Clerk's race and District 1

When the city election candidates came for their editorial board interviews, I sat down with them afterwards to shoot short videos. It's nothing fancy, just the candidates sitting in the room where we interviewed them, answering five questions each. We shared the questions with the candidates at the start of the interview, so the answers they gave were based on having known the questions for half an hour to 45 minutes. I edited the videos so that instead of just seeing one candidate after another, you can see them in their individual races, each answering each question in turn. Otherwise, there was no editing of the remarks -- what they said is what you hear. They were told that about a minute would be good for each answer, but the time wasn't really dictated. They spoke as briefly or as at length as they chose. These videos aren't meant to be a comprehensive look at the candidates or their positions. But I hope they do convey a sense of who they are and how they think on their feet.

I'll be linking to the videos here this week, and there will be links to them elsewhere on our website. Today's links are the City Clerk's race between incumbent Democrat Sandy Kennedy and Republican challenger Zack Bonahoom and the Disstrict 1 City Council race between incumbent Republican Tom Smith and Democratic challenger Steve Shaffer.
