Retiring from the Komets hockey club; but not from coaching.....
Congrats to Al Sims on a great Komets coaching career and I wish him the best in his next coaching job.

Best of luck to Al in the future! I don't think he is done yet though.

Don't think there's going to be one. I went to lunch with him on Saturday and he was as relaxed as I've ever seen anyone. As he said today, ``All the stress is gone.'' He's very comfortable with this decision.

He also re-iterated that he and Sue plan on retiring in Fort Wayne.

I wish Al and his family the best. He had a huge amount of succes with the Ks. I just don't think this league is for him and his heart was not in it last year. I am sure if Chalk will take it he will be the Ass Coach.

Maybe all that time the Komets spent "evaluating" the situation helped Al see things clearly.
I'm sure Chaulk will be part of the Komets organization in some capacity next season, right Blake?

How the end of Sim's run with the Komets came about came about doesn't mean anything. The point is he is gone. Sadly, but happens so many times, a coach retires after loosing season versus a championship year. This may be in part a loosing season takes a much larger toll emotionally and physically on a coach.
The thing is all future coaches will be measured against what Sims accomished. I'm not sure that it will be accomplished or fair.
Al, you more then earned your right to walk away, head held high, and enjoy you new path in life.

Thank you to Al for all he has done and good luck in whatever you choose to do in the future. Lest we forget-Al Sims coming to the Komets in the first place was probably the only good thing to come out of the Welker years!(unless of course you count A2D2,peanut butter marshmallows and non alcoholic champagne>)
