Tailing the Komets

2-0 Wings

Goals by Justin Cross and John Glavota. It could have been a lot worse, but Mark Nebus missed a penalty shot on Nick Boucher. Komets are not hitting and not getting to rebounds. Wings have gotten behind the D on two plays and cashed on both. Komets could have an argument on Kalamazoo's first goal as a forward was holding the stick of the Komets' Sean O'Connor on the play, but there was no call, and then O'Connor got a misconduct for arguing. Isn't Langdon calling alot more penalties than he normally does?

Blake, do you think this small rink hurts the K's as they can't get out and use their speed? We aren't playing physical enough, and I don't see the traffic in front of the net like we had in game 3.

We should not be getting beat by this team. IMO.

The K's were dominate up in Port Huron all season and their rink is even smaller.

Worst period of hockey the K's have played in a while. The PP for us has gone south again and the only one going to the net is Mac all of our shots are from outside and if you don't get traffic in front of Martin he will just eat it up. The sad thing is the Kzoo is playing without 2 of their best d-men and we can't get anything going. Speed on a smaller ice surface worthless unless you have a physcial component which we don't tonight. This series has 7 games written all over it with the way the home team is playing at home.

Not really, Hit. Martin is playing extremely well and Ks haven't been able to push a rebound past him. There's some traffic in front, but obviously not enough. Willis makes a big difference for Kzoo.

IMO not a typical langdon game.

Wed, 04/22/2009 - 6:56pm

If you think about it....why should Willis make any difference what-so-ever? He has had major injuries all year and he isn't the most skilled guy out there.

Why aren't we torching their defense and pounding them physically? Is Langdon calling it so tight that our guys are backing off? They aren't sure what he might call?

Blake Sebring
Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:11pm

No, they just aren't hitting as much. Give Martin credit, he's made some wonderful saves. Komets have by far the better amount of scoring chances, but he's just made the saves. Simple as that. Kzoo is also moving the puck much better tonight on defense. They are blocking a ton of shots as well.

Blake Sebring

Seems to me, most of what Landon is calling are clear scoring chances and blows to the head.

Isn't the K-Zoo ice a smaller surface than in Fort Wayne Blake? I know I read that once, and it looks definitely smaller in person....is it an optical illusion?

RunningKomet
Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:31pm

It sounds a bit on the KometCast like the Ks are lackluster tonight and aren't playing with the same intensity as we see at home. Any truth to that Blake, or is Martin just that on tonight?

ToeBlake
Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:34pm

It is now a best 2 of 3 series with the most important game of the year Friday night in the Fort. I hate to say this but this is a must win for the K's the pressure is squarely on our shoulders. We didn't play with any type of spark until the later part of the 3rd period and by that time it was to late. One bad period of hockey cost the K's the game tonight. If PC comes back Friday night I believe MVL has to sit. He has not played well at all and has been non-existant.

ToeBlake
Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:35pm

Martin was on tonight because the K's didn't buzz the net and while we had 45+ shots the majority were from the outside and when he had to make the big save he did.

Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:41pm

Plus putting all the shots right into Martin's chest didn't help the K's chances at all. We've got to come out hitting and someone has got to stake themselves out in front of that net and be willing to take the punishment along with it. Friday's game is indeed important as the K's just can't seem to get anything going in K-zoo right now. It's time for an attitude adjustment. Shoot! Hit Somebody! Score! Oh, and Go K's!!!

I guess the real question now is how many seats are available for Saturday's game in Kzoo?

Hit Somebody!!!
Wed, 04/22/2009 - 7:56pm

More than enough....that town is not supporting that team that well. 2500 there last Saturday and 1250 at least were K's fans.

The Komets need to commit to physical play to win this series. Bertram and Pence must stop letting guys skate around them. Hodgeman and company need to stop skating the puck around so much and get the puck to an open man. Stop being so fancy and go hard to the net. We have to find a way to bury the puck.

MVL is the odd-man out right now if PC comes back. MVL is not sniping the net right now.

We will pull this series out. We need to get back to dominating the play however.

That's typical for a first-round playoff series throughout the 35-year history of the team. Nothing newsworthy there.

I'll agree 100 percent, there were a lot of guys trying to be too fancy tonight, but they probably had 20-25 shots from the slot. Martin just made the saves and didn't give up any rebounds. Maybe they were used to shooting high because of two games against Tapp, but they have to go low on Martin to get the rebs.

Sometimes you have to give the other guys a little credit, too.

The food was greasy, the mascott was cheesy and the barn smelled like dirty socks. There wasn't enough body heat in the arena to warm it up. Got a good look at Langdon before the game, he looked tired and had the look like he didn't want to be there. Talked to the lot attendents, you can tailgate there just be discreet and smart (wink wink hint hint, if you don't understand that then you will be upset)

Well, when does the booster bus leave?? Thanks for the food tips, Burgee. Get me a grape or an orange, but none of that stinkin' rootbeer. I can't say I've ever had the pleasure of going to Kzoo for a game but I haven't heard good things. I guess I'm spoiled being a Fort Wayner all of my life. Maybe I can reminisce about the old lite brite scoreboard we used to have at the Jungle when I'm up there. In any event, GO KOMETS!!!!!!!

I hate it up there. The ushers hate Komets fan and tried to kick everyone out. There is a rude bunch of boys. One of them with a painted head and weighs about 450 pounds(not joking) who yell crude remarks the whole game. I'm going but hope we can blow them out, we haven't done that in their barn yet. Terrible place to watch a game. But please come 'cause it fun having more fans then they have. BTW, how many Komet fans were there last night.

I have been to Kalamazoo many, many times. I have never been treated rude or disrespectful. Always just the other way around. Ushers are more than polite. The food is outstanding fairly prices. Management and staff have been more than polite. There is not a bad seat in the building to see a hockey game. There are people who drink too much in every arena. I am sure there are Komet fans who do that in Kalamazoo just like they do in Fort Wayne. I go to see a hockey game. Hopefully a Komet win but not always. Maybe we can win one up there Saturday. Lets' win one Friday first and take care of business on Saturday. Go Komets!!!!

I agree- Kalamazoo is a great place to watch a game and people are more than friendly. The only time I have been disappointed was with a Fort Wayne fan making a complete jerk of himself. He was looking for a fight with some K-Wings fans. I was embarrassed for him. Komets are in for a dog fight now. Anybody think Drouin will make it back this series?

RunningKomet, Go earlly. Take I69 North to I94 West. Get off at the 2nd Kalamazoo exit. Turn Left at the Stop sign and Right at the light go to the next traffic signal and turn right. You are there. Everyone has their favorite seat. I like upper section 18 or 19 in the corner. Most people think they have to set behind the Komet bench Section 22 or 23. Three Chicken Strips and lot of FF with a soft drink is $6 I think. Hot bread sticks are great! If you call for tickets ask for Bruce in the ticket office. He is a real nice gentelman and he will take care of you. Pat attention to you speen in Michigan. The State Police "Love" speeders. It is about 1 hour and 40 minutes from Dupont Road. I have nothing for you to do but bring back the WIN. Go Komets!!

On 69 in michigan the coppers sit around mile marker 13 and 25, saw a bunch of them last night. If you get the chicken strips make sure you get two sauces. I usually see clifford, peggy, twister, rich, darren, dave, jacob and stick among others.....
