Blake, I think you are spot-on correct, but I am not quite ready to give up on Makarov and Reichard. I thought Cody looked a lot better in the last game. He had better position, better rebound control and most importantly, he was aggressive towards the shooters. As a consequence he was 2 on 41 (.951) and got a well-earned W.

Very well said Blake I agree with you. I would like to add just a few things. Get rid of Kwiet he tuns the puck over and waits way to long to make a play. Finding another D would not be that hard I bet. Get rid of Mangan the 4 guys who were the 3rd line on Saturday did very well, now if they can score from time to time. All of that and this team would roll. Oh also get the team owners to stop the whole PC thing and bring back all the old songs and crowed stuff. If need be invoke the twister guys just for fun.

"The problem is the Fort Wayne goaltenders have been giving up one soft goal per game, and that soft goal is killing their team in crucial moments."
According to the ECHL webpage the Komets are 4-1-3 in one goal games. Take away one goal against from each of those games and think of the improvement in their record, standings. By my poor math, it would be an addition of five points in the standings.

You're forgetting empty-net goals.

Usually the komets get themselves pretty set when it comes to the goaltender position. Last year they went with Effinger and had Reiter coming in. I think they thought that, between the two of them, they were covered in case of call-up or injury. Most years the Frankes built their teams from the goal line on out.
For years they had Boucher and could count on him until he suffered his injury/operation.
I think they were pretty comfortable with Muse and Reichard to start this season. As we know, that tandem only lasted one game. Defense is part of the game that has to be played by everyone on the ice. Puhalski knew it, Sims knew it, Chaulk knew it, and I'm convinced Graham does to. Sometimes it takes time and changes for a team to play thay style. We'll see.
Point is sometimes the "team" is at fault, sometimes the goaltender, and sometimes the opposition just makes plays (they get paid, too).
At 4-1-3, one more goal being scored or one less given up would change everything....and if that occurred you probably wouldn't pull your goaltender and suffer "empty net" scores.

No, what I meant was, if you add in the empty-net games that had a soft goal, they'd probably have more than the five points you suggested.

I think another big need for the team is some size up front that will play the body and create some havoc in the corners and in front of the net.
I think we also need some grit and toughness. We don't have a guy that other teams know they have to answer to when they rough up our skill players. I know that Schrock has taken a lot of heat on the blogs but, without him, we would have no one to fill this role. The problem is that Schrocky always seems to be looking up at who he is tangling with.

Sorry Blake but I can never agree on throwing the Goaltenders under the bus. Greenville has the best two tenders statiscally and they are not doing that well as a team.
I will however agree on Shrock. He may have the most guts of any player I can remember. He will do anything to play for this team. That said, I mentioned at the first of last year, all the fighting is going to hurt him. He isn't very big. He can't continue to be a top 6 guy and be expected to drop the gloves every night.
