Tailing the Komets

Awful

Anybody else have anything they want to add to that description of Sunday's game?

I thought so. Me neither, so I've got something else. Komets General Manager David Franke told me he is interested in acquiring forward Greg Koehler from Adirondack, but not for what the Frostbite is asking. Koehler is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound center who has not played this season, but Adirondack retains his rights. Koehler, who becomes a free agent on Jan. 20, scored 16 goals and 40 points in 31 games with Adirondack last year.

One problem is that he is a veteran, meaning if the Komets signed him, they'd have to sit out another veteran each night.

Franke also said defenseman Jason Kean is improving and starting to include more physical activity in his routine. He goes to see the doctor again in a couple of weeks to see the progress of his concussion.

Left wing Brent Rumble has been cleared to play after recovering from a  broken foot, and Franke said he's likely to return to practices this week.

i agree and im too tired to repeat myself so read the comments on justins blog. the ks proved tonight what kind of team they are. enough said.

Maybe we should cut them a little slack in that I just realized that coming into tonight they were 11-3 since Dec. 7 and had given up only 20 goals. That's pretty amazing.

But tonight sure was awful.

Heck, I hope the Komets move on Koehler soon. they could wait another 2 weeks and hope that he doenst sign with Adirondack, or another team doesn't make a move on him.

I have to say the game wasn't all that great tonight for the Komets..although I don't think one person is to blame but I think the Trashers came w/ more heart tonight that's my opinon but I'm sure we will bounce back come Friday GO KOMETS!!!

Poor play. Poor effort. No physical defensive play as the garbage men took the puck to the net several times with no one laying a body on them. How many odd man rushes did we give up tonight. You would think with the effort we had last night against Quad City that we would have been charged up tonight to win another game and get closer to the leaders. We can't keep letting these opportunities get by.

What exactly was the point of playing Worlton tonight? Coach didn't use him wisely again tonight. Should have put him out on the first shift to go after Danny and get the crowd going. He always waits until we are 5-6 goals down before he lets him play. Maybe we should of stuck with Frawley as he has been scoring points for us.

What is with Lance Galbraith. This guy is no leader on or off the ice. He took some really stupid penalites tonight for doing nothing else, as once again, running his mouth. I bet the Frankes love watching him yell at the refs when we are down 6-1 at the end of the 2nd period. It wasn't the ref who beat us tonight. Sack up Lance, stop running your mouth, and play Hockey. That is what you are here for.

The talk around the MC tonight was that the players had a really late and wild night celebrating Chaulks birthday last night and that was part of the reason why they lacked spirit tonight. If this is true, at what point does a coach step up and take some control of this team. I know that they are grown men, but if they are going to act like teenagers, maybe someone needs to reel them in a bit.

Well a few better words good be used then awful but if I were to say them I would never be able to be on here anymore. I guess a positive can be they played like a team and were very consistent (BADDDDDD!!!!) I liked the inflatable doll the Komets had on the bench.....um wait that was our supposed coach who I think the only time he moved was when a puck came at him and he picked it up and tossed it into the crowd. Whats worse was that Danbury wasn't full strength and they didn't have Daigle dressed. Probrably would have been shut-out if he played. Ok a positive Comment was that Danny Stewart played well, St Pierre actually did play well (we will get to that)and there were some players who actually did care even when we were losing bad (Chaulk, Worlton, Gooodwin) ok back to bad now. I think St Pierre should have been pulled have 2 periods. I mean come on give the guy a break. Lets let him get hurt when the game is out of hand. How embarrising for him he had to deal with the joke of defense out there tonight. Let Kurk get some time and give Kevin a break.

A question for all:

What one veteran would you be willing to trade so we can bring in a talented, proven scorer, who would put us in the hunt in the UHL this year?

Yes, tonights game sucked....but I agree with Blake's comment. Hopefully a week of just practices will give them some rest. Go Komets!!!

Couple of comments first:

So much of it being a weak East. Danbury just came in and took a giant dump in our house.

