Until Bruce can skate faster or score more goals than Ovie, its a easy decision.

The way Ovie is going this year, Bruce in his prime would score twice as many.
The problem the Caps are going to have now is keeping Ovie happy.
He is a waste of a uniform if he is gong to do it his way all the time.
I don't care how much talent or how much more money he makes than the coach. This type of behaviour from Ovie and Semin is a cancer that is hard to cure.

Not arguing that point at all. Washington ownership will continue to let themselves be held hostage by these guys though.

I applaud Bruce for sticking to his guns, but its always been clear that Ovie will get what he wants in DC.

Dan Bylsma, for better or worse at least keeps his head up Sid's backside to make sure he's always happy. Job security I suppose.

Bylsma has a good bunch of guys that played hard and stayed focused until Crosby got back.
And remember this Pittsburgh team has won a Stanley Cup.
That buys Dan a few creds.
I have watched both the Caps and Pens a lot this year. They are so far to each end of the spectrum at this point. Hunter will have a difficult time getting that team back this season.
As they say you can't go out on the ice and do it for them.
Ovie by the way 3 points and -6 in the last 8 games.
Do you think he wanted to see a coaching change? Then I see on our local Sports Network that he was shocked to see the coach fired. Give me a break.

taus.. RK was implying that you might be a blogger that used to post here by the name brian. brian mentioned in his post that he skated with the komets quite often and actually played hockey at a competitive level. he and brian had a difference of opinions on several occasions. good thing you didnt imply that you've actually played the game because you would have been crucified on this blog.
goaltending and defense was bruce's killer. winning the cup is very special because it takes an entire team to buy into a coaches system. when you have a few superstars making 3 times more than the coach and decide they dont want to buy into the system , failure is destined. boudreau is a good coach, im sure he will take this as a learning experience and take his abilities to another level with a different team, just as he did with the komets after he was fired.

Off, funny part I did play for 17 years, most of it in goal which explains a lot to most people :)

Totally agree with what you wrote, the team has to buy into the system to be successful. I've never seen 1-2 players or even 10 take a team to a championship.

Odd, for being a relative newcomer to the blog Off the Post sure seems to know a lot of the history here. Must have been tough reading and not commenting all those years.

actually jungle monkey.. i've been reading this blog for years . i just refrained from posting by choice . just as its my choice to post as of late. im a hockey junkie and enjoy furthering my hockey knowledge with some of the information that blake post here from time to time. unfortunately i started posting after i seen some post i strongly disagreed with. i prefer to read and learn (which i think a few bloggers here should do!) but i do appreciate your concern and observation.

Glad I wasn't the only one who caught the slip-up, JM.

There are literally thousands of people who read the blog each week but don't post. I probably get 50 emails a week from those folks.

slip up? slip up on what? to be real honest.. it's your type of post is why i refrained from posting here. it's continually the same few posters here that take the fun out of this blog. it was nice to see a blogger such as taus that actually had an intelligent post and actually had some knowledge of the game. need more posters like taus.

It doesn't make me anything more than observant, RK.

The pattern shows itself over and over.

I've read the blog since Blake started it and have posted on occasion. Why is someone considered "slipping up" if they chose not to comment on every topic that's discussed. As Harbaz stated, a lot of the topics turn into COHL/UHL/IHL/IHL2 as well as the negative observations about the Komets. This is why I posted what I did, it didn't make any sense.

I don't understand the fear of posting based on someone having a differing opinion.

I don't know, maybe they just don't want the aggravation. Maybe it's a generational thing. Sometimes it's kids. There are probably lots of reasons.

Maybe they don't feel the need to comment on everything or engage in debate. Maybe they don't think a blog is all that important in their daily lives. Maybe they have daily lives! LOL. Maybe they just take my word as established expert opinion and they're good with that. :)

JM, with all due respect, I don't think it's a "fear of posting". For me anyways, it's more of 'Why waste my time posting when a handful of regulars on the blog will just beat up my post and tell me I'm wrong for my opinion?' I can't tell you how many times I've started a post and then just deleted it because I decided it wasn't worth my time and frustration to argue back and forth with someone over something completely stupid. To be really honest, lately, I've almost gotten to the point where I don't even want to READ the blog because I know a lot of it gets turned into one of the following topics:

1) The Frankes suck as owners, are only money hungry and think of themselves and not what the fans want,
2) We should be in the XYZHL for whatever reason,
3) so and so makes mistakes all the time and is only on the team because daddy has money, and it's his fault we lost,
4) we need an 'enforcer' that will take care of the heavyweights in the league.

I can go on and on but I really don't have the time to list everything. On a final note I will say this...I love the Komets and have for the better part of 25 years and will continue to support them no matter how good or bad they are or what league they are in. For me, as I've gotten older, it just boils down to the fact that I have way more important things to tend to in life. I'm not saying that condescendingly, I just have priorities and other responsibilities more important than writing about every person's comment on a blog. However, if there is something that I am very interested in or feel very passionately about, then perhaps I'll make a comment. In this case I was interested about Boudreau because I remember watching him play here when I was a kid and coach here when I was young man.

I post without regard to people liking my opinion. It's an opinion. If people don't agree they have that right. I'm happy to be an American. If people go on and on telling me something that I don't believe, I can have a debate with them or simply ignore them. I guess I'm just not capable of having the same mindset as others. I think that some people want positive re-enforcement when they post. I assume that somebody is going to engage me in a debate because I often don't have the popular opinion. I guess if your feelings get hurt here, maybe its best that you don't post.

It just seems that a lot of people say they don't post here often as if they are bullied, I simply don't see that as being the case.
