Hate to agree with JR1 but it was an awful game to watch....left when they scored their 3rd goal.....really, really sad indeed.....something needs to change.

1) retooled Komets would have been great without mutiny of two amateurs;
2) further retooling is going to take some time;
3) goaltending inconsistency = Komets' inconsistency; and
4) the guys that are playing right now are Real Komets and deserve our support.

Not sure we have seen the end of their retooling yet.

Speaking of retooling, where is the new guy Rutheford or something like that....thought he was supposed to play on Sunday?

Everything I am hearing is that it's an absolute mess right now from top to bottom...

Look for more players wanting out...

Many problems...

Hire a consultant with developmental hockey ties...

Replace the coach with who you said you were looking for last summer. A guy with experience...

Reading some posts here and many on the OTHER blog I'm glad most are not running a compnay or manage other people. Like real cancer, the day it is removed the patient is not back to 100% and that applies to teams.

With the cancer going on within the Komet locker room the coach should get some credit that the team is even close to .500%. It only takes one or two players to screw up a locker room. It makes it such that players don't want to hang around. They show up when told to be there and leave the second they can. That is the formula for a loosing team, regardless of talent!

Some have made comments about the selection of the most recent captain that he was not a scorer. The Komets have been blessed over the years with great captains that never finished in the top five scores on the team. Good captains come from first, demanding the most of themself, period. The captain understand the strengths of every team member and pushes them to that level. He is also the cheerleader that dolls out platitudes to those who do something above the norm. He is also the hell raiser when someone is not playing to their level and letting the team down. He also must be honest with every player and the coach. Addionally, he has to keep what a player says in confidence, in confidence. If the players don't trust, know what he talking about, or doesn't hold everyone equally accountable then he is no captain!

This team will take some time to heal and how long no one knows but in just three games wouldn't and didn't. The real fans will continue to cheer at the good plays, big hits, and goals. While booing is the only outlet fans have when things go bad, to set quiet helps the players rebound. Heck, if the fans see a screwup the players and coach saw it as well. As the saying goes, piling on doesn't do anyone any good, but may help the, opponent.

I find it interesting how stupid our GM has become, according to some. He is the same guy that was there for championship and playoff victories. He was babtised into the old IHL and did pretty good. Was he wrong for hiring Coach Graham is one that many disagree with and I have my own opinion but it doesn't make a difference as Graham is here and we move on. If the ownership does decide to make a coaching change doesn't mean we will win 2 out of 3 games the rest of the year. We could end up far worse but only time will tell.

I am a season ticket holder for over 3 decades and know this is a family business. I think it is time big brother Steve take little brother Dave in the back room and give him a new job. Then go out and hire a real GM. I agree some of the problems are the coaches fault, but remember he wasn't here last year and we had problems in the locker room.

Thanks Dr. Old for the simile to cancer and the discussion on how our cure is going to take place over time....as I stated before...more retooling to come....more changes most likely need to be made....our reputation as a team and hockey city for one

Seems Mr. Rutheford is balking at coming here....wonder how that will fly in trying to get others to come here?  Certainly there needs to be consistency, attitude adjustments and a different morale portrayed before we can move on and get others to move on with us.

Keep up the good work Dr.?

A comment to General Manager David Franke and President Micheal Franke:

Please sirs, give this plea, this suggestion, some consideration.

I am a season ticket holder (4 tickets) and have spoken to you both at times in your office and at the Coliseum.  I have always found you very nice,  polite, intelligent, reasonable, passionate people (owners, yet fans too).  I have spoken many times to Bill, also.  I have been a komet fan for over 50 years (attended my first game in 1961).

I have to tell you that I have never, ever seen anything like what we are seeing now.  Sometimes, even when we give our best efforts, things just don't work out.  Sometimes it isn't any one persons' fault, but the unexpected happens.  Sometimes well meaning plans fail.  It is happening now and I fear this is totally out of control.

As distasteful as it may seem to you, and no matter if you think it right or wrong, a coaching change is needed. More than that, it's imperative.   The franchise is at stake and as owners you must do what is right for the franchise.  The mere fact that players are clamoring to leave this team more than suggest the coach has "lost" the team, (more likely never had it in the first place).  Now, players traded for, hesitate to show up.  Players and agents talk and with the amount of this year's Komets sprinkled all over the ECHL, whatever the reason they perceive is now and has been turned into reality.

