Backlash update

Good gracious. People who are breaking the law by being in this country skip work to join a rally to demand that people who are in this country illegally be left alone and are fired as a result and then:

Coalition leaders hope that confirming the local reports, which began surfacing Tuesday, will give them a tool to use against companies they accuse of treating illegal immigrants unfairly.

And politicians who are trying to finesse this issue seem shocked -- shocked, I say! -- to find that their constituents are a little peeved over the whole thing. Here's a choice item: "Organizers nationwide are calling on immigrants to skip work and school, buy nothing and sell nothing on May 1." So, they won't be at work or school or buy or sell anything. It would be like, you know, they aren't even here. And on May 1. Know the significance of that date?  Class? Anyone?

It's International Labor Day, of course.
