Komets have made an offer

So do the Frankes go against 90% of what they have stated to be looking for in a new coach and hire Graham?

If so, what would Graham's sales pitch be during recruiting?  We all know that a good majority of young players in the ECHL still have the dream of moving up, so things like crowds, tradition, etc... are not going to attract them as much as what can this franchise and coach do to help me get to the next level?  The Frankes cold shoulder towards affiliated players wont help either...

I'm thinking this better be a home run of a hire or the Komets could be set back for years to come...

Who knows though....fun to speculate...

Schrock is not returning.... This according to Icy D. Eagle's Facebook page. Have we really reached the point that player announcments are being made by the mascot? Really? 

 

"Official Icy D. Eagle Fan Page 3 hours ago I received word late yesterday afternoon that another integral part of the Komet family will not be returning this season. Prepare to be schrocked...UH...I mean SHOCKED."

Obviously you can't have a coach who no great playing expeience because that never works. I mean just look at the Pacers and Heat or New England Patriots or Baltimore Ravens. What have those teams ever accomplished?

You can add Vince Lombardi to that list. And how good of a coach did Wayne Gretzgy turn out to be???

How long had those guys been coaching or assisting in the league they eventually became a head coach in???

This is the ECHL, not the NFL or the NHL.

Start somewhere..... like the FHL, SPHL, CHL. 

I don't know if the Komets are going to sign Gary Graham (if they were, why wait until next week?), but he is going to be an amazingly good coach somewhere. Some people you can just tell they are going to be great leaders like Torchetti, Boudreau, Chaulk, and Gary has that quality. If he doesn't get the job here, he'll get one somewhere else in the ECHL or higher very, very soon. He's going to be that good.

BTW, Dave Allison already has a contract for next year. He was one of the first people I asked about. Kevin McClelland has absolutely no shot. Neither does Scott Muscutt. I think the others they are talking to are way outside the box and are likely long-time AHL assistants that we've never heard of.

Also think it has a lot less to do with the coach and more to do with AHL affiliates than anything. Reading finished last last year and won the cup this year. Affiliates loaded them up at the end.  Same thing last year.

I think we're going to see an almost entirely new team next year.

 

Good! We need a new team! And Graham would be a good choice. When Pensacola lost about 10 players when the NHL came back, Graham had the connections to recruit top quality players to finish third, and ultimately win the Championship.

Blake, with whom is Allison under contract with? I've been kind of confused as to how that would work with his job becoming non-existant. Does he have a contract with the Blues to scout or something? 

It has not been officially announced yet but Dave has a contract.

Kurt Kleinendorst...Someone brought up this name on a forum I post on and not that this is the coach the Komets have made an offer to but IMO he'd be a good hire. He has won a Calder cup with Binghamton in the AHL and just resigned from his coaching job with Alabamap-Huntsville.

Again this does mean  this is the coach the K's have made an offer to. Just something to think about other then the only known coach to have interviewed with the K's

No one is saying that Graham isnt or will not be a good coach, I just do not think he is the right head coach for the Komets right now.... 

 

Im wondering if there is a dollar amount that teams can pay a coach, I understand that teams are restricted to how much the can pay players but does that apply to head coaches and associate coaches?

Good question, but the answer is there are no limits because that is not a negotiated collective bargaining agreement with the players. There is no such thing for coaches.

So is  player is a associate coach also the team can pay him what ever they want to get him to play not just the salary he would make as a player under the collective bargining agreementl who was the associate coach last year?

I believe so, but he would still count under the veteran status.

Chaulk was the assistant, but he still counted under the salary cap last year as per the CBA because he was also a player.  I'm not positive, but I think that changed under the CBA this year. It's also irrelevant because the Komets have said they are willing to tire a full-time assistant -- provided the head coach wants one.

So we could sign a player like DJ for a 100,000 and make him  the assistant coach snf  his salary as assistant coach would jnot  count against  the teams salary cap. correct me if im wrong, Its very important that some players know what their options are........

Doesn't work that way if he's a player in any fashion. As soon as he's activated, it counts against the cap. Believe me, the ECHL and owners, etc, have thought of every trick around the cap.

Is it correct that when a player gets sent down to us, that the affiliate that sent them pays that players salary? and that his salary counts against their cap and not ours?

He counts against the FW cap, and I believe it's for $500 or maybe $550. It's one of the two. Obvously they are getting paid more than that, and I believe the parent club picks up the difference.

so what do you think a league best goalie or defenseman makes in the ECHL What I hearing is that the money they paid CHaulk as a associate coach counted against they cap as well as what they paid him as a player. Can you be a accociate coach and player or only one or the other?

I know of one player who made $1,500 a week. That is correct about Chaulk. Yes, you can be only one or the other. Most ECHL teams have assistant coaches who are not players.

If you are a member of the PHPA http://www.phpa.com/en/content/home/index/ you can get on the web site and see every players pay any time you want. So as a player or team you always know what each player  is making, well at least what is counted against the cap. Let's not forget all the other pay and benefits, like free or half off good and services from team sponsors, free apartments / mortgage payments, appearance fees, cars sometimes, and the never spoken of under the table cash payments that happen just to name a few.

And the guy making the big bucks didnt come close to earning it.....on the ice....

C'mon JR.... He scored 10 goals. You really think $4,000 a goal is overpayment?
