Here's an open call from a great idea by Larry Schmitt. I would like for fans to email me some of the old pictures they may have taken at Komets games throughout the years. Then once a week, or even more often if we get enough pictures, we'll post them on the blog and give the photographer credit and maybe write up a little info on what's happening in the pictures.
I'll also try to mix in a few from The News-Sentinel files.

VERY COOL! The only thing is you didn't do it for the first picture... I love the idea though and it can give some of us that aren't Baby Boomers an insight into the history of the team from others who were actually there in the "good 'ol days"!

Fair enough, 1965 champs in the locker room after beating Des Moines on April 27, 1965. Len Thornson is drinking from the cup with John Goodwin over his right shoulder, Chuck Adamson in front raising his fist, Reggie Primeau is facing the cup in the lower right corner, I believe Merv Dubchak is behind Chuck with his back to the camera. Cy Whiteside is to Lenny's left, and it's Pemmer standing next to him. Bill Orban is standing to the right of Chuck.
I will have to dig out my old Komet photos out of the attic and see what I have.

By the way....the photo negative appears to be backwards?

You're right....the "K" on the Spaceman is backwards, same with the label on the locker, and the "C" on Thornson's jersey.

I remember that team pretty well. Just a kid but I got Cy Whiteside's autograph before a game as they were skating around during the pre-game warm up. ( I really was after the autograph of Cal Purinton. He wouldn't stop to autograph my "Komet hockey lucky number souvenir program". What I remember most about that whole thing was that as he made each lap I would call his name and he would look directly at me. I'll never forget the "wild" look he had in his eyes as he skated around. It was creepy. I was grateful that Whiteside took the time for an autograph. Most people probably have forgotten Cy Whiteside but I'll always remember him for being kind to a kid). Also the Komets won the Turner Cup on my birthday which was extra special for me.
So many memories and special moments. Some are good and some are more painful.
I am left wondering what kind of memories the 2011-2012 edition of the Fort Wayne Komets may provide. As of this day, and having the information that we have on September 27, 2011, are you optimistic or pessimistic about this team and why?
Personally I'm a little pessimistic as I believe we are weak up front as far as goal scorers are concerned. How do you feel about this roster? Look, I know it is real, real early but what are your thoughts about the roster assembled so far?
Blake, perhaps you are already working on this, but maybe it's time for an update by the Franke's as camp gets closer.
Funny, I always gauged Alan to be around 48 years old. Unless he had en exceptional memory for a 2 year old, looks like I was off.
Then again, most people figure me to be about 14 based on this blog. :-)
Would everyone please stop telling me how to do my job? LOL. I wish I had a nickel, no a penny... I've just got enough bosses as it is telling me to do too much right now and at this second Komets are going to have to take a backseat for a few days. Believe me, if I only had Komets to concentrate on, there would have been an update already, but right now that has to be kind of low on the list.
I'm working on some preview stuff for the 60th anniversary I think you are going to like, but it takes a ton of time, plus it's football season and tennis season and etc, etc, etc.
And some day I have to get my final few days off in before the season starts. Yeah, that will happen. :)

football and tennis should be covered by some intern so superfan can concentrate on real sports like baseball and hockey.

Bob,you don't seriously think newspapers are still going to be around in 10 years (maybe 5) do you?? Let's assume Fort Wayne newspapers go totally online with paid subscriptions to stay afloat. There wil be no need for a morning and an evening paper, so cut the staff by at least half. With you being low man on the totem pole, the lack of job security would scare me, especially if you have school loans.
Blake, I am looking forward to the preview section. Both you and Justin do a nice job with your respective previews.
I know that they take a lot of time and effort, too. It's just that it has been so long since we have gotten any good news from the Komets. Camps for the AHL are opening, camps for the ECHL open on Monday, I believe. The Komet camp roster seems full, mightbite hints that someone will not report, you have posted the Bonneau signing with Worcester, so it seems like we are getting a lot of negatives now.
Are there any surprises awaiting, or good news to report on players that have not yet been announced? It seems like we have taken a couple of steps backwards in the last few weeks. Thanks in advance.
Also, to respond to JungleMonkey, my age is not 48, but my I.Q. is!
