I am glad he made this decision early enough in the summer so the Komets can spend their time and money finding players who want to play here.
Thank you Colin for your efforts and play while you were here.
This chapter in Komets history is closed. Time to move on....

Best of Luck Colin. You will be dearly missed.

Rick

I am very disappointed that it has come to this. I will miss seeing Colin in a K's sweater. I don't think we will miss him totally too long though. I think the plan is one year in Europe to make some good money for one year while the Komets' rights to him expire, then finish his career playing for Mark Reeds as a Kzoo Wing beginning with the 2007-08 season.

TONY E

I wonder if Fort Wayne is considered a base metal or a composite? Alloys???

I guess you can't blame Chaulk for wanting one more big paycheck before his career closes out. Rick makes sense with his theory as long as that rule regarding players going to Europe and coming back (like Mark Smith) doesn't apply here.

Greg
Thu, 07/06/2006 - 8:43am

Tony E. I think that rule only applies if you start hte season in the UHL and leave for Europe. Then you can't play for the rest of that year and the next.

But, your right that Rick brings up a good point. Does Chaulks original contract still count and his rights remain with the Komets for the entire year?

Jason

I actually figured I would come on here and see people in an uproar over the Frankes "screwing" Chaulk. I am pleasantly surprised although I am sure some will come on here and want to blame the Frankes, just like for everything else.

Personally, I have no problem with this. He had a great run of four years here and he was, in my opinion, the best player we have had here since joining the UHL. While some probably think we will not be able to replace Chaulk, the beauty of minor league hockey is that there are always new guys out there who are just as good, if not better, just waiting for the opportunity to shine or lead a team.

I have no doubt in my mind that the Komets are going to be in the top 2 teams in the league this year and will be there in the end. The reason is because the Frankes were embarrassed by last season (which really wasnt a terrible year by any means), and they are refocusing all of their efforts into making the Komets a champion again. You can tell how bad they want to win again.

I am excited about the upcoming year.

Well said Jason.

BUt just wait, the moaning, and complaining, and Franke bashing will probably happen.

Would all of you be against a Mark Smith return? I know he left the team when they needed him. But he did put goals n the board. I am not saying I would or would not bring him back, just a thought.

Greg
Thu, 07/06/2006 - 9:07am

I wouldn't be against it, but it's a moot point. He's not allowed back until the 07-08 season.

Thu, 07/06/2006 - 9:08am

Ditto Jason, well said.

I hate to see everyone go, but the thought of a new coach and retooled team are very exciting, should make for an exciting year.

All i want to happen next year is beat martinson and the pigs to a pulp every game, make the playoffs and win the cup.

Smith abandoned the team and the fans. If you give your word and sign a contract and commit to play you should stay. If he was going to go to Europe he should have in the first place, i look at it as though he took the komet paycheck until the bigger one was available then bolted.

Boy, this hurts right now, Chaulker was by far my favorite player. He will be missed by me..Good Luck Chaulker...

As Jason said, it will be a new era of Fort Wayne Komet hockey..This has got me excited..

GO KOMETS

I agree Burgee. But what do people do in the "real" workplace all the time....they work at a place..get a better offer and bolt. I know there was a contract signed and all but the K's could've traded him or cut him at anytime. So the contract doesn't mean much. I do not agree with what he did but money drives people...
Greg,
I forgot about that

This is a VERY sad day for me. Chaulker was by far my favorite player since I've returned to the Fort. I will miss him tremendously. He played his heart out for this organization while he was here and made a great impact on the community, too. He will be sorely missed. Best wishes, Chaulker!

I cant believe this MAN! This was MY favorite komet. Lots of bad things have started to happen ever since Coach Puhalski went to Chicago. My friend told me that he can come back since Franke tore up his contract and offered him a smaller salary price. This is why they are talking to St. Piere now since they have more money left over.

MAN!!!Less pay and no commitment drove him away.

Thu, 07/06/2006 - 10:30am

I am not happy that Colin left, however I do understand why he left and I kind of understand why the team "let him go". This will truly be the New Look Komets this next season. Monday will not get here fast enough, I am tired of hearing who is not coming back, I want to start to hear who is going to be here in 06-07!!!

Kometfan
Thu, 07/06/2006 - 10:34am

Or they are talking to St. Pierre now because Michel Robinson signed with Italy?!

Sucks to see Colin gone, but everyone has to admit that a lot of us knew this would happen. With the hard cap occuring and Duhart coming in, I can see why Colin wants to play in Italy. Best of luck!

TONY E

Hobo commitment works both ways. Chaulk actions show he was after the paycheck instead of being commited to seeing this team get better. That is his choice and it is a choice many people in all walks of life make everyday. But don't make it out like he was this poor wronged player who got screwed over by management because that isn't the way the Frankes do business.
