Chaulk suspended for Wednesday's game

The IHL has suspended Komets center Colin Chaulk one game for leaving the bench during an altercation. Komets are going with Justin Hodgman centering Luciano Aquino and Mitch Woods. Coach Al Sims also said the starting goaltender for Wednesday will be a game-time decision.

``The league did what they had to do, and now everybody knows for next time,'' Chaulk said.

Here's the situation with Colin that everyone has been hinting at: His newborn daughter Caprie had to have stomach surgery late Sunday afternoon because the food was not emptying into her intestine. That's why Colin arrived late for the game Sunday night. Doctors believe the surgery was a success and there's a chance the baby might be able to go home today.

``As far as the suspension, it has nothing to do with my decision-making or anything,'' he said. ``If I had gotten to the game at 3:30 p.m. because I couldn't sleep and I was so excited to play, I would have done the same thing. I've been in enough playoff games and played enough hockey to know when to go and talk to the ref, obviuosly. I'll learn from this mistake. Next time if there's any kind of pushing and shoving or anything I'll stay on the bench until the ref gets to the circle.''

As you can imagine, this has been an incredibly stressful time for the Chaulk family. Colin will not be making the trip with the team to Muskegon to take care of his family.