Nice job Komet fans. Give 'ol Stewie a nice reception but overkill. Turn the damn page already. He gets a huge reception, we do nothing. We get a penalty, another warm reception, and we do nothing. Get a point...more cheers. Real nice. Also it was very gracious of our team to allow it. Someone could of stepped up right away and tought our fans still stuck in fantasy land that THIS is your team and THIS TEAM is who you will support (as hard as that is to do these days). Our team is not in Danbury, K-zoo, Europe, or the AHL.

If memory serves me correctly, I recall Komet icon Steve Fletcher coming into our house as a Atlanta Knight in '95. Got that warm reception as anyone would expect and he certainly deserved it. Andy Bezeau didn't take too kindly to it. He let Fletcher know right away this was HIS house now. All this hype over Stewart coming back....and that is all it was. Hype.

Same 'ol Komets. Don't screen, hit, put a body up on someone. Lets leave St. Pierre out to dry. Its disgusting how easy it was to drive the net.
And I agree 100% that when the Komets quit when getting down 3-1, you pull your only player saving this team from being a league doormat. You play Kirk. That was utterly rediculous to leave him in that whole game.

Congrats on that 11-3 mark but that was from December, 2005. Lets work on what we need to do in 2006. You do too much praising for past accomplishments and you end up watching the piss poor game displayed tonight.

As for Koehler...he was playing overseas in Italy. I looked him up weeks ago. Give them whatever they want outside of St Pierre. He is better than ANY player we have on our roster. Gaining someone who scored 42 goals and had 98 points last year would finally be a trade that actually made some sense and NO veteran has shown me they are untouchable to bench time.

I agree that the only veteran that I would in NO WAY WHAT-SO-EVER give up would be St. Pierre. He proves himself daily. I didn't like that he was left in that game. Our coach needs to show SOME emotion. I know they say that he is a veteran coach, and he controls himself, but COME ON. After awhile he needs to get pissed, show some emotion!!!!

It was sad that a lot of potential new fans were in the building with all of the group sales. It would have been a good night to at least try to play the game. Perhaps attrack some new fans? I know that if tonight had been my first hockey game, I wouldn't be planning out the next one.

Puhalski and emotion? You are not allowed to say those in the same sentence! haha! I'm not sure Chief has emotions. I bet he is a great poker player though. I'm not sure if anyone of you have ever coached before but don't ya think a team takes on the personality of their coach? Being down 6-1 and 7-2 you think our boys would show some emotion and maybe send a message that "we don't like getting our tails whipped" but that never happens. Also, Chaulk (our Captain) gets taken out by a knee and nobody even says a word to the guy. That doesn't show much team comradderie (spelling ?) to me.

did anyone see the ad in the paper komets vs. most penalized team in the uhl. it should have read most penalized team vs. wimpiest team in the uhl. WHY,,, did the cardboard cutout behind the bench leave frenchy in, it wasnt frenchys fault danbury had about five 2 on 1"s in the first period. WHY,,, didnt they put worly in when it was 3 or 4 to 1 to stir things up?
the mite game between periods was more exciting!

Scoops you took the words out of my mouth, people need to turn the page and forget about Stewart! He is not on this team anymore, and doesn't deserve a bigger cheer than our team, in our house! He is GONE, GET OVER IT!

I guess the only way to lose after three straight shutout wins, is to get pounded on your own ice. Defense was horrible, but who didn't notice that. I don't even think the almighty Jorde could've prevented what happened last night. If those four shots that hit the post go in we're in a shootout! Trying to find something positive out of last nights game.

Jury is still out, but after two games I like this Summerfield kid. Hopefully he can continue to improve and help the team out. I did find it a bit interesting that the new guy had to try and set things straight with Stewart!

I think the team is improving, but one does wonder after last night. I'd rather they lose like that on the road than at home though.

