Tailing the Komets

Coliseum tra

The Allen County War Memorial Coliseum would like to issue the following traffic advisory, for multiple events taking place at the complex on Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26.

O        Due to large crowds expected for the Fort Wayne Komets games and the Thunderslam Monster Truck events on Friday and Saturday nights, traffic congestion on Coliseum Boulevard and Parnell Avenue is likely, before the events start both nights.

O        The Komets game starts at 8:00 p.m. on Friday and at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Doors will open one hour prior to the start times, both nights.

O        The Thunderslam Monster Truck shows start at 7:30 p.m. both nights. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m.; with the pre-show Pit Party taking place from 6:00 p.m. to 7:10 p.m. Tickets to the Pit Party are an additional $5.00 each and are available at the Memorial Coliseum Ticket Office. (Monster Truck event ticket required for entry to Pit Party.)

O        Guests are encouraged to arrive early and carpool with friends and family, if at all possible.

O        Eastbound traffic on Coliseum Boulevard is encouraged to remain in the middle lane, passing Parnell Avenue, and enter the parking lot at the Coliseum Boulevard entrance at Paul Shaffer Drive.

The MC should have police officers on Coliseum and Parnell to help move traffic. When they had the WWE earlier, I was stuck at Parnell and Coliseum thru at least 6 cycles of the traffic light. I'm surprised there were not any accidents with the way everyone cut each other off, and blowing thru red lights.

The time is two hours until the game begins.

Thinking to myself how ironic this week is. Remember back when the schedule was announced? Lots of confidence that the K's would be a top team in the league, noticing that the K's had a lot of home games at the very end of the schedule (we are always successful at home, right?), and Colorado, with Brad MacMillan, coming in for the final two games. "What a showdown. Hope we are tough enough for the beating MacMillan is sure to hand out".

Remember?

Well, how times have changed. Here we are with a totally different team in the midst of a 4-6-2 streak. Players are dead tired, dead in the water, pretty much dead in the standings.

This is Fort Wayne not Phoenix. Yet we expect them to rise from the dead.

The word "character" is a term that the team and management like to use to partially describe the type of player the Komets strive to get. Well, most of the time true "character" is displayed when things aren't going well. When someone, or in this case, a team has to battle their way through adversity. It looks to me as this is the perfect time to display "character" and to fight their way through the finish of the regular season.

Only 1 hour and 30 minutes till the puck is dropped. The fans will be there, the teams will be there, will the "character" be there?

Only time will tell.

Monster truck fans are almost as awesome as the wrasslin fans.. or are they the same fans?

Informing the general public is good enough, no need to actually do anything about it. I mean really, hiring some cops to direct traffic wouldn't be all that difficult. Would it?

Thanks, RobC.

My drive to the MC usually takes me about 4 - 7 minutes. When it takes me 45 minutes using the same route and leaving early, then there's a major problem....

I think now that the traffic lights are installed traffic control would be the responsibility of the city but I'm not 100% sure of that. But either way someone should have traffic control in place and it's a shame if they don't.

It would have been helpful the night WWE was in town. I witnessed enough bad driving and traffic, I'm surprised I didn't see any wrecks (about a dozen close calls at one light!)
