are the d men who would take an opposing players head off for as little as spraying ice in a goalies face???maggio and butler need to step it up alittle. henley too but he seems to get called for a penalty anytime he just touches someone.  we have two small dmen who are probably nice guys but netiher can check and cannot contain any forwards behind the net.  we need a coupl of buisers back there. we have the scoring power we just need to give them some room and we can do this by putting the scare into the opposing team. right now no one is afraid to come into the petting zoo.  lets get nasty and bring back the jungle.  remember the original brusie brothers?? they werent called that cause they looked mean  in the team poster! euff said. i have faith in the frankees and sims. now its up to the players.  new league new expectations. time to adjust and win.

Hey Alan

Wasn't it you who, just a few blog posts ago, was taking Blake to task for his "abrasive...sarcastic style"? Now you use it to chastise a 16 year old with arguably more spirit and passion than you'll ever have. Instead of criticizing others, why don't you stick to writing your books of Komet Hockey analysis.

You go, Crazy Luke. You write however you want to write. This is a blog, not your English Composition class.

I think marino usually does really good but he was in a slump last night Risk was the only other one that stood out. But to the comment the entire atmosphere has changed its like we as fans arent aloud to cheer how we usued to and it takes a lot away from the fans. we just sit there now and thing are diffrent i dont like it.

Agree with the other anonymous...why on earth would someone need to point out the flaws of a comment on a hockey blog from a passionate 16 year old fan?! Strange to say the least. I loved what Luke had to say. Good job!!

Hey Anonymous.  Seems like my post has been eliminated.  However if you could read it again, I think you would remember that I called him  a passionate fan.  Still, I don't know hoew you can criticize my comment about English Composition and paragraph usage,  He was the one who admitted to daydreaming about Komet games when in school.   The age of 16 is plenty old enough to write well.  I don't agree with everything he wrote but I'll always defend someone for their thoughts and their right to express them, even you.

Your alluding of me to dare call Blake Sebring out regarding abrasive and accusatory style and compare it to this boy is laughable.  One is a kid and the other is a professional journalist.  If you can't tell the difference makes my point.

I wasn't trying to be smug or anything else.  And, by the way, I have had plenty of blog readers call me at my home praising my post on chiro...chirp...chirp.  Others such as Blast  and BlueLine Baby supported me on the blog, itself.

This brings me to one last point, if you don't like what I write nor the length of what I write, just skip over it.  No one will mind.

I spent more time on the post then the komets did making that video last night haha jokes aside, happy new year to everyone lets all get along as fans in 2013 and hopefully we see more consistency out of the komets in 2013

I think I want to call Alans bluff on people calling him at home on his chirp chirp chirp post.

Let me guess, Anonymous called!

I have been trolling this blog since its inception in 2005, i've read alot, posted enough manure to fill a pig pit, but, the phone call line is an original.

I'm going to jump off the fiscal cliff before those making over $450,000 a year find the tax loopholes to void their tax increase they just received, darn too late.

off the post, I don't feel threatened at all.  Glad to see someone posting, especially someone new.  I think Crazy Luke took my post in the way that I intended.  Good for him.  I think even he would admit that his post would've been easier to read with some paragraphs thrown in.

To Phil Chifley.  I was absolutely telling the truth.  I will reveal this much.  One of the persons' calling me is a relative of both Janice and Mark 21.  They will recognize this person from that statement. The others are Komet fans who read this blog but won't post on it for fear of being criticized for their thoughts. Some are ex-posters who got fed up with the purge that ocurred 18-24 months ago.  They know who I am because once in a while I will sign my post with my first and last name.  I'm in the book.  Others are friends from other parts of life.  Ex-workers, golfers, etc. who follow the Komets and read the blog.

And you know what, Phil or Burgee or whatever your name is today?  I've told you way too much because, quite frankly, it's none of your business,

To Blake Sebring:  So Phil can post his disbelief about some calling me at my home ( which to me is like calling me a liar, and you don't eliminate his post, yet you eliminated my post to Crazy Luke)?

Blake Sebring
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 12:42pm

If I could have eliminated just that part of your post about Crazy Luke I would have. I don't have that option so I had to eliminate the entire thing. And what's the difference between Phil expressing doubt about that part of your post and some of the things you have posted which I have allowed to remain? You do the same thing to others here all the time.

Alan
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 1:06pm

All the time?  I do?  If you can give an example I would appreciate it.  I mean this in a very, very serious way.  No jokes here, no sarcasm.  Maybe I'm so close to the situation that I can't see it or realize it. I can't learn to do better until it gets pointed out to me.  I'm very willing to learn and admit when I'm wrong.  I didn't realize I was beoming such a hindrance to the blog.

I try to put my feelings into words.  I've tried to use logic and facts to express myself.  I will take an unpopular stance when I feel it is needed.  I call that honesty.  But, if you and the bloggers would rather have me stop posting, I will.  One way or another is OK.  Just let me and the blog know.  For those who call me, please use the blog for this and not phone calls. Otherwise it cannot be verified.

Do not let them silence YOUR opinion, Alan....

Some just have no clue how to handle constructive criticism...even when it's not about them....

Blake Sebring
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 1:38pm

If he was silenced, he wouldn't be posting here. Sorry, I'm not going to let anyone jump on kids who post here. If I could have edited just that part of his post out and left the rest, I would have.

There are plenty of places to post and call people names, but this is not one of them. Please remember that this is a business site.

If anyone thinks I'm doing this for money or praise from the bosses or whatever, well, that might be the funniest thing I've ever heard because none of that is happening.

sad thing is.. the kid had a good evaluation at a young age. who cares if the grammar was not correct. this is not english class . ive seen alot of mis-spellings and horrible grammar here, mine included. yours to alan. so, why was it so important to point this out to a young new blogger that obviously reads here because he loves the game. why couldnt you just evaluate his opinion of komet hockey and write response ? just curious..

JR1
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 1:55pm

I never saw the post in question, so I cannot say anything one way or the other about it...  I was simply stating that Alan should not let his opinion be silenced (as a whole) on the blog...

It does seem that some fans are allowed to post anything they wish as long as it is not taking issue with the Komets play.  Lets face it, a lot of fans post bashing other fans giving their honest opinion and contribute little to any real hockey discussion.  They name call all the time (just none of the commonly thought of naughty words/names) because they do not like others taking an objective view of their team...  And it is allowed...

I am a STH, have put my money where my mouth is before the season ever started and have been called more things than I can count by people that have never been banned and by some who have...  All because I point out the negatives about my team I follow in hopes they will get better...  I do not know one fan, who posts in what some consider a negative way, that wants to see the team get worse...

Blake Sebring
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 2:11pm

Well said, JR.

This all started, it seems, because I asked why the blog hits seem to die after wins. I wasn't trying to start a fire, but to ask an honest question. Judging by the lack of posts after wins, it led me to wonder if some would rather see the team lose than win. I didn't attack any individuals, I just asked a legitimate question that I was curious about.

Some took that personally when it was not intended to be. I truly wanted to know the answer.

JR1
Wed, 01/02/2013 - 2:23pm

And thats the thing Blake, NOBODY posts after wins (or very, very few)...  Everyone goes home feeling good after wins.  The weak points are still there; but overcome in wins; but when the weak points are not fixed or havent improved they become magnified during losses...

The people who have the guts, IMO, to post what they think is wrong (and fixable) are the only ones pointed out.  Why not ask why all those who are considered "positive" posters are not posting after wins???
