Tailing the Komets

A couple of notes

You may have seen a little history tonight and not even realized it. The Komets' off-ice officials checked the tape after the game on Sean O'Connor's goal and added an assist to goaltender Tim Haun, giving him two assists tonight. He's the first Komets goaltender since Aaron MacDonald on Nov. 6, 1999 to get two assists in a game. That might be the team record, but no one knows officially if any Komets goaltender has ever had three in a game -- unless Dubchak (Neal) knows of someone.

The Komets' record for goaltender assists in a season is six by Murray Bannerman in 1977-78.

The Komets also lost their home penalty killing streak at 30, which is pretty amazing.

Rick Varone tweaked his knee after scoring his goal and said he's day-to-day.

Hi Blake,

Couple of questions about last night's game.

I noticed Hukalo was wearing the alternate captain "A" last night, but Chaulk no longer has one. I know in the "old" IHL, assistant coaches couldn't wear the C or A, yet Chaulk has worn the A the past two years and at past home games this year. What happened?

Also, on the IHL scoresheet, Chaulk isn't given credit for an assist on Chwedoruk's goal, even though he made the pass that set it up (it only lists Dupuis as an assist). Any idea about this?

Thanks!

Actually, I was pretty sure Guy made the pass to Chwedoruk. I know they reviewed it. This is a good question for Dschebig to chime in on. The off-ice officials review every goal (that's how they gave Tim Haun a second assist last night) and ask the players for help a lot.

As for the A, they changed that rule a couple of years ago so that assistant coaches could wear an A or a C. I'm not sure what happened there, but I will try to ask. It might have been when Colin was gone last week they gave it to Huks. P.C., Bertram, Chaulk and Huks have all worn the A at different times. I think Leo did once last year, too.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense with the "A" situation.

Unrelated question for you or Dennis or anyone in the know...
is there a current numerical list of the IHL referees and linesmen?

Blake, as you know, Dubchak and I are into every bit of info related to hockey, and we can remember when the programs had the numbers of officials (and later names when they dropped the numbers). I've looked on the IHL website and tried internet searches with no luck.

Thanks!

There's a list of on-ice officials in the IHL media guide, but no listing of numbers. I haven't seen one of those in a long, long time. Last night's ref is not on the list.

I had heard one assist announced for Haun but didn't know about the other until I read this! That's cool. Haun definately likes to play the puck, makes me nervous sometimes. Mom thinks he should have to wear a shock collar that zaps him if he gets too far away from the net... I think we have another Reiter on our hands. I remember seeing him come out to the blue line to play pucks.
Anyone know what happened to Little Willy last night? Didn't see him at all after the fight.

After further review: We had to take away the assist to Chaulk. He did not touch the puck. If anyone cares Chuck Bailey reviews those with us so the players can hear it from him and he can answer their questions. For some reason we all missed the assist to Leo Thomas on P.C. Drouins goal. Guy told us right after they announced the goal. At that point we make notes and wait until we can review it to be sure. That explains Tim Hauns 2nd. assist. When Guy Dupius ask for any points for any player he is almost always correct.
We never know until just before the game who the officials will be. The young man last night is from Des Moines, IA. He left here and was on his way to Toledo for a game tonight. He looked so young (he's 24) I asked him if his Mother new where he was. He had a real good laugh than I told him I had underwear old than he was. I do not think he called to bad of a game. It was his first time in the Fort. He loved the crowd and the building.

The pen is mightier than the stick.

I wore my komets sock hat, komets jacket, Komets sweat pants and carried my Komets key chain today.

If you go to Pointstreak on the day of a game and click on the pregame sheet it will show who the ref is for the game. You can get it for up to 3 games and know before you go to the game who the ref is.

One thing you can be sure of with "Pointstreak" is you can't be sure of "Pointstreak". The software is not the best. For example: When a team scores a shorthanded goal it racks up plus's for those on the offense and minus's for the defense. It tries to add those on Powerplay goals and there aren't any so you need to over-ride them. WE have spent much time after the game getting it straight before it gets filed.

Sharon--Under normal situations the referee and linesman assigned by the League & on pointstreak are the guys who do the game. It has no idea if someone get sick or can not make it. Changes are made pointstreak never knows it untill after the game sometimes.

FMM: even better.....my advice for Reiter was to tie him to the crossbars with an orange bungee cord. I'm thinking the same for Haun. I lost 2-3 pounds per game just stressing when Reiter played, and my whole section would laugh at me for yelling at him to get back in that net. Please don't explain to me the whole "cuts the angle" nonsense. Been there, heard that. All it does is make me nervous and the net partially empty. And I like Haun. Liked Reiter too. They just make me nervous the way they play!!
