Tailing the Komets

Bunch of injury updates

The Komets have placed Brad MacMillan on 30-day IR with his shoulder injury which he re-injured last week during practice. He'll be eligible the last week of the regular season. Tim Haun is also being shut down for the week with what appear to be concussion problems, and the Komets are looking to sign a goaltender who can come in and play if necessary. Leo Thomas will be back in the lineup on Thursday and Mitch Woods is 50-50 to play Thursday after suffering a Charley horse on Friday.

``The main thing with Mac is he's a physical type player and he can't go out and play if his shoulder is at 80 percent,'' Komets General Manager David Franke said. ``If he's going to reinjure it falling over the blueline, he can't play, and we're better off to shut him down. He probably won't practice all week to give him time to heal and work on this strengthening and let him get on the ice maybe next week.''

Haun is going to see Dr. James Stevens, a concussion specialist in town, tomorrow. He's been getting headaches after exerting himself. Haun is not going on IR. He first suffered the injury March 20 against Muskegon.

As for the alleged incident in Flint between Nick Boucher and a fan reported by Brendan Savage in the Flint Journal, http://www.mlive.com/generals/index.ssf/2010/03/after_blowing_three-goal_lead.html, IHL Vice President of Hockey Operations Brad Jones said he's not sure how serious the incident is. He and commissioner Dennis Hextall were both at the game. Jones said there are often accusations from fans that players step over the line and it usually turns into a ``he said, he said'' hearsay type of thing. None of the officials saw anything, either.

``What Al told me was pretty vague,'' Franke said. "I don't anticipate any problems coming out of this. I think it was more the fans have very easy access to our team bench to taunt and yell and throw stuff at our players in Flint. I think it was between Nick and a couple of fans. When he got pulled there was some verbal sparring going back and forth. I don't really know enough about it to say one way to the other.''

I think not having Mac in the lineup is going to hurt the club down the stretch as well as Haun if this a more significant problem with the concussion. I think they have missed Mac's presence in the lineup. I say sign Leg's even it is for the next couple of weeks, who knows Mac's shoulder may never heal enough for him to come back and play.

Franke also said the Komets are not looking to bring in any other players at this time.

``If Leo wasn't going to come back and if Woodsy wasn't real close, then we'd look at bringing another forward in to help out,'' Franke said. ``Now that we're in a goalie squeeze here, that extra spot will have to go to a goalie. I want to bring a guy in to who can go full-time and who will be available to play if we need him.''

Is Parris Duffus available? I know he has a full-time job, but I wonder if he could get vacation and make himself there. He's a good guy, and a great goalie.

I am just thankful that no one has a broken collarbone, that would surely land someone on the IR for more than 14 days I am sure.....LOL

Tyler Sims, Tyler....Sims...........Your father needs you to report to the Fort Wayne Komets......

Franke's comments makes me worried that Haun is hurt worse than they are letting on. They are looking to fill the open roster spot with someone that can play goalie fulltime???

Ouch.

Hope Haun doesn't have a broken collarbone too. LOL

HA HA HA HA HA HA. :)

We will never know the truth now will we?

Does David Franke wink when he says these things? Everyone thought that the MacMillan injury was much more serious than reported in the beginning. Now it appears to be true. Hopefully Haun can pull through and get back on track, that explains why Nick played 3 games over the weekend. And maybe it makes Sims' "confindece" in putting Boucher back in the Flint game look a little questionable. It would appear he might not have had a choice. Woods being back isn't really relevant. Just glad to have the leading goalscorer coming back.

Great Post.....but you should have put in the "Jim Rome" break in between your thoughts...."allegedly"

I know this is the game that they play with injuries because they don't like to let their opponents know these things or whatever the reason is today.....not sure, but broken collarbone or not, it sucks that Brad is out for any time at all because he is a big part of this team and helps make them go.....Leo coming back is needed, makes the team have 3 solid lines.....Haun out, that worries me alot. He has been the MVP this year. It is a nice luxury having him and Boucher. Hope Boucher doesn't get suspended, then we are sunk.

Yeah he's going to share everything with fans so the other teams can read all about the injuries. Watch hockey much?

I'm glad that Leo Thomas will be back in the line-up on Thursday. He is needed. I'm not surprised that Mac is now on the 30 day IR. I've seen plenty of shoulder injuries that, just when you think you are on the mend, something happens and your back to square one. I think that he needs to be given the time needed to heal the injury properly.

I'm concerned about Haun. Blake posted that this injury occurred on March. 20, and now 10 days later he is going to see a doctor. I'm sure we all can agree that concussions and concussion problems are nasty. I can understand why the Frankes would like to bring in a goalie who can play full time. They have no idea what this doctor is going to say regarding Haun, and it's better to be safe than sorry. Haun needs to sit until this is completely taken care of.

I hope when game time comes Thursday night, the Komets are rested, focused, and ready to win.
