Tailing the Komets

1-2-3

Everybody vent!

I'm dead serious about this, everybody get it all out right here and you'll feel better. Why should the rest of the week go this way when you can get at least part of it out of your system right here and now? C'mon, you'll all feel better, and the weather is going to be gorgeous. No profanity or personal attacks, of course.

Then I want to see one thing from each of you that you think will happen during Wednesday's game.

I'll start. Since I pretty much vented in today's column, I'll say my miserable cold is going to let up and the Komets are going to score two power-play goals on Wednesday. Who's next?

the veterans are killing us...and yes I was in PH Saturday and was disgusted with the let down in intensity the last 2 periods...if we don't hit, we don't win...You are right, I do feel better but a couple of wins would make that last!
Wednesday prediction...that stupid "Birdman" will flap his wings and scream like a wounded pigeon! Let's go Komets!!

Frankie will score a slick looking goal on the PP. Komets will start to crash the net and overwhelm Sterling with about 40 shots on goal and win 5-2. Also, the vets will have a much improved game...

I will be late in getting to tune in because I have a Wednesday night Psychology class...working on the TWO papers I have to turn in that night.

all I'm gonna say is Wednesday is a MUST win for the Komets

I will miss most of the game because my kid is gonna kick some butt playing his own game, and show the K's how the Power Play is done....the Komets will catch on from afar, and win, 3-1. Icy will ride along on the bus trip, lock that stupid Chicken Hawk in the bathroom, give him a swirly, and then flash Larry his panties (which are in a bunch, of course) from the K's bench to throw Larry off his game. I predict that Jungle Monkey gets Thursday off work, goes to PH, and harrasses Stan all evening and Stan finally just gives up crying and leaves the bench, leaving Kevin Hansen to coach from the bench so that he does not have to embarrass himself by pretending to be tough.

All in all....Go Komets!! :)

I think it will be 4-1 Komets. I like the two PP goals. P.C. and Leo need to breakout. We need to put the body on them so they are sore for the game on Friday. I also agree with Mark. It is a must win game.

I'm a middle aged balding foo foo drinking idiot, ref hating, bird loving komet fan.

We will defeat them.

Fact: Schebig has stinky feat, took the lid off the car and drove around tanning my bald spot thisd afternoon.

My teeth still hurt, I'm craving nachos but I can't eat the chips...
My mom will be yelling at the radio Wednesday night. I can't get WOWO in at home and the K's always lose when I listen online.
Does Icy wear jungle-print panties? Oh, the mental picture...

K's will win, power play will wake up, Hansen will take a cheap shot at someone and get his backside kicked.

FMM, I almost fell off my chair....we are waayyy too much alike. I almost wrote "jungle print panties", but thought I might get censored. Hilarious! And horrifying!

Hansen needs his butt kicked, all the cheap crap he has done lately. Tough, no way. Sorry Blake, I gotta disagree with you on that one. Maybe he can play thru some pain, but he sure does like to try to start stuff, then runs away like a little girl.

Mon, 04/26/2010 - 6:41pm

OK, How would Burgee know if I had stinky feet? I don't, but how would he know if I did? He is stoned most of the time. Either on little pills or foo foo's. Don't let him get a way with lying about hating ref's. He and Jimmy Hawthorne have a thing going on. We are due for Hawthorne either Wednesday or Friday for sure.

Only 10 seats left on the bus for Saturday to Port Huron.

Mon, 04/26/2010 - 6:53pm

OK,to vent.

1. Where in the world has Leo gone?
2. Why was Brad out on the ice for a minute and a half shift with 3 minutes left down a goal?
3. Whatever happened to shooting from the wing on a powerplay and letting your far side wing get the rebound?
4. Why do we overskate with the puck on 5-5 but don't skate with it at all on the powerplay with 1 less defender
5. Why do our d-men get stuck between deciding to block a shot and screening Tim Haun's vision? Do one or the other guys
6. How do we only give up 4 shots in one period then 14 the next?
7. Why aren't our D-men pinching more when the puck is behind the net? Warner and Danko are guilty of this last night letting pucks come out of the zone when they could have held it in. Trust your other d-man that he has your backside if the puck gets past you. Especially down a goal.
8. Why do teams wait so long to pull a goalie. You need the goal more than you need to not give one up.
9. Craig Welker sucks
10. The Chickenhawk videos and references seriously need to stop cause they are beating the hell out of us physically.
11. Kevin Hansen is the still the best cheap shot artist in hockey(and was 2 years ago when he played for us)
12. The best player in this series has been....Larry Sterling :(

As for a prediction....Colin Chaulk will shoot and score on the powerplay

This blog is going to get some extra hits if the ladies keep talking about panties.

