Tailing the Komets

Awesome game

Al Sims' 55th birthday and he was booted by Referee Bob Langdon with 45.9 left in the second period, pretty obviously for abusive language. Sims had been on Langdon all night to call more penalties, and the ref has thus far chosen not to. With a smaller than normal Memorial Coliseum crowd, you didn't need to be able to read lips to tell what Sims has been saying all night.

The last Komets' coach to receive a game misconduct? Grant Sonier on Dec. 12, 1998. Assistant coach Gerard Gallant received one April 1, 1999.

Incredible pace to this game, and Langdon has let them play. Muskegon has only nine shots on goal through two periods, but it's 0-0. Komets have 24 shots, but so far haven't been able to get a tip or get to a rebound in front of Isaac Reichmuth.

Blake, I know the words Al Sims used to get ejected. Out of respect to your readers and you I can not tell you here. I will be glad to tell you in person. Believe me he bought his ticket. The referee advised me after the game he will not let anyone call him those things. If you take the time to look up the rule the referee is to call a minor penalty on the coach before the game misconduct. All things considered it was a "GREAT" hockey game. I think the fans got their monies worth. GO KOMETS!

i was surprised Langdon, of all officials, didn't follow the letter of the law on this one.
