Are we going to see anything from the Frankes explaining why they went with a rookie HC in the ECHL over much more qualified and experienced coaches for the job?

There are a lot of fans scratching their heads over this...  A lot of fans who put up good money in advance trusting the Frankes only to see them "buck" their own trend...

Last season sucked, plain and simple.  What about Graham should make Komets fans happy with this hire (besides, the "tireless worker" stuff we are getting in articles).  No proven track record of recruiting in the ECHL for either Graham or D. Franke...  How is this supposed to get better?

Also hearing we will see 3 veterans from a losing team planned on being signed for next season...  This does not give most fans a warm and fuzzy feeling...

An opinion or perhaps just the mission of the ECHL, the ECHL is a developmental league from top to bottom. If they wanted an experienced coach, so be it. They've chosen to develop at the coaching level at this time. Fresh, whether they hired former Rangers coach Tortorella, or Tony the Tomato, shows again we are the Fans. My opinion agrees Graham deserves this shot. Most championship coaches at the E level began their success at the E level. Graham doesn't have credit in the E, but how do you get there. He's starting in Ft. Wayne where he worked for free, in 2008. His chance is now and sacrificed a long time ago for this chance.

Blake, is there a fine for announcing via FW media before the ECHL does on their website? ECHL twitter didn't announce until 3 hrs and 15 min after the news conference. I know the league knows bc they approve the contract, but I ask bc I don't know, or too lazy to read the rule book.

As stated in the other article, congrats Gary Graham and best of luck...if you do not like what you see, just do not go to the games....it is just that simple, do not pay the money

Graham deserves a chance and should be very good based on the talent he surrounds himself with....it is not all about the coach....and lord knows our prior coach was very set in his ways...I am looking forward to this year and relish some of the vets I love being back to provide help to the newer players and leadership

P. S. - please no Chaulk as assistant coach

Depends on what is being announced. I would say likely not for this type of announcement, but the ECHL always wants the AHL to announce first something that might affect an ECHL player.

As an example, I went to a practice this year, noticed the player was not present, but no one would comment for fear of being fined by the league. The player had been called up and the Komets were not allowed to comment or announce it until the AHL team did. Total BS considering this was a gameday in Fort Wayne. I hate crap like that.

Something to note on the hire, this is the second hire that the Frankes have made where the HC has had a previous working relationship with them as the onwers. Al was the first and now Gary. What is telling is that they prefer to hire someone they know rather than hiring a "name" that they have not had a previous professioal relationship with. Nobody can question the path Gary has taken to get here and the fact that he has a great work ethic. He steps into a position where there is a lot at his disposal to have success. The question I have will they have a AHL parent club or are they going to go independent? Congrats to Gary he has earned this job

Point(s) well made Sgriffith. The Frankes gut instinct has served them well. Also, Gary has drive. Players respond to that. His devotion to the game will not go unnoticed by his players

One thing that has not been mentioned in a positive light is Dave Frankes success. Since 1990, I dont think there is any team  in professional hockey that has had as many trips to the finals in their respective leagues as the Komets. That success comes from the GM. I know many of you will find that statement hard to swallow but the results are there.  I think they could make a formidible tandem. Im sure by about the middle of December we will know.

Lets let this new energy from Gary make for a great season to come.
