So OK, there were four fights in 11 years. I was wrong by two fights. Lots of pushing, shoving, roughing and unsportsmanlike penalties but not that many fights. Always the threat, but very few follow throughs.
That said, I have always respected Matt Krug as a guy who can skate a regular shift and even more as a person. He's first-class. He's also one of the most-disciplined players for a tough guy I've ever seen. He gets it.
As for the decision to release him, I am absolutely thrilled that I don't have to make those decisions. They are brutal, but folks, we're going to have the same thing every year in the ECHL. It absolutely sucks, but there's no other options as long as you are an affiliate and at the mercy of the AHL teams.
I think the Komets are going to have to let go of a couple of players today who have been here all or most of the year, because they won't have any choice.

Last year Schrock fought Dalhuisen in game 3 of Cicinnati series. During the 2012 playoffs on the scoresheets there were 4 fights in the Rapid City series, 1 in the Missouri series, and 1 in the Wichita series.
Wondering if Leach has had his surgery. I'm sure that they will announce when it is completed, but will they give out whether any nerves or tendons had to be repaired?
This roster update has me a little confused. I know that they may have to include some Lake Erie players but how do you release your own players before some help shows up? I suppose its the 20+3 thing, but really, this is guesswork. Say, for instance, that Lake Erie does make their playoffs and one of the players destined to come to Fort Wayne would get hurt during the AHL game. What happens then?
Can't understand how the AHL season ends after the NHL season. Where is the thinking with that?

It would appear that the Komets for most part choose not to engage in "Fights". Again to allow it to occur during the regular season and then for the Playoffs to employ a "no fighting" mentality is from my standpoint a double standard. You can't promote it as "part of the game" and then during the playoff's make statements that is something a team doesn't engage in. In the playoffs there always seems to be more stick work, extra shots, and more cheap play without players having to answer for their actions. If the statement that was made about the decision to cut Krug is that his role was a "fighter" and "no one fights in the playoff's" as a reason he was cut that is a pretty disrepectiveful reason to cut someone. They basiscally de-valued him as a player and that is shameful. But fighting does occur in the playoffs in the ECHL and in some series more than others.
So..cut Krug due 2 vets status. .why not Clarke instead? Like I said before. .based on the proposed player's 2 b sent..would not think they could help..go with those that got u here!!!
Couldn't agree more with who/suz, Clarke is not needed in the playoffs. We are overloaded with forwards.
Sgriffith, thanks for laying out FACTS. Really, just for the conversation, even the hint of a player retaliating against rough play on a team's skill players is worth having an "enforcer".
But I'm wondering whether the "no fighting" in the playoffs was just an answer to placate the question revolving around Krug.
But anyway, thanks for your research and your common sense approach to the Krug question in particular, and the fighting question in general. Your posts are filled with "common sense". The only problem is that "common sense" is rarely used in hockey and almost never in the ECHL.
