Tailing the Komets

Few notes

* Florida is leading Cincinnati 4-1 tonight so the Everblades will be nine points up on the Komets going into Friday's game.

* Gabe Guentzel has been recalled to Norfolk. He has played in five games so he would qualify for the Komets playoff roster.

* Scott Kishel is coming off IR and will replace Guentzel on Friday.

* Komets are not expecting to make a deal at the trade deadline on Thursday.

``Right now, I'm not in any discusiions with any teams on any players,'' General Manager David Franke said. ``Personally, I don't think we're going ot make any kind of a trade. Right now the players that we don't want to get rid of is what the other teams are looking for from us. I think we have the team that can get the job done to get into the playoffs.''

* Looks like Mike Hoban may have an arthogram on his ailing shoulder and might not be able to make it back to the ice this season.

* Al Sims and Colin Chaulk have retooled the lines this week, so we'll see that that looks like on Friday.

* Any amateur players the Komets would bring in must count on the regular roster and would count against the salary cap.

* The Komets don't expect Daniel Maggio to return, and they are doubtful on Kenny Reiter.

* Marco Cousineau will be ready to play next week.

Thanks Blake..I wil give you T.Beau is being a good freebie pickup, verdict still out on Syro, Milam, and Gates. Thought Milam signing made sense, but still have doubts about Syro signing. But I am on this side of the aisle where I have all the answers and no consequence, lol.

Chances are slim they make the playoffs, so why not trade away some of these guys that will not be here bext year???  Get what you can for some vets or next season vets and have an early training camp for next year.  Bring in some young guys and let them fight it out til the end of the season...

"Our Guys" took us on a little trip out of the playoffs, so I would not complain at all if the Frankes sent some of them packing in Henley's wake for some prospects....

Great news for Maggio and Reiter!!!  Hope they continue to impress in the AHL...

I agree JR.  I can't see this team making the playoffs.  They will basically need to win out to have a chance to catch up and make it.  For a .500 team, that's a but much to ask.  I think they should be sellers and look to move some assets to build for next season.

i saw that Guenzel didnt play last night for Norfolk and that they still had 8 defenseman yesterday. I dont get it why they would take a player who was our best d when he is here and sit him in norfolk??? We hav no chance without him this weekend.

Henley picks up the game winning goal for Florida last night, basically cementing the fact that the Komets won't catch them. Ironic. I still contend that Henley shouldn't have been the vet to go.

The Komets aren't winning out. They have to own Kalamazoo in their remaining 3 meetings, hope that South Carolina tanks, and outplay Wheeling. It's possible they get in, but not likely.

Make some trades!!!  At least come away from this season with something besides the increase in prices for everything next season......  Start training camp for next season now....

JR1: It doesn't work like that in the minors.  In the Show, "sellers" can trade away good players to contenders for draft choices to stockpile and/or for promising minor-league prospects.  Neither commodity exists in the minor leagues.  There's no draft (except for the occasional expansion or dispersal draft) and veterans or other players who are not already the property of their parent clubs (e.g. Brett Smith) are rarely if ever under contract for beyond the current season.  So trading for some other team's Brett Smith gets you nothing for next season that you couldn't already get without the trade.

Yesterday, I like most of you, dealt with the 10"+ snowfall.  While blowing and shoveling the snow from my own property and the next door neighbors', I kept wondering if I lived in Fort Wayne or somewhere like Flint, Michigan.

Still hopeful that the Komets might pull a miracle, and have the wins and other teams' losses be enough, and in the right order, to allow the komets to sneak into the playoffs, my spirit sagged when I learned of Florida's overtme win at Cincinnati.  Especially with former Komet Brent Henley scoring the winning goal in a game that Cincinnati needed to win to keep hopes alive for the K's.

Today I read that the Komets will not make any changes but will "retool" their lines. I can't imagine how anyone could believe how that move will change things up in a way that adds more wins. No matter what order you add and mix the ingredients, the cake will taste the same.

So this hasn't been a good week.  We learn of 'new" higher prices for next year, a killing win for Florida, and deal with the weather.

It looks and feels like Flint outside, and having to deal with a season just as the fine people of Flint did for so many years, spirits can sag.

Flint... Spirits...?  The original name of the Fort Wayne franchise before being bought and moved to Fort Wayne?

The irony does not escape me.

No Trades ....what a mistake ...i dont think the komets have what it takes to make it to the playoffs with these players ..i think a spark from for a couple new players from trades would of helped ..i dont think the fans are the only ones who have lost hope on this team ...the frankes have too but they cant come out and say it ...Dear Frankes next year bring in a General Manger that knows hockey in and out like Greg Ireland ..

The best place for the next season to get quality ECHL players is from the college and major junior ranks, that is how you build a team for the next season, Then you get some quality veteran players, ie see Mathieu Roy for Fla. they have to be . The last missing ingrediant is what help you get from the AHL. (but as is the case with the Komets this season you loose them if they play well, ie Josh Brittian, Dan Maggio., So it is really hard to get a championship year in year out, But one thing that the Komets have going fo them in the future is that they have the best fan base in the ECHL, good owners who arnt afraid to spend some money, a quality coach. So In my estimation the Komets have a very bright future, and if they can put together a Championship team in the next few years, then you really have something to brag about, SO its IMPORTANTto realize that is the situation not a 6 team league, Who knows maybe a AHL team in in the future for Fort Wayne

I see that Pat Knowlton has been traded to Florida. You may remember that he was in the Komets training camp.

Not sure if he will be on the ice tonight, but it always seems that players come back to haunt the Komets.  We'll see.

Basically the K's need to win them all from here on out.
