Tailing the Komets

Campbell is not coming

He is not going to come, according to General Manager David Franke, for two reasons. There is an undisclosed injury that would have kept him out of the first three games anyway, and his wife had surgery on Monday and he'd prefer to stay with her.

Because he did not sign, the UHL is rescinding the Komets' pick and they will keep David Frawley. Campbell will be a free agent going into next season.

Now for my thoughts on this. I don't think they were overpromising, it just didn't work out. I truly believe that on Tuesday they thought he was coming, and I think he wanted to come initially. I know for a fact that he has a small injury and his wife did have surgery this week. Life happens. The way I look at it, they took a chance on Campbell that they weren't going to take on anyone else with another pick. If there was someone else, they had three other picks to take them. It was worth a gamble, and nothing is hurt by him deciding not to come.

Knowing Eddie as I do, he was not trying to deceive anyone, either. I'm betting his wife asked him to stay, and who can argue with that? Would any of you married guys dare? LOL.

The Komets will be fine. So Troy Neumeier, Ryan Jorde, Rob Guinn and Guy Dupuis play four minutes extra per game than the two they were already going to go. Neumy and Guinn are used to playing 35 minutes in the playoffs anyway, and I'm sure Guy is as well. I still think P.C. is the biggest key to this playoff run anyway.

How about that great Luke Sellars that people were gnashing their teeth over. What a steal he was, huh?

Didn't Danbury do the same thing with him that they did with Eddie?? Hey Blake what about a Littlejohn now? Had to take that shot Blake just like the Sellars shot

That was my point, David. Maybe, just maybe, the Komets knew what they were doing with him.

So his wife had surgery Monday. He "alegedly" tells Franke he's coming, then all of the sudden is injured and must stay with his wife? Anyone else draw out this timeline on a piece of paper? Seems like someone is full of crap.

What ever the case or situation was or is the Franke were not going tell everyone he may not come...Ok Blake I agree with you about Sellars yes maybe they knew more about him than the common fan. My question is, shouldn't Danbury informed potential takers that "Campbell" had an injury or was it buyer beware? For most this draft is for the "rights" to a player for next season so using it to pick up someone for a playoff run is really not the reason they have it. Now, how about Frawley and how he must feel knowing that he was odd man out? I know that is professional sports, but that is where the "internet" and online listings discloses something that Franke's more than likely did not want disclosed because they more than likely did not want to tell Frawley...That had to be an awkward situation..your let go...oh no just kidding we love you man...

The league is looking into it. His wife did have surgery on Monday. I checked it out with some friends of his who knew it before all this went down.

My guess is that Danbury is going to have the crap kicked out of it soon by the league for all of this kind of stuff. Did you guys see how many guys they had to get rid of yesterday. Where in the heck are they hiding all those bodies on a 19-man roster? No jokes please.

A little off topic but this is about situation about Flint..what I found interesting is the Commish's comments in terms of "Tough Hockey in Flint" Even thinking of changing their colors to Black and Silver. This is about their claiming Jon Mirstay (Sp) a big time tough guy who played for Danbury last year and is in the LNAH

Well, not exactly. We claimed his rights from the UHL waiver draft. Now, I know there is no chance he will come here and play next season, but I just can't help imagine the scenario. We just had our big press conference yesterday annoucing all the big changes to the team in order to give the team a new face, and restore the fan following. One of things mentioned at the press conference was bringing tough, old time hockey back to Flint. Even UHL commisioner Richard Brosal said, Flint needs tough hockey, bring it back!

With all the new marketing and advertising for next season designed around having tough hockey, could you imagine throwing Mirasty int the mix? It would be the ultimate addition to this team. Coach Reynolds has a couple spots locked up for players in Rochester's AHL camp, he could guarantee Jon a tryout there as incentive to sign here, and if/when he got cut, he could come back to Flint and kick some serious ass. If Mirasty was a General, he would be carrying on a proud tradition of tough hockey in this town, 39 years of it. And with out question, he would be a god in this city!

In closing I know that Jon likes it, and belongs in the LNAH. But I just couldn't help thinking of the possibilities, with him added to the mix, the excitment for next season

I dont think Mirasty can play in the UHL next season, for the same reasons that Mark Smith can't sign with the Komets for the playoffs or next season...

I knew it. I friggin' knew it! When I heard Campbell was released and we got him I had reserved thoughts about it. Then when I seen the junk being claimed vs. Campbell, I was puzzled. Now it all makes sense. Based on how this season has been, its par for the course I suppose. Next up, Berkebile doing all the Komet games. Makes sense.

Yeah it sucks. But I have confidence in the boys that got us to the playoffs. If you would have told me in November we would have made the playoffs I probably would have laughed. Granted, we lost our big stick with Chaulk, but I hope we can overcome.

Yeah through all of this if I was Frawley I would feel like crap. However, maybe something like this will motivate him... show the Komet organization how wrong they were to try to get rid of him... On a side note, what is the point of a waiver draft if most of the players never report?

You think this has never happened to guys like Frawley...the third line players?

I'm sure it was disappointing to know that but I would think the motivation he has should come from all the times he's been a healthy scratch or the 10th forward and got 1 shift.

I doubt if he has ever felt secure with his job while here.

He's a third line player always fighting to stick it out. Nothing new here.

And no, I'm not bashing Frawley. He's a pretty decent player - one that if given a shot because of injuries may score a big goal in the playoffs.

P.S. Who thinks QC can upset Danbury? I think there's a good chance. Especially if Tapp gets on a roll. Watch - Daigle will be the goat at some point in the playoffs.

I'm not sure QC will beat Danbury. In fact I think They just might win the cup.

As for Frawley, the only thing that gets me is why weren't the Frankes up front with him to say that he might be odd man out IF the person they pick up in the waiver draft reports. At least he could see it coming and then if they don't he knows he's still on the playoff roster?

Why tell a guy he's the odd man out IF something happens. You might as well do that all year long. "David, if we find a better player on the free agent market who is better than you then we will let you go. Just be ready for that, OK?"

This stuff only happens because the internet allows more info than ever to get out there. Really, no one needed to know about any of this until it was done.

Just another example of people speculating about things without knowing all the facts.

If any player thinks the Frankes aren't up front enough with them then they need to go play in Port Huron or Flint or Missouri or Adirondack or Elmira or, should I stop?

Greg

But in this case your dealing with a third party, namely the U, which is putting this information out there. During the season it's all up to the club. That's why I figured the Frankes would want to let whomever they plan to cut know this is what might happen but if not we do want to keep you.

How do you know they didn't tell him upfront that he would be cut if Campbell showed?
