It seems to me if Colorado's first choice was Fort Wayne, this decision would've been made by now. Fort Wayne's location vs. San Antonio is a plane flight...and whoever they eventually choose, it will be interesting to see just how much travel time is saved. Colorado seemed to like Graham, felt comfortable with him instructing their youngsters, and seemed to have an effective relationship with M. and D. Franke. As a fan I'm thinking Colorado is using Fort Wayne as a "last resort". Maybe its time to move on.
My second thought is that I'm not sure why the K's would protect Fleming, Powers, and Ouellet on this most recent protected list and not put them on the 20 man list due June 15th? Of the three, I think I'd like to see Fleming back and Powers come in. I'm going to look up Ouellet's status as far as being a veteran or not.
These things are an example of why I love the "silly" season. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes and I find it kind of fascinating.
Anyway, it was a nice informational article. I just went through my own list of players I'd like to see back from last season and I came up with 14 (at most) and I counted the Lake Erie guys on the list. Plenty of room for some young skilled players to come in and keep the momentum flowing.

with 5 AHLteams moving to the west coast, you almost wonder what differnce distance makes with ECHL teams. They Moved the AHL teams closer to the parent NHL but the ECHL teams are now farther away. A lot farther away. Oh the madness!!!!!

While waiting for the Colorado Avalanche decision, and in conjunction to RG2's post, I'm left wondering about the following:
When will the AHL move to Alaska? (My opinion is that a move to the AHL would make life simpler for both the AHL and the ECHL).
Has a decision been made about Oklahoma City?
Assuming that Colorado will not re-up, are the Komets going to inquire or field any interest from the New Jersey Devils, or the New York Islanders, or even the Winnipeg Jets?
And lastly, for you Komet fans, (if not Colorado) whom would you like to see the Komets align themselves with? I guess to make it realistic it would have to be with a team that hasn't announced its ECHL affiliate. For example, I'm supposing that most on here would say Detroit or Chicago but that doesn't seem to be a real possibility.

not sure at this point if it matters who our affiliate is. with our experience with anaheim and colorado we really dont know if its a good fit until we see how we are treated during a season. geographically and history wise it would be cool to be with chicago or detroit but we know that wont happen. with our past history id love to see winnepeg . columbus is probably the closest or st louis . love to stay with colorado but i put that at about 20%

Blake , well deserved award. Your coverageof the Komets always exceeds expectations and
as I have said to you before, your writing style is superb.
Alan- how about St Louis or Nashville? Or your dreaded blue Jackets( scenario-we get Blake S for last 6 games of the season after his last season in the OHL and he carries the Komets to the cup before a nice career in the NHL)

Congratulations, Blake.
The way you've been piling up awards lately I wouldn't be surprised if some newspaper or other publication from a "major league" city took you away.
No matter what, I've always said to friends that if you want the news first, if you're looking for the complete story, or if you want to delve into situations a little deeper, get the News-Sentinel.
You are the reason for that.

RG2, this is hockey and I've said before that it seems to be the one major sport where decisions seem to make less sense than any other of the major sports...but saying that
I do congratulate "hockey" for trying to make some geographical (common) sense. Complications occur because of existing contracts between franchises, some NHL teams own all or part of ECHL affiliates, and the new western division of the AHL.
I chose New Jersey and the Islanders because I don't believe they've made a choice where to locate their ECHL teams. I suggested Winnepeg because their ECHL affiliate (Ontario) is becoming part of the AHL.
If you really wanted this thing to go "topsy-turvy" I would suggest the Vancouver Canucks. If it happened, the Utica Comets would be their AHL affiliate, and the Fort Wayne Komets would be their ECHL affiliate. Two different spellings in the same "family". Yikes. This is "hockey" and it's just crazy enough to happen.
You're right. I do not want the BlueJackets. (If Siebenaler were to be sent here, it would be fun. But way too many negatives with Columbus).
Probably the best thing would be if Colorado decided to stay with Fort Wayne. But it seems as if Colorado is looking for something else. If it were not so they would've made this "easy" decision by now.

Responding back to you RG2, I'd love to see the K's be a Blues affiliate. My thought isn't based on any facts (I know, just like all my thoughts!) but just personally have always admired St. Louis from way back when they were awarded an expansion franchise. (Good trivia question is to name the six cities and their nicknames in that original expansion draft which doubled the NHL from six to twelve).
I have always wanted Martin St. Louis to be traded to the Blues because then the "name on the back of the jersey" WOULD be as important as the name on the front.
Not sure why it took so long for me to think of this but wouldn't the Colorado Eagles make a lot of sense for the Avalanche? For some reason I kept thinking that since the Denver Cutthroats went dark, no one else was real close to them. How stupid of me to forget.
But speaking of the Wolves (from your comment), aren't they already affiliated with three teams?
Two or three ECHL teams (former CHL teams) are independent. Thinking that it includes Rapid City and Tulsa (and at least another one). So in order to have a geographical, one per one basis of teams, lots of stuff still has to happen.
Finally, with the naming of Grand Rapid's coach to fill Babcock's old Detroit job, does that mean Toledo's Lalonde gets promoted to Grand Rapids?
Lots of stuff to be watching out for. 1) Who or what do the Komets trade to Gwinnett for Guggenberger. 2) 20 man roster list. 3) affiliation announcement. 4) player signings. 5) 8 man protected list.

Had a conversation with someone who told me that for their kids commencement they were told parking at the Coliseum would be $10.00!
Anybody have any idea on this? Have no idea whether its true, but my thinking is doubling parking fee is a little extreme. Just want to know if the fee has been raised, don't need a lecture on other buildings prices and such.

We haven't heard anything on our end, I as a Colorado fan. I've appreciated the updates here, our media doesn't tend to cover much of anything. We've been happy with the affiliation too so I'd be sad to see it go. I agree the Colorado Eagles would make sense and since Calgary will be leaving them would be good timing. I also wonder if Allen is a possibility and them still playing the finals is what keeps pushing it back.

It would make sense for the Colorado ECHL affiliate to be located close to San Antonio, their AHL affiliate. That does make the delay and Allen a possibility.

As usual, somebody making crap up. This is from Randy Brown: " Our parking lot rates have not changed. We charge $ 5.00 per car in the general lot and $ 8.00 for the preferred lot. We do not have a $ 10.00 fee. This kind of a claim seems to come up every year during commencement season. "