I definitely had a better night shooting than the K's did. I got some decent pictures from the game.
In response to "chuckitt's" comment about the K's showing what kind of team they really are I wouls like to say that I doubt last night's effort was truly representative of the team. They had a great run in December going 11-3, they posted a UHL record number of shutout minutes in the previous three games. They also played three games in three nights. I'm certainly not one to make excuses, but everyone has a letdown at some point. The K's fought their way back to above .500 hockey, so I think we should cut them a little slack for last night.
Are we going to trash the Colts for losing two games and nearly a third at the end of the season after going 13-0? I'm sure someone will. But then again, I am a Steelers fan so I am hopeful that the Colts have a game Sunday like the Komets had last night.

Check out my new blog at http://www.chadryan.blogspot.com/

I will be showing photos that I shoot of local high, school, college and professional sports. Other newsworthy photos and feature photos will likely get some play.

Danbury actually played the same 3 games in 3 nights and you could even make it 4 in 5 nights. They could of mailed it in with it being a road game, good crowd, and last game of the roadtrip. To me they were flying. Now I won't pretend to be a Harvard scholar but I think you tend to exert less energy when skating around freely without a body on you. I could be way off base though.

As for the Colts comparison, they had nothing significant to play for. They already had their playoff ticket punched. The Komets wouldn't even be in the team photo if the playoffs started today. They have everything to play for.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again...Git rid of Pulhalski PLEASE!!!! I don't believe his system is working anymore and Ft Wayne is becoming the place that scorers and enforcers come to die. I believe he brow beats his players to fit into his mold and if they don't comply they find themselves traded, released or stuck on the 3rd line. I wish he would just let the players play the style that made them successful before coming to Ft Wayne. They say sometimes the team takes on the manuerisms of the coach, and I believe that is exactly the case here. Lackluster behind the bench...lackluster on the ice. How about this....trade pulhalski and a bag of pucks to Hershey for Boudreau. Need someone who can light a fire under these guys butts. Like scoops said there are no 3 in 3 nites excuses cause Danbury played 4 in 5.......

Boudreau is not a "light a fire under the guys" type coach but a players coach. I like the thinking there anyhow. Awesome guy on and off the rink but at this time I think the UHL is beneath him. I like the thought though.
I for one am not reading to throw Pulhalski under the bus just yet but one has to wonder what is left to do. Move some of the captaincy around? Make a huge splash by nabbing Koehler before our competition does? I really have no clue.

Right there is the green light to get rid of one of the verteran defensemen. We gave him away for nothing, lets return him for nothing.

Things seemed to have turned and are going well. i'll take 2 out of 3 last weekend. Adirondack is smart not to deal him to us (in other words price fixing this player). i presume when he becomes a free agent the bidding begins in the UHL? It would be nice to carry an extra player, it seems like the past couple of years injuries have hurt our depth around playoff time, but i don't have to write the check so its easy for me to say that.

Ya scoops I know, was just kind of throwin a name out there. I would just like to see a coach let the players play to their strengths. I would just like to see the guys be able to show some heart and soul without fear of gettin benched. Maybe I dont get enough oxygen up where i like to sit; but the K's just seem scared to be out of position.....

Mon, 01/09/2006 - 8:58pm

How about the Drew Carey look-a-like, Dave Allison.
Bruce Ramsay would bring some toughness to this team and allow the guys to go out and make some plays. Do you think Ramsay would let Jorde and Galbraith play like girls out there? If they didn't play hard and tough, he would kick their butts himself.

Charlie I

Ramsey would be a good coach to have here but there is an Al Sims available. He is an assistant now in the ECHL. Why should we trad for Koehler he would just come here and get hardly any points thanks to the Puhalski offense. Look at Grenville he played here one year couldn't score and went back to the Central. Look at Venedamhe left obviously because he was sick of the system too. There is reasons we can't get big scorers here or they goto the Europe Leagues or Senoir Leagues.

EURO HOCKEY will stay as long as Chef is still in charge of the Komet bench. He lost the team last year when Venedam told him off on the bench during the Rockford playoff series and that made him the THIRD player to do that last season! Why was he getting such little effort out of so many of the returnees earlier this season?

Until things change behind the bench, not much else will. The team will make the palyoffs, largely because many teams in this league give up for financial reasons around this time of the year. It would not be in their best interest to make sure that they do not play Danbury, KKKlanzoo, or the Furbies in the first round!
