Bob Chase has surgery

Bob had knee replacement surgery today and everything went fine. He's hoping to be home in a few days to start preparing for the season and to finish off his book which we hope to have out around Christmas. He was already doing some rehab stuff a couple of hours after he got to his room, and now he's watching the Olympics.

Here's a question for you: How can the Central Hockey League which has a lower salary cap than the IHL keep affording to sign major stars away from this league? Not an accusation, just a question, but you have to wonder what the depth is like on those teams. I believe the CHL salary cap is $1,500-$2,000 lower per week than the IHL.

Let's face it the ECHL and CHL have moved ahead in minor league hockey. We can talk all we want about cost, but those two leagues stay alive. Sure they loose teams for financial reasons, but they always seem to have a replacement ready. The IHL has lost some good talent from last year and I think the IHL is facing a "perception" problem mostly because the 6 team league as not an attractive league when you can claim to have a direct affliation with an NHL club like the ECHL and CHL have. The IHL will have problems expanding

Players care No. 1 about where the money is; and No. 2 about where the money is. That's all they care about. Does anyone really think they'd prefer bus rides all across the country for any other reason?

You may be a point Toe, but I'd rather watch last year's brand of hockey any day over what we saw the five years before that.

All the best to chaser.......

They cheat the cap.

i agree with Blake on #1 and #2.

Also i really enjoyed the IHL last year and look forward to our little 6 team league again this year.

Blake,

I have always wondered if getting to play in a warmer climate is one of the reasons some players go to the CHL. Plus I've noticed that some of the newer venues in the CHL look like some really nice buildings.....they may be smaller than say, the MC.

And some of those communities do have good schools for the kids. I think it's more than just the money, especially if the salary cap is less than the IHL cap.

Best wishes to Chaser....Get Well soon!

My very best wishes for Bob Chase. I hear the Colts still need a kicker!

The guys who have left the IHL for the most part are guys who do not like to be hit. They liked to campout on the corners of the nets. They are older players for the most part who want to get into coaching. Several signed as assist coaches. If you take the time to check it out you will see an equal number have signed in the IHL. I do not know what the problem is in Kazoo. It must be the GM or Nick (cry me a tear) Bootland they do not want to play for. The fans there are great, the building is nice and the concessions the best.
