Tailing the Komets

Milam returning to Komets

From a Komets' press release

The Komets announced Monday that defenseman Jamie Milam has agreed to terms and will join the Komets for the remainder of the 2012-13 campaign.

Milam, 28, will be joining the Komets for his third stint after helping the Komets to the CHL Presidents’ Cup Championship last year.  The veteran blue liner started this season splitting time between Cardiff of the EIHL (England) and GKS of the Poland elite league.

“By signing Jamie for the rest of the season and playoffs we are reaching back to last year’s championship team,” said Komet general manager David Franke.  “Jamie is a proven player in the ECHL as well as the other leagues he has played in and he will quarterback our power play which is an area we need help.”

Milam first appeared with the Komets while making his pro debut in March of 2006 after completing four seasons (2002-2006) with Northern Michigan in the NCAA.  The Lake Orion, Michigan native won his first CHL Championship while a member of Bossier-Shreveport in 2010-11 before joining the Komets for 2011-12 appeariang in all 66 regular season games leading Fort Wayne defensemen with 20 goals and adding 21 assists for 41 points. Milam also skated all 18 playoff games contributing three goals and 12 points en route to his second Presidents’ Cup Crown.

There is a possibility Milam will meet with the Komets in Colorado for the weekend and could enter the lineup in time for Friday night’s game.

WIsh they had him all year long on the point. What I always find interesting is how they always seem to reach into the past to improve the team. Always seems like they are leary to bring someone in from another team via a trade. Perhaps they will but it appears that way

Glad to see he's coming back. He will be a good asset, should have never let him go. I'm wondering who they will pair him up with. Maybe that person will be able to step up their game a little bit.

Ok. Great to have him back. However, he is a veteran, if I am not mistaken, so who isn't coming back this year, Chaulk or Henley?

BIG improvement.

Let Henley stay where he is or if he does return use him as trade bait.

The European answer is to make our defense weaker and PP stronger (hopefully)???  When the Komets have had problems its been because they havent covered well at all in the defensive zone and the answer is 2 PP specialists?

Norfolk sucks this season, so the K's must be banking on some help come playoff time...

Henley is back. So, Blake, does that indicate to you Colin is done for the rest of the year?  We now have 5 veterans.

JR 1- dont forget    Norfolk won 28  straight at the end of the season. Then....swept everyone in the playoffs......   crazy things can happen

RG2, I have not forgotten that; but I also know that was accomplished when they were affiliated with Tampa Bay and they had a very good team...  Mainly an all new team in Norfolk this season...

Just cut Henley and make the whole team stronger.

Hey JR1   got a question for you or Blake. Of the  players who are currently NOT on the roster, who( Norfolk  or previous  Norfolk players) at this time would be eligible for the ECHL playoffs. This is, from what I can make sense of the rules, based upon having at least 5 games with Komets. I am assuming Corey Elkins is dust in the wind.    Thanks

anyone who has played five games.

Thanks Blake.  So, for example,  if Ryan Lasch did not come back /signed before Monday/ europe deadline,  he could still be eligible?  Using Lasch as an example only.

No, I don't believe he would. Teams had to have the player contracts into the league office by 5 p.m., and, and here's the kicker, that player was no longer allowed to play for his European team at that point.

Now, there might be some different rules for players coming directly from AHL teams, but I've been told they have to have five games in. I think Gabe Guentzel has three so far, so he'd have to come down for three more regular-season games.

Here's the rules from the league. Let me know when your lawyer gets done figuring them out. LOL.

(a) For a Player to be named to a Member’s Playoff Roster or Playoff Eligible List, the Player must be signed to a Standard Player Contract, or be signed to an NHL/AHL contract, and be included on the Member’s Playoff Roster or Playoff Eligible List, to be submitted to the League by 3:00 pm ET on Monday, April 1, 2013. All Players must have proper immigration status approved if applicable. A Player signed to an ATO (tryout contract) may not be included on a Member’s Playoff Roster (barring emergency conditions).

(b) All Players, with the exception of amateurs, must have played in (i.e. taken at least one shift) at least five (5) League Regular Season games to be eligible for inclusion on a Playoff Roster. For the purposes of this specific Rule only, regarding the minimum ECHL games played requirement, ‘amateur’ shall be defined as any Player, regardless of contract status, who prior to being added to the Member’s Playoff roster, must have completed the entire season (including playoffs if applicable) with his amateur team. Any Player who has quit or left his amateur team prior to the end of the regular season or playoffs will, for the purpose of this Rule, not be considered an amateur and must have played in (i.e. taken at least one shift) at least five (5) League Regular Season games to be eligible for inclusion on a Playoff roster.

 (c) Any former Player with professional experience who went back to university (Canada) and regained his amateur status shall be considered an amateur for the purposes of Playoff eligibility (see (b) above).

 (d) Provided the requirements set forth in paragraph (b) have been met, NHL and AHL contracted Players must also meet the following criteria, prior to the Playoff Roster submission deadline, in order to be eligible to be included on a Member’s Playoff Roster or Playoff Eligible List:

 1. AHL Two-Way Contracted Players (non-veterans) – must have appeared in five (5) AHL regular season games (i.e., taken at least one shift). However, at the discretion of the Member, up to two (2) AHL Two-Way Contracted Players (non-veterans) may be exempt from this requirement.

 2. AHL Two-Way Contracted Players (veterans) - must have appeared in ten (10) AHL regular season games (taken at least one shift). No exemptions permitted.

 3. NHL Contracted Players, AHL One-Way Contracted Players and all Goaltenders – there are no additional requirements in terms of games played in the NHL or AHL to be eligible to be included on a Member’s Playoff roster.

 4. Any Player on an AHL Two-Way Contract at any point during the Season who has subsequently been bought out or released from his AHL contract during the Season shall still be subject to the minimum five (5) or ten (10) game playing requirements as outlined above.
