I think Wheeling is a much more dangerous team with a lot of unknowns for the Ks. One being Ratchuck he will always have the Ks number and has killed them a couple of times this year. The positives here is that the Ks really have been playing well. If Toledo wins tonight they will be #1 very weary by Friday and #2 not as confident as the Ks are after dominating the first series.

See http://www.bcsn.tv/news_article/show/509213 for an interesting article on game 6 of the Toledo - Wheeling series. Toledo, and their goalie, obviously didn't play well last night. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight.

As we mourn the loss of Lionel Repka, and await the conclusion of the Toledo-Wheeling series, I have had some time to think about the next bit of "news" to fall.
That would be whether Colorado keeps the K's as its ECHL affiliate or moves on (as they did with Lake Erie).
While Lake Erie is now the AHL affiliate for the Columbus Blue Jackets, it is my hope that Fort Wayne will not follow in that same path.
I have little confidence with the Blue Jackets. They have not shown a success (historically) with their affiliates. The Komets once had a "working agreement" with the Blue Jackets that was, at best, unproductive. But that was a different team in a different league.
Under Colorado, the Komets have had a much different (and positive) experience. AHL players ( in the Colorado-Lake Erie system) that have played in Fort Wayne are Petryk, Meurs, Beaupre, Heard, and Will.
The relationship between Colorado and Fort Wayne seems to have been a good one. It seems as if both teams (at their mangement level) had a good working understanding of common goals and how to acheive them. Both respected the other and worked together to maintain the highest level of play. ( We saw just the opposite of this during the Anaheim-Norfolk year).
The Komets and Gary Graham should be recognized for putting together a competitive team in the offseason. A team that was recognized by other AHL teams for its talent. Here's the proof:
Nagle, goaltender, was called up to four different AHL teams. (Lake Erie, did not play, Rochester-2 games, Grand Rapids-2 games, Utica-1 game). Forwards: Embach (Norfolk-3 games), Szydlowski (Binghampton-3 games, Lake Erie-5 games, Norfolk-3 games), Pistilli (Norfolk-10 games), Faille (Texas-21 games). Defensemen: Leach (Lake Erie-10 games), Martin (Lake Erie-7 games).
By the way, Will, goaltender, played 11 games with Lake Erie. Forwards Meurs, played 20 games with Lake Erie, and Heard played 50 games with Lake Erie.
Convincing players and player's agents, that they will be "noticed" is imperative for successful recruiting. I think the Komets have succeeded in doing that.
Maybe I've missed somebody but the point is that many players under standard ECHL contracts were noticed, called up, and played for other teams (organizations) in the AHL. The komets have benefitted from being affiliated with Colorado (and that doesn't happen all the time dealing with NHL teams).
I'm not saying that it isn't frustrating at times. Being on the bottom of the "totem pole" can be painful. But, sometimes, the pain is a little less hurtful when your NHL team understands and is willing to work together
I'm hoping for a continuance of a Avalanche-Komets relationship for 2015-2016.

I think we should be concerned about the Grand Rapids -Toronto series. GR has a couple/three of Walleye ( on Walleye playoff roster)on their starting roster. Good ones. Toronto is up 2-0 in a best of 5. Next 3 in GR. If GR loses, that changes and strengthens the walleye roster.
Wheelings parent is up 2-0 and dont expect WBS to lose. I really want us to play Florida in the conference championship. Nice road trip
BTW, that story Blake told about Lionel and fan growing up in Great Neck New York is just another great story that makes the legacy of the Komet players who stay here, so great. Love that stuff.
