Tailing the Komets

Couple of notes

* The Komets are starting informal preseason skating today at Canlan from 10-11 a.m. The sessions are open to the public. They'll be going Monday through Thursday until training camp starts.

* A couple of long-time bloggers who do not wish to be identified are having some health problems and could use some prayers. When you don't think there's anything you can do, you can always pray. There have been quite a few examples on here over the past few years where it has worked.

* I'm still looking for any original and current season-ticket holders if you know of anyone. So far, bloggers have found three for me.

As much as I hate to say this, until/if Peyton comes back, they are going to be in serious trouble. I still cannot believe they did not draft a quarterback to start learning under Peyton for the future (I bet they don't make that mistake again next year). If Peyton doesn't play and the Colts tank this season, maybe they can draft Luck next year (wishful thinking). So, with no Peyton, I say the Bears easily win this contest. I just threw up in my mouth thinking about that.

And now the Colts will suffer for placing all their eggs in one basket....

I would like to see them throw Painter out there for the first regular season game or so and decide one way or the other if he's a capable stop-gap until Manning is ready before they hand Collins the offense and tell him to have at it after only a handful of practices with the Colts.

Several players have spoken out for Painter, he knows the entire playbook, and he's been practicing with these guys for alot longer... See what he can do...

What is the point having painter if not to play him? A back up...thats not worth being a back up...bring in another back up...I don't get it.

I do not want Painter as the QB, he's terrible. He's proven that with his play. There is a reason he's the backup. Give me a proven veteran like Collins over Painter anyday of the week. The NFL is a quarterback league, the Colts are no doubt in trouble until Peyton gets healthy.

How many regular season games has Painter played?

Manning was terrible his first season; but they continued to work with him during the regular season...

Give Painter a shot when the games mean something, then label him after that...

Im not a bears fan but they will get more wins than the colts. The team who will have the most successful year in the area will be the lions.

For those bloggers that are having health concerns, we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers...get well soon.

I have the feeling there is more to the story regarding Peyton Manning and the Colts. Why would the team bring in a guy that retired several months earlier? The Colts never brought in someone before that I can recall when Manning was doubtful....food for thought?

If Manning is out for awhile, the Bears are going to have more wins.

Manning was the No. 1 overall pick in 1998. He had a tremendous upside. The Colts sucked that year period

My thoughts and prayers go out to those bloggers having health problems.

I believe Carson Palmer will report to the Bengals sometime this week. If he does then the Bengals are obligated to pay him. I think he and Mike Brown have had discussions and those discussions included that Brown would trade him if he came in to save dollars. Palmer will go wherever the Bengals get the best deal. With Manning's future in doubt, don't be surprised if the Bengals and Colts make a deal.

Plenty of #1 Qb's have come in with big upside to only stink up the NFL for years...

If Palmer ends up in a Colts uniform its because Manning is done for the season... No way the Colts trade for a QB set to make 11 million if theres a chance Manning plays this season...

Good and logical poit JR1. I guess a lot will depend on Manning's prognosis. At any rate, I still think Palmer reports to the Bengals. His reporting will force a move by Mike Brown as Brown will never pay that kind of money for Palmer again.

Just for kicks, I'd be interested to know who you all may think are "locks" for the Komet roster.

Admittedly I'm not sure how many players can be kept on the roster this year. Is it twenty or twenty-one ( or more if you count IR spots). So, without knowing that fact, here is my guess.

Forwards: Brett Smith
Artem Podshendyalov
Chris Auger
Kaleigh Shrock
Colin Chaulk
Bobby Chaumont

Defensemen: Frankie DeAngelis
Jamie Milam
S. Mangos
Craig Cescon
Dave Starenky

Obviously there will be two goaltenders of which Boucher will be one.

As it stands today that would leave five spots open for forwards and only two spots open for defensemen.

Also I am assuming that these players will report to camp, and that none who are attending an AHL camp play their way on an AHL roster.

Remember that we still have mightbite's "big Komet news" yet to hear and we have Blake's AHL and ECHL camp cuts yet to explore.

The problem with my list is that I haven't given any thought at all to the # of veterans nor the # of developmental players on it.

So let me know what you think. Give me your list. Nobody is right and nobody is wrong. Just kind of thought this may be fun as we stand 4-1/2 weeks away from camp.

I just hope this is a truly 'open' camp......

If the young guys out perform or show more upside than keeping vets like Drouin or Thomas on the roster, then I would like to see them keep the young kids...

The only three I would take off your 'locks' list are Starenky, Auger, and Chaumont...

I think LEO and PC are probably locks no matter what....and I know what they said and what everyone will say...but come on, the Komets are loyal to the vets. Always have been, always will be.

That is no knock on Leo or PC. They might come in and play very well. Great.

I am super interested in Stephon Thorne. The clips I have seen of this kid are something special. He is a spark plug and can play hockey. He would be the new crowd favorite and the biggest thorn in the side of our opponents ever.

I think I will reserve my "famous" lines unitl I see some of thes other guys play. I feel bad about cutting someone if I haven't given them a chance.

LOL

Alan, according to a story from Blake last year there are 5 developmental players who have played 128 games or less and the roster total is 19.

We have 5 vets and 2 goalies that will make it and I don't see them cutting Apod, Schrock or Milam. That's 10 of the 19 and the ones I see as sure bets. That's not counting Frankie or Lapointe or Cescon. Frankie might count as a developmental player along with Apod.

4 of the 9 other roster spots have to be developmental players but theirs nearly 20 guys left who have been signed. Decisions, decisions! Some good guys are going to have to go.

When the Komets open up a slow footed senior league team I will hope Henley is the first guy they sign.

I'd love Blake to interview him and get his thoughts about the recent NHL goon deaths.
