Even though he didn't do as well as everyone had hoped, that could be said for the whole team, I have an immense amount of respect for #24. He is not only a great family man, but also appreciative of fans and takes time to greet them like he should and not as a chore. He reminds me of a Guy Dupuis type player that, if given the opportunity, could become the face of the Komets in the community. I know I'll catch flack for this, but I wouldn't mind having Butler back next year. A season like this is rarely indicative of a players talent and I think Butler has a great deal of talent.

As fans we take it very personally when we think a player is putting out less than 100%, or doesn't deliver like we want him to. This is a useful reminder of the incredible dedication and commitment it takes from all these players and their families to play a professional minor league sport, in cities, states and even countries far from home, for wages and job-security most of us would scoff at. They work on a very public stage, sick or injured, raise families and cope with life like all of us, and they all should get some respect for that.

And they volunteer to do it..... No one forces them to play hockey for money...

Well said Anne. You're right that many of us would scoff at what they make playing, and considering it's only at a max 8 months a calendar year. They do it for the love of the game. Nice piece Blake. Nice comment JR too...

I think the point of the first post is that sometimes fans are very rude and think these guys are making big money like major professonal sports. They don't, they barely make a living and they play for the love of the sport which is something that few fans understand. Most of the people on here have never played hockey or been around hockey or the players and they have no idea. If you could only hear what Sims thinks of the fellow bloggers. Most of the words I certainly can't type here.

I know Sims personally and have never heard him once put down the commenters. I thought the bloggers were Blake and Justin. Anyway, why would you try to stir up drama and reactions with that comment about Sims? He does his best to tune them out and knows he is the one that has to take the heat when things are crappy. It was a great article about the Butler family and they all look like they are happy and healthy.

I've worked some pretty crappy jobs, jobs I did not love, took a lot of crap from customers and never once had my uniforms, housing, utilities, etc... paid for by that company... These players aren't as destitute as some of you make them out to be....

But JR you didn't have thousands of people booing you and have jerk bloggers going off on you. And to the previous poster I know Al too and I heard him say those exact words about the posters on these sites. So give these guys a break. 5 championships in six years isn't enough for you? What other modern minor league hockey franchise has more championships in multiple leagues.

You can make all the excuses in the world that you want for these guys... We all encounter hardships in our work place and these guys are no more special than the rest of us... I do not get paid to play a game, If I did, I would know that dealing with the good and bad from fans is part of my job.
Besides, we have been told for years that the players and management do not read the blogs, so they would have no bad opinion of bloggers since they have no idea of what being said.... :)

Hmmm. .....always thought blogs were to be informational and produce content that was subject pertinent, not so with some commentary....interesting to see some have such overall knowledge on everything....seems I have not been critiqued by the owner of this blog....must be ok then
Lets hope next season is more productive and as always lets go K's.

I had the priviledge to meet both Tyler and his wife while they went out of their way to make someone's day. You couldn't ask for better people, and a better representative for the Komets in Tyler. I hope he is back. It's not all about the scoreboard with some players, especially defensemen. It can be about their ability to carry them team mentally as well. It was a great article, and truly made my day to see a story about good people in the world.

Good to see a nice article about one of my favorite players and his life off the ice, he seems to have a level head and does a great job with the fans. Its nice to hear about a sturdy family these days, I hope him and his family the best and would love to see him on the ice with the Komets next year.
