I, also, voted for Southorn.  It's an interesting question which may be to recent to be totally fair.

The Komets are in dire need of (in my opinion) three things.  1) A dependable stay-at-home defenseman, 2) more help for its third line, and 3) a veteran, stone solid goaltender.  The first two are more imperative than the third .

Remember when Auger and Fleming were fighting for a roster spot and considered a long shot for even the third line?  Where would we be without them?  I have a little trouble putting a lot of faith in our "talent" evaluators when I think back on those days.

I think Lacasse has done a nice job and I love the way Embach plays the game.  He handles the situations well and is becoming one of my favorites to watch.  (Fleming is one, also).

The goaltenders both played well this past weekend.  Is it just me, or wouldn't the Komets be better off playing a simpler game when leading by two or more in the third period?  Get the puck out of the zone, play less fancy, take advantage of the other teams' trying to pinch an extra defenseman down low to try to get an odd man rush.

I'm still trying to figure a way to get Coyle up front at forward.  Sometimes his offensive instincts get wasted and other times he gets caught.

Maybe the best acquisition  is the roster spots left open by Tuzzolino, Kwiet, and even Firman.  (Maybe Hughes also, but he did have talent).  The Komets seem to have done a nice job filling them, and I think they are still two or three spots away.

Gates could be the stay-at-home defenseman. He was playing well before he got hurt.

If given regular minutes Pokuluk would be that stay at home defenseman.  However, he got on Graham's list with his opening night ill advised pass in front of the Ks net and has not escaped the doghouse since.  With regular minutes and a commitment to improving his physical play his production would be better than Gates or Lacasse.  He played a regular shift last spring on a team that went to the ECHL finals.  He is much better than a spare d-man on this team.
