Interesting comments....FL is well coached, everyone knows where they are supposed to be, we all have bought into the system, we can take advantage when schrock is on the ice rather than off. Think those comments sum up the K's season pretty good. Also, anyone else think the K's missed Graham and his full time job as assistant and special teams coach?

I dont believe in this team anymore and least Henley is going to be playing in April ...The Komets suck and shouldve made a lot of trades and i think garrett klotz should be in the lineup tonight ..

Dear "WHOLE & ANTHONY" - nice comments (not really)....the K's I am sure are happy with "fans" like you...wow, look into a new sport and take your comments elsewhere.
On a ligther note-received my season ticket letter from Michael F. and it was interesting by it's comments on "we will not have to concern ourselves with NHL labor problems. This season provided several challenges for many minor league hockey teams that we will not have to concern ourselves with next year." - very interesting....seems he could be alluding to the fact that we may go unaffiliated next year, thus possibly retaining the services of both Bouch and Charlie, who would not be with us under the current scenario....only time will tell....

As to Henley, he played a very sound game, looked good, got Schrocky into a penalty and I for one am very happy with him and how he played...cudos to he and his team....they really took it to us last night in every phase of the game.

Dearest "Anthony"- u miss the point completely....I am not blaming the NHL or Norfolk, just saying that with better draft picks from the K's and CONSISTENT goaltending, without the revolving door policy of today, that it would provide us with a more solid goaltending tandem instead of 4 goaltenders. This will come with no affiliations.
Have a great life Anthony and if u truly are a season ticket holder you would still support the K's no matter what and would not utilize the language u do....have a nice life anthony....nuff said. WhoSuz out.

I dunno what you're talking about Anthony, but Boucher's ECHL stats look pretty darn good. And definitely way better than two of our guys this season (not naming any names). His second year in Pee Dee, he played for a sub .500 team and still has way numbers than two of our guys and similar to Kennys numbers. I dunno...but I kinda think we were lucky with having stability in net for the last 5 seasons. Now we are seeing the other side of that spectrum in instability and inconsisteny at that position. JMT

Sorry our comments offended you. You can still be a fan and have an opinion. All we did was to point out that Henley's comments were very interesting. I don't think that you can question any bloggers loyalty and passion about our team. Why else would we all put the time in here to blog about the komets? One of the reasons that the komets are a sucessful franchise is because of passionate fans like us. We are part of the season ticket holder base that shows up every game and cheers on our team. Just because we can think on our own and have an opinion on the coach or players when we are having a challenging season doesn't make us any less of a fan.

That's what the echl is. Thats why affiliates are attached to teams to develop players for the higher up teams. The days of having the same group of players are gone. If they want to contend they need to show the ahl teams that they can develop good players. This year they did not show that. Maybe next year they will start with a fresh "system".

after watching Charlie in the playoffs last year, I have no doubt he could have been a captable ECHL No. 1 goalie had he been given regular starts where he could have gotten into a rhythm. That guy was a bear to get by, better than any goaltender we saw in the UHL, IHL or CHL. That opportunity just never presented itself this year because of circumstances beyond his or anybody else's control with the affiliates, etc. Remember, no one knew Norfolk was going to send Marco here with the lockout. It wasn't ever discussed over the summer. That's not a criticsm of anyone, either, just the reality of the situation at that time.
I personally would love to see Nick and Charlie work together for a year because I think they would help/push each other and be a remarkable combination. I am still amazed at how great Charlie's outlook is even now. He's a pro's pro and is a fantastic guy to have on a team. As a friend of mine said, if I had a business, I'd hire Charlie in a heartbeat simply because of his attitude. Imagine how this could have been an even bigger disastor if one of the goalies had been a jerk about it the way some of the forwards were. It's really remarkable.
I also think, and I have zero inside information on this, I think this is just the way it's going to be for the Komets in the ECHL. The whole league is set up to help and encourage affiliations. That's just the deal, which means your No. 1 priority will always be developing players and not winning.

Alaska has a huge advantage in that there are tons of hockey players around and nowhere for them to go other than a real job. It would be like having a minor league independent team in Boston.

