Tailing the Komets

CHL response

This is from CHL Director of Hockey Operations Jim Wiley:

“It was determined after extensive review that Mr. Reaney did not target the head nor was primary contact made to the head.  Mr. Reaney was given a major penalty by the on-ice official and no further disciplinary action was deemed necessary that would result in the player missing any game time.  Mr. Reaney was fined and put on notice for the dangerous hit.”

Hilarious. He was also warned about his attitude and was told his tv privilages would be revoked if he continued to behave poorly.

Mr. Wiley has directed the officials to be very loud, direct, and stern when counting to 3 out loud when Rapid City players engage in activity that would normally be punished with a penalty.

Furthermore, Mr. Wiley under the leadership of the CHL competition committee has award 2 pre-game goals the the Rush in advance of Wednesday nights game. Thus, the scoreboard will read Rush 2 Komets 0 at the beginning of play.

Any further request from the media can be directed to Jerry "the King" Lawler or Vincent K. McMahon.

"Put on notice"?! What did they do, slap the back of his hand and tell him he's a bad boy and not to do it again? Sheesh... I'd say what I really think but my mom reads this blog...

Hey I got a idea. Let's play the game and see what happens. There is nothing anyone can do about the suspension so let's quit complaining and hit the ice. May the best team win.

All I'm saying is let's play the game and see where the puck stops. Two very good teams on the ice that play good hockey. Let's drop the puck and see what happens. If the season ends it wasn't meant to be for the Komets.

Buy up those tickets! Come see the brawl!

In the mean time, I'll be photographing game action because there aren't going to be any fights. Well, maybe one, and Schrocky will handle someone bigger than him ... as usual. Sure, some guys may get chippy, but I really don't see it happening. BTW ... I'm not knocking them. They need to play smart, and the CHL is going to jump on anyone starting crap over this OC-Reaney situation.

No, this team needs everybody and can't afford to loose anyone else to suspensions or match penalties. Sure I think the K's will come out hitting hard, but that's because they must in order to get back in this series.

I like the physical stuff as much as anybody. It makes for great pictures, but it's more important to win tomorrow than to try to send a message or go out with a bang.

Oh, and with much objectivity, I can say I believe this whole suspension/no suspension thing the CHL is pulling is a big-time load.

geez ... they can't afford to lose anybody, not loose. See you tomorrow. Hoping to see you all Friday. Back to work.

You do realize that this upcoming game will be under an microscrope by the CHL. My guess is if anything blatant or even questionable hit, that player will be punished severely by the CHL.

Or knowing the CHL's track record this season, they'd get nothing at all.....

Did the CHL respond as to why specifically OConnor was suspended?

Blindside, lateral, head shot, what? I'm curious now especially after seeing the quote I posted from Colin Campbell pertaining to a very similar check...

One simple question.... If he did not target the head and no suspension was required, what was the fine for?

dan
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 2:43pm

Ok people. I have felt since the hit happened nothing should happen to OC. Ref was correct. It was a clean hit. Never touched his head. RC players and coaches are the biggest whinners I have ever seen. They act like little children not getting their way. Having said that, we are starting to sound like them. What happened is pure BS but it's over. Let's put it behind us and go thump them like the cry babies they are. Go Komets. Ks in huge upset win in 5 games...

Steve

Simple Snuff, the CHL waits for a doctor's report to determine what supplemental action should be taken. A broken nose and dizziness is worth an undisclosed fine but not suspension.

Mr. Snufflupugus
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 3:18pm

Well...if that was the case you could have fines after quite a few fights that take place.
I don't buy into any of the conspiracy theories but I will be happy to agree to with the thinking that those in charge of suspensions in the CHL are as inept as every other pro league.

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head

JR
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 3:42pm

Steven, can you then explain how the NHLs discipline czar interprets this rule differently? Its thier rule, btw....

In one of those still shots your fans are pointing to it shows Meneis body facing OConnor in the picture; but his head is looking right............ Is it lateral because Menei was looking the other way?

So wait, was he not put on notice for dangerous hits earlier this year when he got suspended for one? This league is a joke, but tomorrow is going to be must see. I am hoping for a win, but it could get very ugly. I have never said this before in my life, but if they think we are gooning it up, we may as well do it on a big scale. If you are going to go out, go out with a bang. Make it that much easier for the Eagles to take out the Rush.

Markymark
Tue, 04/19/2011 - 9:12pm

Suck it up Ft. Wayne. The Rush have controlled you this year the the few match-ups we've had. You have a couple of guys that are pure thugs and now you have a team that does not put up with it and can return the favor when necessary. Let's play hockey - this could end up being a great series once both teams get down to the skilled type of play they are both capable of.

Tue, 04/19/2011 - 9:17pm

Ft. Wayne - You led the Turner conference with 1352 penalty minutes for the 2010/11 season. Who are the trouble makers? Just sayin.

I love all the "goon it up" talk. Like Sims would ever consider such a thing.
