Well, guess we see why it was a good idea to not trade a dman. What a weekend this is going to be. Go Komets
Frazee scores in his first game with Eville
hey superfan, are you going to the sports corp event next friday?
So Lake Erie loses one defenseman from their corps of 8..dropping them to 7...so they felt the need to then call 2 defenseman up?? I dont get that call...Now 9 active.
Lake Erie has 2 regular defensemen injured, that's why.
Just guessing, but I'm thinking that was one tough phone call to take.
Sure, the whole idea of the ECHL is to develop players, but still, to take two defensemen at once? You'd like to think that a little forethought was used.
Look, as a fan you are glad to see players get a chance. No doubt. And since Leach is the property of Lake Erie, he is subject to their needs at any time. And since Martin is unaffiliated he can be picked up by any AHL team. And that is the fact that goes directly to my point.
Why would your "parent" teams hamstring you by depleting your defense? They could've left Martin here and called up any other unaffiliated defenseman in the entire ECHL. A great example of an organization skipping over their "property" is Nagle.
This is one weird happening. It leaves us to wonder how long this situation will continue...and how the Komets respond. I feel sorry for the "front office" on this one. No way for them to "see" this one coming.
The irony of this all is when Leach or Martin don't dress.
I do have a question, has there ever been a time when a player says "No" to a call up.
RG2 - I can't imagine anyone has turned down a call-up, not if they ever have any hope of a career beyond "AA" hockey.
BTW, loks like Jonas Gustaffson will be back with the Red Wings soon, so we will probably be seeing Nagle back with us maybe next week.
You think Gustoffson's return will release Nagle or will they wait for Howard to come back mid-feb?
I bet there has been a player or three that has taken a stand and said no. Maybe an older player and realizing that leaving will hurt his present team more then helping the higher up team in the short run. Knowing its just a small cup of coffee.
I liked Alan and Anne's comments/insight on the other posts regarding veteran players or lack there of.
Yesterday I ended one of my "books" by stating that this season has been interesting and fun.
Well, I'm not sure this week has been a lot of fun now, but Lake Erie's moves have continued the "interesting" part.
I'm not sure what kind of conversation went on between the Komets and Monsters, but assuming that we probably won't see either defenseman for the weekend, it would necessitate the Komets acquiring (at least) one more defenseman. Do they go the "A" route, or do they try to deal with an ECHL team?
Again, if a deal is to be made, I hope they go the "cash" way. If they can get some experience it shall surely mean an abundance of both forwards and defensemen. It's harder to get defensemen. And to acquire one that way would have to come from a team basically out of contention, a team that could use some money, and because of the situation, a team relatively close by.
Indy? Evansville? The Komets are ripe to be held up because of their immediate "need". My "gut" tells me Indy. They need the money the most.
By the way, I am thinking that the possibility of Schrock returning to the lineup is diminished a little because, until the defense is settled, it will be tough to calculate the salary cap.
Just my thoughts, probably wrong, but something needs to shake out.
Indy has an 8 or 9 game winning streak. They do have a fighting chance now to make the playoffs and are back in the rear window of Kalamazoo and Cincinnati. I would be surprised if they did anything to jeopradize their team right now. They are firing on all cylinders. Im not too concerned about the komets making any knee jerk reaction trades right at this time. I dont think they have to. When Crowder and Faille return, there will be a few guys they will have to do something with. Play 5 d this weekend. Been done many times before
remember the good old days of 2011 and2012 when posters were screaming to get out of the OLD I /CHL and move to the ECHL. I bet Blake still has copies of those postings.
Just like when Lake Erie tried to play nice and retun Nagle, he was snatched up by another team. Same thing could happen to Martin. Say Lake Erie says we won't play him anyway so we'll just sign some other random guy to a PTO, what's stopping every other team in the league from signing Martin. He was the team's all-star, he is on the radar. Isn't it at least better if the Komets have to lose someone that they go to Lake Erie?
You'll see at least one play for Lake Erie this weekend. As I said, two regular guys are injured and one got called up to the NHL.
First, I doubt very, very much that the komets play this weekend with only five defensemen. Sometimes it happens if a defenseman gets hurt during a game, but that isn't the case. Secondly, I would highly doubt that the K's would try and ask a forward to play the blue line. It's much easier for a defenseman to move to forward than a forward to move back.
Another ECHL team cannot claim Martin or Leach, for that matter. They are ECHL property of the Komets. It would be possible for another AHL team to call up Martin.
Indy has played very well lately. But take a look at games played. They've played like 46 games. Plus those two teams were just mentioned by me because they were close. Could be Brampton, Missouri, or any other team where the travel could be made in a day.
Sorry, both Indy and Evansville has played 42 games not the 46 games I posted above. They have both played 6 games more than Kalamazoo. And I understand your point regarding Indy and the new success they have found.
We'll see how the Franke's respond. Game time is only 26 hours away. They're in a tough position and I'm sure they are analyzing lots of stuff right now. A defenseman from the SPHL? Maybe even Gwinnett? The Monsters will be playing at Oklahoma City, so that's a bit of a trek.
This is kind of fascinating and they are "earning" their money right now.
I don't know how updated this was, but going to the AHL standings, highlighting on the Monsters, I counted 7 defensemen, neither Martin nor Leach were listed so I'm pretty sure it isn't up to date.