Blake, while I agree on your acount of how Charlie hasn't played a lot this year due to several factors, I disagree about a few points. While he was great last year in the first 4 games of the series, he wasn't able to hold up that play for the whole series. Consistency is key for a goalie. We had it in Boucher, and Reiter this season, but not the other two. It takes 4 wins to take a series and by the end he was tired and you could see that. He def. gave Miz a chance though. As for this year, all three goalies got their chances to take the ball and run with it. There is no disputing that. They all got their starts early on. Charlie, like Marco, had chances to be the guy. Granted, Marco got hurt. But the thing is, Kenny was STEALING games and overall playing better than the other two. Kenny won his playing time and unfortunately with two other "backups" they were forced to split the remaining games that Reiter didn't start (a tough way to get into a groove no doubt). I think Kenny's constistency was what got him the lions share, and by that same token, the lack of consistency in Charlie and Marco's play worked against them. Now, in the games Charlie he did play, overall he was average. I mean, look at his numbers. Sure our D isn't great. But you can't blame everyone else. He has to take some of the heat for his performance/play/numbers too. Sure he had some good games, and a few stinkers. But I think his play on average was as mediocre as the teams performance has been all season. I'm not blaming the goaltending (that's the least of our problems this season), but Kenny was able to do the job better, while being behind the same team as the other two guys (Marco and Charlie). The bottom line is in sports, as in life, you have to be ready when you get a chance. You have to seize the opportunity when it presents itself. It's sink or swim. You can't sink and then say "well I couldn't play well because this and that", even if there is merit to those reasonings. It's not how life, or hockey works unfortunately. I can't see them bringing Effinger back. Have circumstances been ideal for Charlie? Not at all. Has he been a great teammate and consumate pro? Absolutely. Has his play been what they expected of him as Boucher's replacement? I would say not so much...he like 90% of the players this season, have not lived up to expectations. JMO

Go back and look at how many shots he was facing in that series and where the shots were coming from. It was 45-50 every night. (285 shots in seven games, .919 save pct; Boucher 213 shots, .903) I don't fault him in that series at all. The Komets came back and WON that series, Missouri didn't lose it. They basically crashed the net until the puck had no chance to do anything but go in. They wore the Mavericks' defense out and cashed on rebounds. That hasn't happened this year.
I'm also not disputing or saying I would have done anything different from what the Komets did, either. Reiter earned the spot, no doubt. Part of being the coach, however, is making sure your back-ups are ready to go when they are called upon. That's ridiculously hard to do with three goalies when both affiliates are demanding their guy play.
It was screwed up from the start, but I still believe Charlie is a capable ECHL goalie. Will he ever get that chance to show? I doubt it. I imagine the same thing would have happened this year to Nick if he had been healthy.

I don't think having played in the league is relevant. What's your basis for believing Charlie is a better goalie?Just wondering...thats all. Considering we've had 5 seasons of overall great goaltending from Boucher and one season of limited (and underwheling) play from Charlie plus a few playoff games last season, the sample size is just too small to really make any kind of substantive determination. Boucher has won everything you can at the AA level. Charlie hasn't. I think any comparisons is completely subjective and with out any real side to side data it's all a matter of pure opinion. I know who I'd take in a do or die playoff game situation...

I'm just saying Charlie had an awful lot to deal with this year that was out of his control, and that's all I'm saying. I still believe he can be an excellent goalie.
I think the performance Nick put forth last year playing on two hips that needed surgery, taking a shot in the knee before Game 7 to play, etc., was legendary, one of the most amazing performances I've seen by a Komets goaltender under the circumstances.

Mr. Sherman i feel Nick Boucher is a good netminder but you also forget the leagues are different its not the 6 team IHL or the CHL and Charlie is a amazing netminder ..Nick didnt win nothing the whole team did and i think the first cup we won that Nick was a backup to Kevin Reiter and third one he was injuried so Tim Haun carried the work load ....Andy playing in this league has everything to do with it you see him a different point ..thats the difference between people who have played and ones who sit in the stands thinking they know the game at this level ..

Sorry Blaine but if you are gonna debate things at least have your facts straight. First, check out Charlie's and Nick's elite prospect pages. Pretty easy to see who is the more accomplished of the two. Hands down it's Nick. His career ECHL numbers are far better than Charlie's, his collegiate numbers are far better than Charlie's and did you miss the fact the Charlie was in the CHL too last year, and the for two other seasons? I didn't see Charlie winning any championships... You are so passionately defending Charlie as "an amazing goalie" (who has never played a single game in the AHL) yet say Nick is "a good netminder". I'm only using factual evidence and concrete numbers, of which you have offered none. And again, if you are going to debate with us please know your facts. The first time we won, Boucher and Reiter shared the first round, and Nick was in the pipes in the finals for 5 of the 7 games, including all the must wins coming behind from 3-1. The second Cup he played every minute, including coming from behind 3-1 to win a series again. The third Cup he again played all the games when the team was trailing to PT Huron and then all but one of the finals games-Haun backed up. And last season he played basically all the playoff games, including the Mizz series when down 2-0. So he has been the goalie of record for all the recents championship teams...no one single player wins a series, no doubt. And going off about having played the game and knowing it, and how people in the stands don't know anything; you're making yourself look smug and pompous. How do you know I haven't played the game at a competitve level? You're making assumptions based on anything but fact. Find me some factual evidence to supoort what you're saying and you might make a valid argument. Otherwise you're just coming across as defending your buddy (which it appears Charlie is) because anyone who has watched Charlie this season would proabably agree he has looked anything but "amazing"