If Langdon is the ref, I promise a Komet win. Langdon is the only consistant ref in the league. The players know what to expect and they are in control of who wins the game.

BLB and I were separated at birth... I thought the panties comment might have been borderline but said "what the heck". Is anyone watching the Chicago/Nashville game? 7 goals in the first period! Yikes! And Nashville totally stole our R&R part II song and "you suck" chant... grrr
I hope Wendy comes back, I miss her!

I love the Preds! They use the "you suck" all season. The morality police must not sponsor anything in Nashville.

Watching the Blackhawks coast as the more talented team in that series reminds me of...... well, it speaks for itself.

The one thing I think will happen on Wednesday? The Komets will wear thier road sweaters...

I just want you all to know, I laugh at all of your bantering back and forth, this is what blogs are for. I work in a small office and everyone know that works there that I am a huge Komet fan, I will be sitting at my desk during the day and just start laughing and all they have to say is "You reading the blog?". I love getting on here after a long day and smiling. Its a breath of fresh air sometimes.

I dont have any complaints because everyone has already said them all....
My Prediction is The Komets play with all heart Wednesday night and skate away with win. Let Go Komets!

What happened to the team that played Flint in the season finale? That team was physical and there was always somebody in front of the net. Sunday - not so much. There are guys out there hitting, to be sure. Chewy is giving it his all. Schrock - what can be said that hasn't been said? That kid is tough. Syro has even picked it up in the hitting department from a few weeks ago, he just needs to bury some more of the countless open-net chances he gets.

The bottom line here is this team is going to get penalties. We know it, PH knows it, and even the players know it. But right now, it is time to stop folding up on the penalty kill. Allowing a goal nine seconds, 11 seconds into a penalty kill is just plain unacceptable.

I'd sure rather see somebody like Bert or Danko take a penalty cross-checking somebody to get them out of the front of the net than to see all the offensive-zone penalties being called on retaliation and a few cheap shots. At least if you rough guys up in front they think twice about going there again, and if you're going to be shorthanded anyway you might as well make it count for something.

In the O-zone, the K's need guys like Huk to get back in front of Larry. For a medium-sized guy he has a knack for staying there and pestering goalies. I know it sucks taking a stick across the back, especially after a long season, but how bad do you want to win?

I'm not sure FW scores on the power play Wednesday, but if Leo and Huk can have an impact the K's come home tied 2-2. If not, well, the K's have come back from a 3-1 deficit on the Chicken Hawks before, but THAT Komets team really wanted to win.

Wednesday: Komets 3-2 in OT.

Four H's sum it all up...

Heart...Hustle...Hitting...Hunger

We've not seen those four things consistently from game-to-game or even period-to-period ALL...YEAR. It's disgusting that we threw away so many Wensday night games against basement-dwelling teams to lose the regular-season title...and we're doing the same thing in the playoffs.

Get up two goals and coast...stop doing the work...be stupid...play down to the level of your opponent...trail in the final minutes and never take a shot on goal!

This team needed a spark and a kick in the ass all year...and what did they get instead? A guy who played two shifts Sunday...

I just don't see it this year...sorry.

OK boys...prove me wrong!

Wednesday: Another one goal game, but this time the Ks come out on the good side.
Friday: A blowout win for the Ks.
Saturday: 1/3 the attendance at McMorran is Ks fans, another squeaker, and much like nearly all the writers predicted, Ks win it in 6.

My only complaint is the amount of shots taken 15+ feet out and not enough inside 10 feet. You can't win a playoff series without some garbage goals and the only way to get them is to have someone in front of the net more than half the time they are in the offensive zone. GET IN FRONT OF THE NET. We have been too easy on Larry.
I don't think we need to match them physically. I can't believe I'm saying that, but we are fast and more skilled with the puck. We just have to take it and not dish it out after the whistle like Hansen has all series.
One observation when I was watching the game Saturday night the PH announcer on B2 said that every scrum was initiated by the komets. I just laughed and thought to myself, even when Hansen skated in from the blue line after the whistle and knocked Haun down in the first game? Really?
Ok last one, Refs suck. I hate them. They always call the game the wrong way. What happened to last season when there would be 10 penalties called all game? Now we are having that every period. Let the players do some of the policing. Don't piss them off by putting them in the box and get them all worked up for the next time they get out on the ice.

