Tailing the Komets

Better get this figured out

The Komets have showed a recent trend of coming out and scoring the first goal and then letting up the rest of the first period. Then they usually blow a team out in the second period. Don't think they'll be able to pull that off tomorrow against Muskegon.

First five minutes Thursday the Komets led 1-0 and out-shot Bloomington 5-0. Then the next five minutes got out-shot 6-0 and were tied in shots 13-13 after one period. Score was tied as well 2-2.

Sorry, but Bloomington is trying, but the PrairieThunder are not very talented.

Lots of bumping going on but not much hitting, either, and that won't work Friday night, either.

Komets GM David Franke said Pascal Morency could come off IR this week, but the Komets would prefer to leave him on for another week if they can.

Welcome. Actually had barbecued pork which was quite tasty.

Wonder what Daniel Goneau was thinking, fighting in a meaningless game while still recovering from a broken cheekbone. Even the fight fanatics would have to question the wisdom of that one. Goneau went off the ice with his hand checking out his face.

Ks are up 4-2, but I don't think they look too sharp tonight.

Also, second straight night in the UHL that somebody scored on a penalty shot while short-handed.

Well I prefer Goneau put the puck in the net rather than fighting, but boys will be boys I guess. I am sure Bingham was asking him the same question between periods! The fight fanatics are more than likely giving high five's to each other.

Agree with your comment about Goneau's fight... I had to turn down the radio for awhile here at work and when I checked out the stats on the uhl's website it blew my mind. In fact Bob and Robbie were just talking about the same thing... I dont know how the play developed; but thats a classic case where a team mate has to jump in and pull Goneau away or take his place... Go K's......

Blake has Goneau come back after his fight???

Sgriff, none taken...I like a good fight now and then; but its not what keeps me coming back.

goneaus fight was the prime example of what our team lacks right now. someone needed to step up for him and then someone needed to defend frenchy and he actually had to take matters into his own hands. this is a great team but im afraid hockey has evolved into this sisyfied euro crap. if i still played id probably on suspension all the time !! better step it up a notch and be ready for fri night cause they take no prisoners!!

Blake, I've heard that Bob Chase said the Komets are expecting a sell out or very close to it...is this true?!

blake
Thu, 11/23/2006 - 8:01pm

Not in the least.

In fact, I was going to blog on this tomorrow some more. This will be the ultimate proof that the team can't just market to diehard fans. A great game like this, and you would expect a huge crowd but currently they are expecting a smaller crowd than they had tonight.

There are very few groups and no school projects because of the holiday. That's why they have to go after every casual fan they can get their hands on. If ever a particular game should sell itself this is the one, but it's not even coming close.

Yeah, I figured someone just got their infomation wrong along the line somewhere. It really is a shame tho, it SHOULD be rocking tomorrow night

Currently there are fewer tickets out for tomorrow night's game than were sold for tonight's game.

chaser said this morning that it was practically a sellout with only a few tickets remaining......... it should be a sellout or somethings wrong!!!

Us "so-called" fight fanatics...which I will continue to contend that I am not(as the definition of physical play is not fighting)...had our point proven once again tonight. Yes we won. One of our veteran players on the 1st line dropped his gloves and has a fractured cheek-bone? Our Goaltender got a cheapshot. It is not up to us fans to decide how the Komets choose to defend themselves. I am happy they won. I am not going to say the same old thing because it gets tired. I just hope we don't get anyone injured out there. I hope that the team is handling things on the ice the right way.

Was there more than one body-check made by a Komet tonight?

The current 10th forward situation is not working. 3-4 shifts to skate around and contribute next to nothing does nothing for Matt or the team.

I enjoyed the game. Martin Gascon is a stud. JF Labarre is awesome too. Jonathon Goodwin plays hard every shift and is rewarded because of it. They are 3 great players on this team. Put those 3 on the same line and....LOOK OUT!!!

I will now open the floor for my good buddy Scoops to tell you how I am so wrong and how my opinions are the same old thing over and over again.

Actually Chuckitt, I'll beg to differ from this aspect. If he's healthy as he said after the game, why shouldn't Goneau be able to drop them and take care of himself?

To me, that's what a hockey fight should be, in that it came from within the flow of the game, it wasn't two idiots who skate two shifts a game, and, well, it was the heat of the moment.

Now, to be fair to you, I didn't know that at the time of my original post, and maybe you didn't either when you posted your comment. Because I respect your opinion and knowlege, I'm guessing you didn't know he was healthy. But if he feels OK, why should someone else have to step up? After all, he's one of the team leaders, too?

Like you and I have talked many times, that's old school.

Does that make any sense, or am I just talking in circles here? LOL.

Fight fanatics was very poor choice of words on my part, and I apologize. I should have said fight fans instead.

Every point you made was excellent, Hit. I felt the same way. Right now Gascon is the best player on the ice by a mile.

OMG! Did I just type that I actually agreed with everything Hit Somebody said?!?!?!? Somebody check the forecast. Exactly how cold IS it supposed to get tonight? LOL.

Gascon is surely going to get some bigtime chances at a higher level...right? This guy is a playmaker. He skates like a Kelly Miller, but has more natural talent in scoring and setting up his teammates. He is the real deal out there. I think JF is right there too though. Wonder what that new #1 line of Marty, Johnny, and JF would do? I bet light the lamp several times a night. They are fun to watch that is for sure. The #3 line is definitely worth the price of admission. Great job guys, you too Goody.

Thats the nice thing about this team, we dont actually have to worry about numbering our lines... We are getting balanced scoring from all three lines and that is a huge step up from years past... Opposing teams are gonna have to expend alot of energy trying to defend all three K's lines and that can only work to our advantage...

blake
Thu, 11/23/2006 - 8:49pm

I don't mess with lines at all. The Richardson, Goneau and Goodwin line is about ready to bust out with a three-goal night. My only question is where do you put Pascal, because you know he has to come back to the lineup.

Thu, 11/23/2006 - 8:55pm

I think Bozo when healthy goes back to defense...and Mornecy, Hukalo, and Voorhees either take turns as the 10th guy or just pick one of them and stick to it.

Pascal should be put back on his line where he was before his injury with Gascon and Labarre. Huck is doing good as a fill-in on that line, but that is Pascal's line. He'll do even better once he gets back. He adds that certain spark to that line and we can't do without by taking turns.
