Are you optimistic, pessimistic about tonight? Just looking forward to spring?
What record do you think the Komets will have to have to make the playoffs in these final 12 games? What percentages do you put on them making it?
Hey, at least the sun is out today. Can't beat that.

I think they need to go 9-2-1 to get in. Anything less than that and I think it's over. But as a .500 hockey team I don't see this happening. We simply don't score enough and how long can Deslauriers carry this team? He's gonna have a let down or two, and normally you'd hope your team would score a few goals for him on that night, but we all know we cannot count on that happening with any kind of consistency. I give us a %5 chance on getting in.
I think if we win both games against Florida, we will have some momentum and carry that forward to a playoff berth.
I think that one reason to be optimistic is that Florida was faily active as far as moving and acquiring players over the past few weeks. They have some new guys that aren't familiar with their "systems" and haven't played with each other very much. We didn't make any moves so our guys know each other and Al has had plenty of time to fine tune our "systems" within our current roster. I would expect us to dictate the pace of the game and look more organized and physical, especially on our own home ice. If we let Florida come out and push us around, we stand no chance.
Another reason to be optimistic is that we have had all week to rest and work on our special teams, while Florida played Wednesday and has done a lot of travel lately. Without good special teams, we have no chance of making the playoffs in my opinion. Al has had plenty of time to practice with the team this week on our own ice. We should see an improvement on our special teams this weekend.
Go K's!
Real question is.....whose Henley gonna fight?
I could see him taking a run at Colin just to see who shows up. The point is Henley will want to make a statement coming back to Fort Wayne. I don't think anyone can question Brent's ability. He just didn't seem to want to bring it when he was a Komet.
Brent is a big tough guy, Syro is probably the only player that matches the size part, can someone get him fired up and mad enough to fill the tough part?
I hate to say this but I think tonight is the season. This is the game where you win and you start to believe. Another 4 pointer that is a must win. I would love to be there tonight, if the Komets have anything to say they better shout tonight.
Shrock likes to bite off more than he can chew sometimes........
Mike with your comment it would seem Brent may have something against Colin? Just reading into your comment there.
I was not implying that sgriffith. Although Colin has been hurt and maybe not at 100% it is these types of situations that he plays his best. Henley knows all of that. Brent knows that probably no one will take up a challenge and I pray that Kaleigh doesn't do anything (did you see the knockout in Toronto).
Colin is in no shape to be doing it, but believe me he would.
Henley will try to be the bully tonight. Run around and play tough, which I didn't see him do the games I watched this year in Fort Wayne.
He will be dangerous.
But to your point sgriffith, Colin is the AC so, maybe there could be some hard feelings. I am playing myself but will be home for the second and third.
I can just get WOWO on a bounce, so I will be listening in the car also.
i think if we lose tonight then its over. if they cant get fired up enuff to rock the jungle the next two games then they aint gonna get it done. they have the talent to do it but the question is do they h ave the heart this year? tonight will tell. and if we dont do it im not gonna go nuts and call for sims head or demand new owners or say we need to be in a new league. it is what it is. a bump in the road for a very strong franchise. good luck guys! tonights the night to put it all out there! will you do it??
Well Heagerty is on Reserve one of our better DMen so now we are really hurting on the back end. And Mike hopefully my question was not trying to put words in your mouth. The Henley situation really has me questioning what went wrong this year. And then we trade him to Florida for just cash and not try to get something of value for him. Just doesn't make much sense similar to how they disposed of Thorne without getting anything in return. For all we know Henley could have been traded for a dollar. Should be an interesting two games and Henley may provide a reliable source for Florida as it pertains to our system. Agree with everyone if they don't get two wins not OT wins they don't have a chance
"I would expect us to dictate the pace of the game and look more organized and physical, especially on our own home ice."
Yeah...because that's EXACTLY how we're played at home...ALL YEAR. Play "Welcome to the Jungle" again...
SGriffith, I didn't take it that way at all. It was a valid question. I guess we were all fooled by the start of the game and lack of at least one good tilt. The Komets aren't the team to do that this year.
First, I am sad to see the way things went. Contrary to what some of the folks think I believe the team tried hard, they just were overmatched by bigger players. That Marino as a smaller player can put up the numbers he has speaks to that determination. And he knows where the corners are. I have a great deal of respect for him, being a short guy myself.
It will be difficult to come back with a championship team next year like they did in the CHL. The rules and dynamics of the Affiliations make that a tall task.
And I don't think the talent level of this league is all that different from the CHL. The style is a different. A little more up tempo but not lightening speed. Probably a big reason many of these players are still at this level is skating ability.
I read in one of the earlier posts about recruiting for this league next year. It was mentioned to look for some good NCAA players and Juniors for the rookies. I agree with that. However, there are a few key things in my mind to look for.
With the four fundamentals being skating, passing, stickhandling and shooting. That's my order of priority. I would look for some "size" guys that can skate and pass above all else. If they have the other "tools" they will be playing at a higher level. You can work on stickhandling and shooting. You can't help them get bigger and you can't teach them how to skate at this late date.
Keep the faith in Komet land you have a great hockey town and the people running your team have proven to be quick learners.