I know that Coach Graham has a contract.  You will have to honor the contract by paying him.  I would suggest to you that in terms of money, you will make up for it by increased attendance both, this year, and in the future ( as plenty of people are threatening not to renew).

The new coaching hire will have to be a "home run".

Next, I would have a team meeting. Not a "my way or the highway" meeting, but a rational, calm give and take.  Somehow the "bleeding" needs to be stopped.  Fort Wayne has to become a place where players want to come, not escape.

This, you may find distasteful, as I said before.  But, it is a business, and you guys didn't go to all that effort to save hockey in Fort Wayne to let it end this way.

There is an end to this journey.  The first step is to fire the coach.  The season isn't dead yet, but everyday without changing is another day of frustration to the players, the fans, and ultimately to your family.  Attendance is dwindling, losses are the norm, and defections by players ( and I suppose by fans, too) are far to common.

The journey can have another end, also.  It isn't a good one and I think that all Komet fans, and yourselves, don't want to go down that path.

Nothing is "easy".  Tough decisions are needed now.  With them, I think players will relax, be more willing to be obtained, and your fans will be heard.

Somewhere the healing has to start.  Somewhere the infection has to end.  Please do the things that will right the ship.

Please.

GREAT POST

I can't believe I'm posting again but for some reason I do. Every player that signed on at the start of the season knew exactly who was coaching and his background. It is like basketball players that signed with IU, when Bobby Knight was there, and then wanted to transfer because they didn't like the way he coached. Come on, as some have said hockey players talk!

I'm also trying to figure out what a turn around in the season means to each of you? Making the playoffs? A division championship? Just winning at home? Four or five fights a game with who wins the game is no big deal? Having an affiliation that the players sent here get the most ice time and the free agent we signed becomes a third line center even though he can just as well be a first line center?

With regards to the two players that QUIT the TEAM not many of you have spoken highly of either one. One played only half the ice and the other never performed to the level expected. Sure the team lost the league's top goal producer but he was the poorest +/- among the leagues top scorer.

How many games has this team lost the game after leading after the second period? If the coach's game plan worked for two periods then only one of two things happened. First, the other team changed their game style and the coach didn't make adjustments. The second, the players dressed just have enough pride in themselves or their fellow teammates.

Give the coach and players a small break that with the departure of the two players the guys are now dealing with mostly new combinations. Normally the lines have been settled in by now over that of being like the second or third week of the season.

If the coach made a major blunder was in calling players out in the media. Many coaches go their entire careers and never call individual players out. Some have and for the most part the player was done with that team. Other coaches have called out players and lost their jobs then or at the end of the season, as the players quit playing!

Last thoughts I have on this are: they will not get rid of Graham...to much pride on the line.....GM will not step down or bring in a new or assistant coach..the season will progress with minor retooling...as stated before.

Reichard is most likely goalier leaving, since it has been rumored he wants a trade.  Would be nice if we could ever get Muse....or original draft pick back....but not in the cards.

Folks,

As a fellow STH I am appalled by the excessive negativity.

If things are that bad, give your season tickets to charity and find another source of entertainment.

I am sure there are less fortunate individuals who would enjoy attending Komet games without feeling as though they have the right to defame one of the oldest minor league hockey organizations.

I am sure the Franke's, coach Graham and the players are embarrased by the handful of individuals who are out of control on social media.

Stop trying to speak for the masses when you are the minority.  Stop trying to manage or coach the team when you are simply a STH.

Stop trying to run Komet hockey into the ground.

I'm not sure about the "cancer" analogy ( except when found it has to be removed).  I agree with his GM reasoning and that is why this is so perplexing,

Last night the Komets skated 8 forwards.  Bless them all for playing but please note that four 0f the eight ( Schrock - 2 goals 27 games, Miller-0 goals 24 games, Szydlowski-0 goals 18 games, and Nutkevitch -0 goals 3 games) have combined for only 2 goals.  You can certainly give Nutkevitch a pass but the other three don't present any threat at all for the other team!  Still, at least they are playing.  I am left wondering what David Franke is doing.  If nothing else wouldn't you think he'd call up some fresh bodies from "A"? Just for a few days at least, anyway, to skate a couple of shifts.

