Tailing the Komets

Chaulk is out for playoffs

The Komets will go into the playoffs without Colin Chaulk who has a tear in his Achilles tendon that will require four to six weeks to heal. He was left off the playoff roster in a unable to perform category so the Komets will retain his rights. The injury will not require surgery.

Komets General Manager David Franke said the team plans to be active in Tuesday's waiver wire draft.

Bad news for sure but I kind of figured it would be a reach so I am not shocked. I would not want to see him put his career in jeopardy. Still need the guys picking up the slack in his absense and knocking bodies around. Its still going to be a tall order to get by the first round but we can do it.

Not shocked either. he was hinting this in lots of his comments...The Frankes spinned this one for sure, but they kinda had to. Hope we can go on without him. Would have been nice to have had that extra Veteran sometime 2-3 months ago. Oh well, can't worry about that now. Go get em guys.

Frankes were trying and are still trying to pick up somebody through waivers. They were hiding the info because they didn't want somebody below them to pick off someone they were trying to get through waivers. Didn't work.

Jeff Antonovich is available since K-zoo dropped him today. I really hope we don't pick him up. Also, won't Danbury have to drop a vet for them to get to 19 on their playoff roster? They have like 10 vets on that team I think. Blake, you don't know who other teams have dropped do you?

One more comment.. I was just looking at the K's roster and even with Chaulk not on the playoff roster I still count 20 guys total. Can we put a guy on "Team Suspension" for the playoffs and activate him if need be or what? I count 2 goalies, 7 defensemen, and 11 forwards. I wonder who else they cut and who they will cut if they get a guy off waivers?

You can put players on IR. League won't announced playoff rosters until tomorrow so no, I don't know who was let go. There are serveral teams that are going to have to let 2-3 quality players go.

Blake, I read on the Komets website that they are using an amatuer spot on Jamie Milam. I thought since he was signed to a regular contract they couldn't do that. If they are able to do this since they wouldn't have to drop anyone unless they picked someone up today in the waiver draft at 4 o'clock.

Since Jamie and Jeremy Koning were signed out of college this season, they do not count against the roster.

Sorry to hear about the Achilles Colin!
I've enjoyed watching you play the past few seasons, but particularly this year - you are the heart and soul of this team. If you didn't know already, hopefully you found out from all the fans who got your autograph Saturday. Now, it's up to the rest of the guys to pick up the slack - judging by how they played against Muskegon and Kalamazoo, I hope they will rise to the challenge.

For Blake - if the Komets pick an acting captain or a third alternate captain, who would you like to see or who is deserving of it? If it were me, I would pick either Guy Dupuis or Jonathan Goodwin.

Keep up the great work!

There are a ton of good choices including those two. Luciuk, Guinn, Miller. There are plenty of options except for Neumeier (asst. coach) and Frenchy (goaltender). They aren't allowed to be capt.

Give it to Guinn LOL that would upset a lot of people

Pick Goodwin, Miller, or Guinn, since Heather mentioned it. I guess.

I don't really care if Guinn is or not I just want to see people get ticked off. All of those Guinn haters out there you know who you are LOL.

Blake,
Your response to my question on a new captain or alternate captain brings up another thought - if a goaltender can't be a captain or alternate, how was Danbury allowed to have a goaltender (I think it was Stirling) be an alternate all year?

I know this is a rule in the NHL - Bill Durnan of the Canadiens in the late 1940s-early 50s was the last goalie to wear the "C".

Thanks for the reply!

I believe they have changed the rule, or at the very least it has become tradition that the goaltender is not the captain. Plus almost all the leagues follow NHL rules.

Luciuk should become a temporary capt. I think that he is most level headed when dealing with officials and has the experience to motivate the guys.

I see your point JM, but if they need motivation now... enough said.
