Coliseum parking is going up

That's just great!  I sure wish the Coliseum could work out some kind of deal for a parking pass for season ticket holders.  Not only do we have to pay ever-increasing prices for our season tickets, now we have to pay more for parking.  No wonder attendance has dropped.  Can't get a break on anything these days!

When I went to Orlando last season to watch the Komets play the Solar Bears I paid $22 to park. People in Fort Wayne don't know how good they have it.

It's funny to hear people compare big city costs to small city costs.

Sorry if I ruffled some feathers!  I used to live in South Florida and had to pay $20 ten years ago to park for Panthers games, so I totally understand where you're coming from.  I'm not saying we don't have it better here than some places, but I remember the days when it only cost 50 cents and the parking attendants would let me park for free.  Ah yes, the good ole days!

I guess if you can afford to go to Florida for a hockey game money is not to important. I think the coliseum raaise aand the Komet raise is unjustified.I have been going to Komet games for over 50 years and the breaking point is here.My wife will be driving me to most games so I guarantee the coleseum will get less from me.Hopefully the people will stay away from these fancy concession stands.Bring your own in.

Kalamazoo is located geographically in Western and Southern Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 74,262. It is the major city of the Kalamazoo-Portage metropolitan area, which has a population of 326,589 as of 2010.  Fort Wayne is a city in the U.S. state of Indiana and the county seat of Allen County.[5] The population was 255,824 as of the July 1, 2011 Census. Fort Wayne is the principal city of the Fort Wayne metropolitan area, consisting of Allen, Wells, and Whitley counties, for an estimated population of 419,453.

Parking at K-Wings games - $5

Parking now at the ACWMC - $5

We have a larger metropolitan population than Kalamazoo and our parking will now be the same (barring any increases for them).  The "Big Market vs. Small Market" doesn't always lend itself as the best proof of why something costs more in one place than some where else. However, I do acknowledge that to be a good arguing point at times.  Moving forward though everyone must choose to attend or not attend a function due to the rising cost of parking and admission.  The real question currentlly being overlooked at this time happens to be, "Wasn't the parking fee supposed to be removed once the County resurfaced the parking lot ages ago?"

Its a nice walk from the Scotts parking lot and the parking is free.

Sure, one could park across Parnell Avenue for free; but is it really free when your car has been towed away?

It is my understanding that most of the businesses by Scotts and H.H. Gregg will do exactly that.

How about Randy Brown forgoing some of his $200,000 a year salary so they can keep the fees down to a resonable level. That makes to much sense though.

There are a few places around the Coliseum where you can still park for free, and enjoy a nice little walk. I used to do it occasionally, but now I will be doing it every game.  I can't handle all of these price increases. I took a 6% pay cut at my job this year, and my health benefits went up. And I agree you can't compare a big city to a smaller city.  Kalamazoo is a smaller venue, and that is a different situation as far who owns the building and gets concession revenue if I understand it correctly, plus they just recently started to charge for parking.Plus they don't get the draw that we get, I mean it is an expensive league to be in, with a lot of travel, so that $5 bucks could be helping the team travel, or with payroll, as I thought that whomever owned the team also owned the stadium.  I could be wrong on that one though, but I thought that was what I heard as to one reason why they started to charge to offset the higher costs of the league. Someone will correct me if I am wrong, I am sure, LOL.  Every time I take my dad to the game he always says, "$4 bucks, that is crazy since they always said that the parking fee would go away after they paved the lot!" I really don't think Scott's would tow you. I go in there before a game and by a small snack that I can sneak in, so I do support their store for letting me park there, lol. Plus I don't park in a prime spot by the store.  I know when I went to Rapid City two years ago, I did not pay at all to park.    Just stinks, but what can you do, but grin and bear it, or find a new spot to park and walk, or just stay home!

we are actually getting off pretty easy with five dollar parking. parking at other venues in other cities are much higher than that. originally parking was to be free  after the paving of the lot was done but thats pretty funny because i think that was the statement back in the 1950's and its just always repeated by those who cant stand any increases. the coliseum is a business and so far randy brown has been able to turn a profit there and tax moneys are spent very wisely and lowly, .  as the health care costs start rising in the near future businesses must find a way to take on the added cost.  they either charge their cusomers more or they lay off workers. i dont mind the extra dollar if it helps people keep jobs cause if they are unemployed it probably costs me more for their food stamps and utility payments.

Wow, $5 is reasonable...used to live in Chicago and Hawks games were $30 to park....you had to know this was coming

I have discussed this Randy B. several times and their contract prohibits them from dealing with sub-contractors like the Komets and giving them special deals....so it goes

Get used to it....most likely will be going up more in the near future to cover the renovation of the food courts and the bathrooms

Can't compare Fort Wayne to Chicago. If I lived in Chicago I wouldn't be able to affor a ticket to the game parking would be a total non issue. As far as paying for the concession stand let the people that can afford those prices pay.I have never bought myself anything in 52 years.

Really?......its 5 dollars people......

I hope no one that slaps down big bucks at the season ending party for a jersey are complaining about this $1 increase.....

When I went to a Blackhawks game at the old Chicago Stadium in 1991, we parked about 4-5 blocks from the arena and that parking lot charged $20.

The upper arena (obstructed view) tickets we had were $25.

SOrry JR1, but comparing the price increase for parking and buying a jersey at the party are two different things. I understand you are trying to say if you have money for one thing you should have money for anything else, but some people scrimp and save every peeny to be able to buy a jersey at the end of the year.

Plus there is a big difference between buying a jersey for a good cause and Randy Brown padding his pockets!

That being said, I will still pay to park at every game this season and will also buy a jersey sometime, sorry if you don't approve of the way  spend my money...

Is the blue base board around the ice part of the "dasher board"?  If so, will it finally be yellow like most everyone elses?  I find the puck to be more visable with the yellow base board unlike the blue that it is now.

Hoss, please point out where I said I do not approve of how you or anyone else spends their money....  Cut to the chase, you cannot...period.  Get over yourself.  I was pointing out the hypocrisy of some peoples posts...

If someone cannot afford $36 over the course of the entire season, then maybe, just maybe those people should re-evaluate where their money should really be going, or make changes.  When money was tight for me, I would take advantage of the newspapers offer and get in for $5/6, eat a sandwich before I went to the game, and enjoy the game in what is not very bad seats.  There are ways to still attend Komets games and make it affordable...

Also, Randy Brown isnt the only guy making these decisions, there is a board who votes on these things.  The Coliseum does fairly well and keeps itself viable in a tough entertainment market.  I dont have much to complain about when it comes to the coliseum because it could be much worse.  K-zoo went from free parking to $5 parking....

Cost of business has done nothing; but increase under the current administration regardless of what side you tend to lean and those costs get transfered to the paying customer who can either decide to continue using that companies services or not...  The company I work for is experiencing the same things.  Medical costs are going to rise for those of use who decide to work and pay their own way  so that we can pay yet even more for those who want to ride on the coat tails of society.  You are going to see increases in pricing across the board to pay for this new government medical coverage, so you might as well get used to it....