On to optimism...Bouch and the Komets will shut out the Icehawks in their own arena and get a powerplay goal from someone that hasn't scored yet, and his name will rhyme with Luckalo. He will be less than 5 feet from Larry.

BTW Blake do you still stand by your statements a month ago that we pretty much own Larry and can shut down the top 2 scorers in the league? We have the chance right now to do both, and I pray you are right. I want to watch a little more than one game in the Jungle this year. Go Komets!

#1 As I said earlier this season this team is too old
#2 Port Huron is the better team.
#3 Despite #1 and #2 the Komets have shown time and time again the past few years starting with that Rockford series comeback that they can rise above teams that are better than they are. Will that happen this time? I don't think so but it wouldn't surprise me if it did.

BD, I agree with you, but you have to use a different example of Hansen cause that play was the biggest FLOP I have ever seen, including all the belly flops at the pool!!! That was the only reason Hansen was so mad because he didn't even touch Timmy and he still went down and Hansen was taken off the ice.

I fell in love with Komet hockey 18 years ago when I moved here. Sunday night was horrible hockey. I could go on and on... but my hubby already has! But as I have been invited to vent, here goes....

Welker is actually much much worse than Hawthorne, and I didn't think that was possible. Does anyone review the games and call refs to the carpet for their outright stoopidity? What a Stoodge.

Hodgie is an idiot. He saw the way things went all night and still couldn't keep his head out of his butt? We got here without him, we can do it without him.

Drouin is a big boy and needs to start using that big frame of his to do 100% of his job, not just the minimum to get by. Show up for work or go home. I could say that about o a lot of these guys. If O.C. and Chewie can make hits, so should you.

Chalk needs to start leading by example and shoot instead of looking for the pretty passes. This is PLAYOFF hockey, we don't need pretty, we need goals. They call it He Shoots, He Scores for a reason. Crash the darned net, will ya?!?

Bertram... ah, Bert, where do I start? I'll say here what I've been yelling from the stands all year long, "Hit him with your purse!" Stop acting like a girl and do YOUR JOB.

Warner... same goes. If you lose any teeth, you can get them fixed on the cheap. Show up for work or go home.

Shaffie was proof that age is just a number if you show up for work. He will be missed.

Shrocky, you are the Man. Between you and Chewie, you have made this a great season for watching hockey in the Fort. You set the example for the rest of the boys time and time again in terms of work ethic and pure heart.

Mac, same goes. Your are truly an asset to the Team. It takes a lot to be an enforcing presence and a strong player in general. You have a lot to be proud of in terms of player development.

To the Team in general. Keep your cool, Stop taking stupid penalties. Keep your head and heart in the game and your eyes on the Prize. And, please... please... whatever you do, don't give Larry a chance-in-hell at the Cup. I'll be listening Wednsady and expecting great things.

Hit Somebody!!!
Tue, 04/27/2010 - 5:22pm

I purposely stayed away from the blog the last couple of days to cool off. I still don't know what to say about this playoff series exactly.

I do have a couple of random thoughts....

1) this Komet team is more talented than PH....they seem to want it more, and seem to have more in the tank than we do. We look tired late in the game....it is not an excuse this time of year like they use it all year long when they look like crap. Gotta find a way to finish this team off, you are up 2-0 and have several chances to tack on one or 2 more goals and you don't finish it off. That has to hurt the Komets and piss them off....Hopefully they play with more killer instinct next game, Larry always seems he is a goal more away from losing his mind, you got to keep him rattled, heck, hit him if you have to, you might as well take that penalty rather some of the dumb penalties that have been taken.

2) This is the most importnat point I will make. You have to shutdown the back-door on their powerplay....It is there all night long, and no one is taking it away. Gotta be in position and physical.

3) We need to go back door on them on our powerplay, we seem to only play 1/4 of the zone during the powerplay, and we seem trapped all night long. Gotta keep the puck moving and someone has to get on the backdoor for an easy punch in. It is there to be taken. Take it.
