As much as I hate more ads (the world is looking more like the Talking Heads "Love for Sale" video every day) at least this is one more thing that will make the MC look more like the big arenas. So that's cool. :)

I was kind of surprised that the ribbon board was'nt installed when the new scoreboard was...anyway, it will be interesting to see how it will look in the arena.

So I guess this means they will still be charging us $4 to park, even though that was "only increased to pay for the roof renovation."

I vote for free parking & $1.00 BEER

Zach, I remember when they first started charging to park. It was when they finally paved the parking lot and they said it would probably go back to being free after the lot was paid for.

Dshebig probably remembers when the lot was hitching rails in a field.

All things considered $4.00 is tolerable. All the after hours/weekend free parking downtown went to $4.00 or more when the stadium was opened.

The banner sounds cool... wish they'd do something about the women's restroom in the lower level tho. Floor is always wet, looks like there's a stream running across it.

You'd think women would be able to hit the target, especially when they're sitting on it lol

Steve-I don't go back that far. Sorry. I do remember tracks where the High Tension towers are, I also remeber when Coliseum was California Rd. and only 2 lanes wide. I also remember the Zollner Pistons playing at the park and the field was the other way around. Home plate now was deep center field than. Thats enough history.

Obviously the situation with the women's bathroom won't be fixed unless paper towels with a sponsor's name on them can be sold to the patrons at a profit.

I love progress.

New banner boards will be awesome.

The dang Redheads keep plugging up the MC Crappers. Must be all that fruitcake they like to eat. Way to go CarrotHeads. LOL

Wed, 01/27/2010 - 10:25pm

The fruitcake would stop it up....the floor problem is caused by the foo foos, which cause us to miss the target entirely, apparently...first I'm hearing about this. Wasn't me! LOL....

Crappers....who started calling them that anyway? Was it Mr. Crapper? How do these things get such names? They just sound funny right off the get go.

Speaking of this, is there a bathroom on the bus, DSchebig? No one better clog that up....where are we stopping to eat on the way? Maybe their restrooms would be a better idea. LOL. I'm so looking forward to this trip!

Bathroom is on the bus. "No" fruitcakes in the Jon. Stopping at "Old Country Buffett" for Fruitcake and Foo Foo's. I may let the redhead out from under the bus. If they are nice and behave :)

Thomas Crapper invented the toilet. Didn't I post that here before? Maybe I didn't. Let me find it....sheesh. Redheads.

So he didn't invent it, he improved it....and for that I memorialize the chap by calling my throne, the Crapper.

Dschebig-remember Coliseum also being called the Circumurban? Not sure about the spelling on that or maybe it should be hyphenated. I remember when you could drive down it and look towards town and see the light going around on top of the Lincoln Tower.

Blake, this is totally off the subject, but I feel as though it might be worth your time and would certainly help inform Komet fans..... We know that the IHL meetings have concluded and I would request that you interview David and/or Michael Franke to get their views, opinions, and facts regarding the recent rumors about Muskegon, where the IHL is today, where and IF it will be next year, and the future of the Komets organization. There are rumors flying everywhere about a lot of stuff and one that is going around is that this will be the last year for the IHL. Look, some of this is for personal reasons also. I have four season tickets. I have just been billed for my playoff tickets ( no problem there as it is understood with season tickets you are to automatically get billed for the playoff tickets ) that is due Feb 27th or 28th. Then, not long after that we will be put on notice that if we want to hold our tickets a $100 deposit per season ticket is required by a certain date. Then we will be billed for the balance of the season tickets due by the end of July to receive the "early bird" rates. All this money floating toward the Komets is not a problem unless the present landscape of hockey in Fort Wayne changes. I think the Franke's would be doing the K's fans a favor ( and probably doing themselves a favor, too) by clearing the "air" on some of the things going on. Blake, you have mentioned many times, in your comments to us, of the turmoil in minor league hockey. We hear of so many negative things, and disposable income is getting harder and harder to come by, that a "state of the IHL" in general and a "state of the Fort Wayne Komets" in particular may, unfortunately, be a necessary evil at this time. Blake, if you can, do us all a favor and request an interview. Make it honest, open, and frank. Thanks in advance, Alan.

Wendy--I seen Carrot-top he's a friend of mine and your no Carrot-top! Sound like I am running for political office? Nope, I am not (to much self respect) Carrot-top is a guy and you for sure to not qualify in that regards. You my friend are a "Lady". I know Burgee is going to blog foul me for that.

