Didnt watch yet, whats with Nagle? Detroit sent down Gustavsson on for conditioning. So Nagle sets in the stands on saturday. Will he be sent back soon?

Anything I tell you would be a pure guess because no one outside of Grand Rapids knows.

My guess with Nagle is we will not see him until Jimmy Howard returns. Detroit is going to make sure that Gustafsson is all the way back before they send a goalie down to the AHL. Blake you are absolutley correct in that the ECHL could care less about there fans otherwise they would re think the schedule lining up more games for the K'S with Toledo. They also have no guts when it comes to saying no to the AHL. That was proven last week with us losing the western teams to the AHL.

Muel, the move for the AHL moving west was actually a good thing for the ECHL. The only team it really hurt in the long run was Alaska. The travel costs for those teams playing any team outside California was huge. The travel costs for the three teams moving east will be significantly lower and it creates more teams to play each other in the northeast. Thats all a good thing. How stable the franchises stay with going from AAA to AA in the old AHL cities remains to be seen. I think it also helps Colorado playing more teams east and southeast of them.
Too many times prestige and vanity get in the way of smart business with some of the owners. It will be nice if the ECHL can get Oklahoma City and /or Worcester in the fold, although OK City's attendence for the AHL was not strong. Having teams on the west coast looked impressive but it some respects it was more of its own league. The changes to come are not done. The landscape will always be changing. I think if there was anything in this league I could change it would be to ( Echoing Alan here, here, here, here, here) would be to increase veterans from 4 to 6 . I think we all agree on this.

Why did Grand Rapids take Nagle when they could /should have taken Lerg from their affiliate?

Please do not go on any further if you think or accuse me of needing to "get over myself", "taking myself too seriously" or providing "comic relief". No need for you to get frustated.
To Who:
You know what I think, Who? I think Lerg is just too small for them and their future plans. I think they wanted to take a look at Nagle for the future.
Incidentally, though Nagle hasn't played a bunch of games, he's been pretty near perfect. To me, he's almost assured of receiving an AHL contract for next season.
On this AHL-ECHL thing:
This idea of the AHL announcement into the west is probably a very good thing. When the CHL took over the WPHL, and the East Coast League took on the WCHL, it drew up some pretty evident competition. I'm not sure a lot of people realized it at the time, but the modern day landscape started taking shape then.
My own personal opinion is that the ECHL is largely based on "ego". They are the league that had the forethought to stake out a "claim" out west. As it turns out it may have been brilliant (though I think a lot of stuff needs to play out more).
I've posted before that I think their personality, and the Governor's, and Mckenna's is drenched with ego. Examine their "the premiere 'AA' hockey league" mantra. Why not "the crappiest AA hockey league"? Since it is the only "AA" league, both statements are true. Why not simply, "North America's AA hockey league"?
The western conference announcement, given one day after the AHL made it official (because they could never upstage the precious AHL), somewhat paints a picture of their place in the hierarchy and how they view their importance. Here's what McKenna said, "The transfers represent a major move by the ECHL and a significant transformation of the minor league hockey landscape." He makes it almost sound like it was his idea ( or that of the league) and he was doing us all a favor.
I think it's time to go back away from just initials (ECHL) and call themselves the EgoCentric Hockey League.
Just my opinion.

Thr question was asked why did Grand Rapids take Nagle instead of calling up Lerg from Toledo who is their affiliate. It is my understanding that Lerg had already had two call ups to Grand Rapids, and two PTO's is the max limit for a player being called up to one team.

RG2. You may be right about the moves being good for the ECHL...but I am not sure. What do you think the fans of the teams "demoted" from the AHL to the ECHL are going to think about watching lesser talent? I dont think they are going to like it and you can almost bet that there teams will not lower their ticket prices enough to make up for the change. I still say that the people that run the ECHL are GUTLESS when it comes to the AHL. They do not give a rats backside about the fans just the AHL/NHL. That would be understandable if the AHL/NHL owned all of the teams in this league but they don't.
Annoymous, as for the Nagle situation, if Lerg is not available for call up, then why didn't they call up Conway? He has a GAA of under 2.00? In a way, I am glad for Nagle but am convinced that there was a method to their madness. Why not raid our farm teams main rival rather than our own club! Let's just hope that Colorado does not suffer any goalie injuries like earlier in the season or we are in big trouble.

Muel- excellent point that I think has been discussed many times. Everyone seems to have a different answer and thought. The Komets overcame the transition from a super AAA to the AA of the Colonial Hockey league without really missing too much of a beat. It was still our Komets we were rooting for. There are not enough so called "purists" ( the NHL or nothing)who live in this area and refuse to go to a minor hockey league game to really make any difference in the teams support.
How those cities you mentioned adjust from AAA to AA remains to be seen. I think the "purists" probably wont give it much of a chance and those that just like hockey will. Anymore, I dont see a big difference between the AHL and the better teams in ECHL. Remember that back in the mid 90's there were probably 44-46 AAA teams between the AHL and the old IHL. With only 30 teams now there has to be some carry over of those skilled players to the AA.
That first year in the league 2012 we saw a number of players that are now in the NHL( Luke Glendenning, Darin Archiblod) so on any given night you are watching some kid that will probably make it and a few who maybe should have but got caught up in numbers or some other facet. ( just a tad to slow, maybe slightly undersized, needs better hands etc)
I just wish that they would change the leagues name now.
