I dont think the Komets could have applied any more pressure on Toledo as they did starting the second period thru overtime. But with that being said, sometimes you dont get rewarded and the other team gets that goal that takes the wind out of your sails. The charater of this team was put on display by its grit and tenacity scoring the goal with 26 seconds left. The team that should have won this game... did. Did not catch my breath till I pulled in the driveway. WOW. Too much fun.
Reminded me a little of Port Huron game with Hodgman

If the Komets can play for 3 full periods like they did at the end of the game last night, they should be okay. The bad first peiod cost them, and they are lucky that they weren't behind more than 1-0. Toledo was not a happy, cocky team once the K's really started playing. Officiating is always a challenge, and last night was no exception. Let's hope that the boys come out flying on Thursday.

I hate to blame "officiating" for the results of a game. It always seems weak and "excuse" making. A small discussion in my section was that in the playoffs, they should "just let 'em play". I, on the other hand, think that the ref should call anything that is a penalty. Playoffs or not. Hockey is hockey regardless of the time of the season and, if it's a penalty in October, it should be a penalty in June. If it's a penalty in the first period, it should be a penalty in the third (or overtime).
Just be consistent. Well, referee Stephen Reneau was consistent. CONSISTENTLY BAD. He was "hard to believe" bad. You almost had the feeling as if the Komets were playing the Walleye AND the referee. The "takedown" of Schrock leading to Frk's goal was mind boggling.
Yet they won and that is the most important thing.
Other thoughts: I thought the move to Pat Nagle was the correct way to go. You never know how a "rusty" goaltender will respond and if the game inactivity would hurt the team. I thought he played very solid.
Very happy to see Crowder in the lineup. He got that goal with 26 seconds left (and honestly, I thought the game was over).
Very happy with the play of defenseman Connor Kucera. He played his position well and kept "his man" under control all night. Except for passing up a shot (early in the game, which I attributed to maybe "nerves"), he was a force from outside blasting shots on the net thereafter.
Where would this team be without Heard? Scores off a great feed from Meurs. Lots of ice time and taking most of the important faceoffs.
I am concerned that Embach had only one shot (he scored), and Pistilli and Faille only had two shots each.
Graham broke up his lines. Spreading the wealth between three lines. Whoever may have suggested breaking up the line of Faille -Embach- Szydlowski should be "shot". I think that was the reaction when I suggested it a couple of weeks ago...and I wish that I could feel good about it...except I can't. Not with the injury to Szydlowski. I always fear the worst when a knee is involved.
Hope the best for Szyd.

Sorry Alan...I normally argee with what you point out, but I am tired of listening to you toot your own horn on breaking up the Money Line. I'm not sure if I was the one that said "Shot" when you suggested to spread the wealth, but I was 100% against breaking up a good thing. Graham did not split up the Money Line beacuse he needed to spread out their scoring, which is the reason you gave weeks ago. He split them up because they were struggling to do anything and the pressure of being the top line was wearing on them. This way each line had to pick up the slack, even more after Syd went down, and they could not take a shift off thinking once the Money Line got out there they would save us with a goal or two.

I agree with what I said.
always wanted to post that.
They say the best defense is a good offense. When you outshoot the other team 2.5 to 1 and control the flow, you should be that winning team. I think two things are in play here. 1. Goaltending will be the constant ..or varible... that will be a major impact in this series. Regardless of the lines. I also think CJ Severyn is playing too well not to get a little love in the back of the net. I really like his play/hustle of late and I will refer back to a post I made before the playoffs began, that 2. the third line, whomever it may comprise, is the key to this team being successful.
I thought the new D man was very composed and kept the simple play in front of him. Very good at taking the man, not the puck, which is the right way.

Yes, Alan, you are still full of it. You can quote me if you choose.
If they had followed your advice throughout the season, they'd hvae had 85 players in here and would have finished last. You are indeed an "expert."

Is it me but I find that 5000 fervant fans may be better then 8271 on -lookers. For a building half -filled my hats off to everyone thats there. Very loud for 4600 "expert" fans. To all Komets fans, keep it up and bring another fan or two with you.

No, Hoss. It wasn't you.
I admire your comments (even those which might not align with my thinking). I'm not sure that you are wrong with your reasons, but if you remember (and back when I first suggested this) the Komets had only one line doing the bulk of the scoring.
And I understand that this "being shot" thing was just an expression, not to be taken literally (but a lousy choice of words in this day and age of violence with guns, etc). So enough of that. I will not mention it again.
Maybe I'm wrong on this, but wasn't the Embach goal ( in overtime) the first time the Komets have held a lead in the series?

Lake Erie Monsters have a new coach, Jared Bednar. Was that Columbus Blue Jackets' decision or Lake Erie's decision?

According to this, Lake Erie's coaches (all but the 3d coach, Jock Callander) was directly from Colorado:
