Tailing the Komets

Back in the scoring slump

Komets lost 3-1 at Rapid City on Saturday night despite out-shooting the Rush 37-26, including 16-5 in the third period. Fort Wayne is 11-14-3 on the road this season, losing five in a row and getting out-scored 25-5 in those games.

Saturday's loss guaranteed the Komets will have their first losing road record in 10 years. They had won at least 20 road games in six of the previous seven seasons. They also need to win four of their final six home games to reach 20 wins at Memorial Coliseum for the 14th season in a row. They have had only four losing home records in their 59-year history.

The Komets are 2-3-2 over their last seven games, scoring just 17 goals. Their power play has been attrocious, scoring just two times in 29 chances over those games.

Not trying to ruffle ICY but these stats don't lie
Last 8 games
Chaulk -7 only a + once
Dupuis -10 (I said at the start of the year if he was anything more than a 5th or 6th this team was in trouble)
PC -6 and not giving much of anything on offense.

Curd -7 and you can see what his +/- is for the year.

Phillips has also been a major letdown.

But back to my love to hate the vets. I said at the start of the year these pampered old timers would break down with the extended travel in the CHL as the year went on. I said come playoff time we might have a very very tired and aging team. If I am going to take heat when they win because the vets are performing then equal weight should be given as these numbers seem to show they are skating with very heavy legs.

Blake, this is WAY off subject, but the Komets are charging season ticket-holders for 3 PLAYOFF GAMES for NEXT YEAR. I've never heard of a team in any sport doing that... I cut them slack when they did it last year because I realized that they didn't know what league/schedule they would land in, but I'm PO'd that they did it again this year. They remind me of the nfl owners in the way they are forcing this policy. FYI I didn't know if anyone else had the same "issue" guess I'll just have to decide if I will keep the "family's seats (40+ yrs)" or just purchase single game tix when they decide to compete... sorry to vent, D

OK, I buy tickets, but I don't buy season tickets so explain to me why this is a problem? I'm not criticizing, just confused. I don't understand the problem. If they don't have the three playoff games, don't they carry that over to next year's tickets? Isn't that common practice? If they don't do it that way, then no one shows up for the first few playoff games and they lose money on them.

Look at it this way, OTG, they aren't raising ticket prices again. I believe that's three years in a row they haven't raised prices for season tickets. I'll bet there's no other club in the minors that has not. Shoot, I'd bet there's no club ever that won three titles and didn't raise season ticket prices.

Could be wrong though, and I'm sure someone will point that out. I know they didn't raise ticket prices this year or for next year on STH.

OTG, I'm also thinking of giving up season tickets, after franke lied to me about the exchange nights.20+ years STH. Our STH pay more than about anyone else :(

I take my money & go to the Blue Jackets 5 games, go to about 10 Komets games & still have $200 in my pocket :)

I am not renewing for a different reason, having a baby. But I dont think its a big deal to have the playoff tickets in the package. If you are an early bird season ticket holder, you are obligated to buy playloff tickets so what does it matter if its already in the package up front or if you have to write another check at the end of the regular season?

To me thats a silly reason to give up 40 years of season tickets. I am doing so reluctantly, wish I could keep mine. Love the seats and neighbors.

I was wondering how long the subject of season tickets would come up, I got my letter I would guess two weeks ago.

Blake, unless I'm reading your post incorrectly, or getting the meaning wrong, prices went up this season on season tickets, the number of games went down, and of course there's the exchange issue.

Maybe because it's where I sit and I get a senior discount also but I'm pretty sure the price on my tickets went down this year (Early Bird price), and the three playoff games are a gimme no matter what price you're tickets are unless your prices went up because this is the first time they have included any playoff tickets in the package, let alone not charge more for them.

So, what's the problem, because as I see it they have added a benefit for season ticket holders (Early Birds anyway) or am I missing something?

I missed the first period of last night's (Sat.) game. When I got home I listened to both broadcasts, something I frequently do depending on who is broadcasting for the other team. Also caught the interview with David between periods.

Something him and Chase agreed on, the first goal was soft, Boucher blew that one. During the broadcast Rapid City's announcers mentioned that it looked like Boucher was having a rough night, missed a few that he should have had even though they managed not to go in and an easy shot hit the cross pipe because he missed the catch.

Then of course he blew it on their third goal. When a team gets blown out like they did Friday one has to wonder how much responsibility falls to the goalers although they can't be expected to be Superman game in and game out.

If it weren't for the two soft goals lasting the outcome could/would have been different. A least one point, maybe two.

I guess my point is we can be quick to point fingers at defensemen, vets, chemistry, or what ever, but I also think there are times the goalie has to accept responsibility for the loss. Based on the game I heard last night, from the broadcasters for both teams, this is one of them.

Steve, I was thinking along the same lines as you concerning the season tickets. Prices DID go up for this season, but my earlybird prices for next season look to have gone down.

Blake, the Sentinel makes you pay for your own tickets to report on the games for it?? That cant be right.

mightbite, the commitment to get playoff tickets has, AFAIK, always been part of the "Early Bird" package. This year it's the same only they're giving you the first three games as part of a package they lowered the price on.

Hey everyone, it's a good thing!

I'm pretty sure Bake buys tickets for other people sometimes, it's outside of his being there to work. IIRC he as talked about this in the past when we discuss ticket prices.

I feel like I get more for my money buying season tix to the CHL. The games have been better and more entertaining. The IHL2 was boring, I'd be the first one to complain if I were still watching that garbage.

It gets to the point that you just have to accept it as what it is. You either pay it or you don't. Griping about it won't change anything. Don't let yourselves get so worked up over it.

We will buy our STK if we can make payments seeing I am unemployed at this time. I think The Komets will be better next season I'm not writing them off for the playoffs yet. Hope that We can hang around for at least one round. GO KOMETS

Interesting situation on the WEB site. Wonder if Go Daddy would let someone else grab it now or if there is a waiting period. Maybe someone at KK is not reading their email and missed the renewal notice. Grab it up and then sell it back to them for some merchandise....................

No doubt a wise decision mitebite if you know you're going to miss games. I still haven't decided on my wife's ticket for next season.

Stupid GoDaddy.com. Must've been too busy promoting Danica getting 27th place in NASCAR races to give you good warning.
