From a Komets' press release:
The Komets announced Thursday that they have acquired forward Mike Embach and defenseman Nathan Martine in a trade with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the ECHL.
Embach, 25, is a three-year pro after starting this season appearing in five games with Cincinnati before he was traded to Gwinnett. The left winger skated 11 games scoring six goals and 10 points with the Gladiators before his trade to Fort Wayne Thursday. Embach made his college debut in 2007-08 with Ferris State of the CCHA where he completed four seasons before making his pro debut in the AHL during 2010-11 where he appeared in five games with Texas. The Orland Park, Illinois native made his ECHL debut in 2011-12 with the Chicago Express before posting a career year with Cincinnati last season scoring 18 goals and 34 points in 55 games. Embach has accumulated ECHL career totals of 37 goals, 35 assists and 72 points in 131 games.
Martine (marr-TEEN), 25, is in his second pro season after making his rookie appearance last year skating six games with Reading in the ECHL. The Port Colbourne, Ontario native skated five seasons of juniors in the OHL from 2004-05 to 2008-09. Martine made his college debut with the University of Guelph in the OUAA in 2009-10 where he played four seasons. The defenseman began this season appearing in 16 games with Gwinnett before his trade to Fort Wayne Thursday.
In exchange for Embach and Martine, the Komets traded forward Bobby Hughes and defenseman Rob Kwiet along with the rights to forward Brett Lyon to Gwinnett. Hughes scored five goals, nine points and 12 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Komets while Kwiet registered seven assists and 10 penalty minutes in 20 games with Fort Wayne. Lyon began this season appearing in four games with Bakersfield before the Komets acquired him in a trade for cash Nov. 17. Lyon skated three games with the Komets before being placed on suspension Nov 25.
Comments
What a huge move. I did like Hughes a bunch but you have to give to get. Hopefully Embach can keep putting the puck in the net and contributing.
I absolutely love this trade. What a huge move. This tells me the Komets are motivated to get this thing turned around.
I like this trade. We had 5 true centers. Embach is a strong player. Good left winger with Lang ( which should move him to his natural position)and Vaski
Need to get the 3rd line going.
good move hope this ignites some guys!
This trade seems more about getting rid of Hughes and whatever personality conflict he had with Graham and throwing in Lyons rights and Kwiet. Pretty much a wash in some respects but the D-Man coming is a -9 with 1 point. Not sure we addressed anything with this trade still need a Power Forward type imo and some more grit. Now looking back at the trade that brough Hughes to FW and we sent Rizk in that trade I wasn't a big fan of that trade becuase Rizk was a big body type forward and thought he was a "team player". So now two of the more prominent signings in the off-season has turned into a bust.
I'm glad to read that some of the comments above approve of the trade. I, for one, am not sure if either guy coming in is an improvement of the roster. I don't know but am anxious to watch Embach. Are they scheduled to be in Fort Wayne by Sunday?
Not sure if Gwinnett is closer to Hughes' sister. Wasn't that the reason he came here in the first place? Just kidding.
Not very excited about this trade..nah.
Don't get too excited about the minus rating for the new Gladiator players. No one on that team is in the plus column. Hope these moves are what it takes to turn things around!
It's not the players but the frankes what you to think that because they made a bone head move hiring t Graham as the head coach...Graham is a joke and waste tof time ..
Liked Hughes as well...Kwiet did nothing for me....glad he is gone
Not sure of these other players, but if the comments above can be believed...we will have to see
Still like Graham however....not enough time has gone by to tell if he is good or bad
gotta love the "anonymous" poster...who thinks they know EVERYTHING
It's my opinion and I can believe what I want and how I see it...I never I said knew everything Mark21...I think there was better choices out there that had better leadership and more time behind the bench ...