We're way past egos and hurt feelings.  There have just been too many problems and when you think one is solved, two more develop.  I'm of the opinion that the Coach is in charge, yet he also takes the blame when things are out of control.  And things are certainly out of control.  It doesn't make Coach Graham a failure.  Circumstances have atrophied this particular team into something unrecognizable.  I believe his departure would solve a lot of things now, and for the immediate future.

I'm almost sure Coach Graham wouldn't publicly agree with or admit this, but maybe it would be better for him also.  I mean, after all, he's just human and the strain can't be good for him.

If that is accurate Rutherford is making a wise decision.
We can't call up the guy from Dayton that most of us think deserves a shot because he plays the game the old fashioned way and obviously Graham will have none of that.

I personally feel that there is something cancerous within the locker room.  This isn't just something about amateur, young players not showing up to practice or a captain who doesn't score and its definately not a matter of re-tooling.  When your players don't want to give effort or even play in your organization then you have a leadership group that has lost control of the team.  However there are four things the organization can do to help stop the bleeding, repair the team and reclaim the fanbase. 1. Name a permanent captain-Whether it comes from Schrock, Marino, or Auger one of them needs to don the "C" for the rest of the season.  Now this is not just a casual name, this naming also comes with an ultimatum, you lead by example by working your butt off both on and off the ice and give 150% or you are gone next year.  I heard one of the Franke's say in a radio interview that in this league a named captain wasn't needed because the players know who the leaders are and that the "C" doesn't have that much to do with the team.  Well I would contest that it absolutely is needed and that is exemplified by the recent downfall of the personel.  2. Place a 4wk deadline on coach Graham - Tell him that he either takes back his locker room and puts the spark back or he will not be coaching the K's anymore.  I personally feel that Graham has turned into Jim Schwartz.  He is a good coach but cannot get his players to respond to him.  3. Aquire an NHL affiliation with either the Red Wings, Blackhawks, or Blue Jackets and then turn over the GM responsibilities of personel over to their parent club - I'm sorry but this isnt the IHL or the CHL anymore.  The primary responsibility of the ECHL is to be a farm system to feed players into the NHL.  We are trying to compete in a league with undrafted players while everybody else is playing with guys who were drafted and could have a destination for the NHL (when was the last time we sent anybody up who has played in the NHL?)  If we gain an affiliation and allow the parent club control over personel then we get the smarts of people who know this league inside and out as well as the access to a deep roster pool. 4. Lower ticket prices back to 2yrs ago levels - Judging by the past few games at MC the fan base is almost non existent.  Last night was just pitiful as far as crowd participation.  I feel that part of the problem is the raise of ticket prices.  This is the ECHL, the league where we have near the bottom of the professional hockey world.  We cannot expect to gain AHL ticket revenue with a sub ECHL roster.  One example, the Komets lower arena prices are $26 whereas the Grand Rapids Griffins only charge $18 for the lower arena.  We need to make games more affordable for families and provide a better quality product for a town that has supported them for decades.

I believe Blake stated in another post, when I suggested Mafhouz be called up, that he would not fit in with us or not make it here.   Just an fyi.

Dear Anonymous...please do not assume that those of us calling for changes are in the minority....not in the section I sit in..most feel the need for change....mine is not as severe as others but please do not speak for us....this website is open to any and all to comment as we feel necessary....unbelievable!

Sam, be real....there is no way they will lower ticket prices.....as I have stated earlier

Sam, you do realize that the C is with Schrock...have you not been paying attention

Affiliation....2 late now....drop it til next year

Sam
Mon, 12/30/2013 - 5:18pm

I have and I did notice that the C is with Schrock.  I will admit that I haven't been able to go to as many games lately because of money but from what I heard from others that have gone is that he is wearing the C but is not the actual named captain. And I know it's too late in the season for the affiliation but it needs to be done this offseason.  And I know that they won't lower ticket prices but what I was saying was that these were things that I felt they needed to do not necessarilly things that I think they will do.

I believe that Blake was stating his opinion and nothing more regards the Dayton player I mentioned. Call him up and let his abilities or lack of  make the determination like the others that have and have not be retained.