Actually, you are wrong. IHL meetings have not even been held yet. Michael and the commissioner were in Las Vegas for a hockey trade show. IHL meetings are not until Feb. 8-9.

And seriously, Alan, do you really think I need you to tell me how to do my job? I have other responsibilities that sometimes have to take precedence over the Komets, and that story will get done. It's already on the schedule.

JR

The Frankes will just say everything is A ok....

Alan
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 1:00pm

MR. SEBRING, NO ONE IS TRYING TO TELL YOU HOW TO DO YOUR JOB! THINGS ARE GOING ON THAT NEED TO BE EXPLAINED, VERIFIED, OR DENIED. ALL I DID WAS "REQUEST" THAT YOU ASK SOME QUESTIONS THAT HAVE A FINANCIAL, OR AT THE VERY LEAST, AN ENTERTAINMENT AFFECT ON MANY PEOPLE. THIS IS THE MIDWAY POINT IN THE SEASON. WHAT BETTER TIME TO HAVE A DISCUSSION ABOUT THE "STATE" OF THE INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE AND ITS DIRECTION? ONE MORE THING, HOW THE HECK AM I SUPPOSED TO KNOW WHAT STORIES ARE "ALREADY ON THE SCHEDULE." JUST THE FACT YOU MENTIONED IT MAKES ME BELIEVE THAT I AM RIGHT ON TARGET ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS. THE REASON I ENDED MY POST WITH "MAKE IT HONEST, OPEN AND FRANK," WAS NOT DIRECTED AT YOU, BUT BECAUSE OF WHAT JR POSTED, THE BELIEF THAT "THE FRANKE'S WILL JUST SAY EVERYTHING IS A-OK".....MAYBE WE SHOULD GO BACK TO THE MORE IMPORTANT AND RELATIVE THINGS LIKE "HOW MANY NUTS ARE IN FRUITCAKE" OR "HOW MANY RED-HEADS WILL FIT IN A PENALTY BOX WITH FOO-FOO DRINKS. IF YOU TOOK THE TIME TO READ MY POST AGAIN, YOU WILL FIND THAT I TRIED TO BE VERY POLITE. I USED WORDS LIKE "ASKING" AND "REQUEST" AND EVEN ENDED IT BY THANKING YOU IN ADVANCE. INSTEAD OF BEING OFFENDED BY MY ASKING YOU TO DO THIS, YOU SHOULD HAVE FELT COMPLIMENTED. AFTER ALL, I COULD HAVE ASKED YOUR RIVAL TO DO THE SAME THING BUT I DIDN'T BECAUSE I RESPECT YOUR STYLE OF REPORTING.

All caps? Seriously? RELAX, it's just a hockey blog.

hello bam24. i am very relaxed. your post, minus the "all caps?", would have fit very well as a response to Mr. Sebrings' post also.

AHL arenas have ribbon style video boards. ;-)

Steve
Thu, 01/28/2010 - 4:03pm

So does at least one ECHL arena that I know of (ribbon video boards).

State of hockey in the fort next year? I'm sure it will be here. A different league? Who knows, but I hope not and would say the odds are it will still be the IHL.

For me, I'll wait and see but I refuse to get worried about it because I'm that confident that we'll have hockey.

What League? AHL? Doubtful but I suppose a remote possibility. Now that I've retired I'd hate to see the increase in ticket prices.

ECHL? Probably the greatest possibility if the I folds. Not much difference then what we have now except more teams and younger talent with more call ups.

A lower league? I doubt it but if that does happen then I will have to think a few things through as far as my season tickets go. I have lived in areas where my only choice to see live hockey were leagues lower then what we have now and I didn't hesitate. I love hockey.

Who knows what is going to happen? Right now no one, I'm sure. It's all too easy to get caught up in rumors and whisperings. I'm sure some of the concern is genuine but I think it's a bit early to start.

Speaking of other leagues, does anyone know how many tickets have been sold for the upcoming game between the Evansville Icmen and the Battlecreek Revolution? Can't imagine too many Fort Wayne folks being willing to pay see a lower level game. Seems like a situation where Komet season ticket holders should have been given free tickets to help fill the seats. According to reports, the teams are trying to set class A professional hockey's minor league attendance record.
