Tailing the Komets

A couple thoughts

Are the Komets that good, or are the Generals just that bad. The Generals were down to one goaltender tonight because Jason Spezza got hurt last night. Unfortunately for goaltender Jordan Alford, they are also down to no defensemen. What a joke. Jared Dumba is probably their best defenseman and he's a converted forward. It wouldn't have mattered if Patrick Roy was in net tonight because the Generals were over-matched and under-represented.

I was wondering the same thing Blake. Are we that good, or are the Generals that bad? I would love for this league to be competitive, I think it needs to be competitive for survival, but wow what a game tonight!

Osman is the real deal, and I hope that he sticks with us for most of the season, or be back by the playoff's if he moves up.

I rode Danko Mironovic hard in the preseason, and I thought he did a good job tonight, and he even had some nice shots in the first period.

I hope that Boulay is ok, that was a nasty hit.

Gravelle plays a tough game, but might want to work on his fighting.

P.C.'s goal was pretty, nice touch around the goal.

Flint just seemed to give up, and never really seemed into the game after they did not score on the 2 man advantage. I felt bad for the goalie, no defense in front of him. I did meet some nice Generals fans tonight though.

I think it will be interesting to see how the season plays out. I think Musky will be a great game when we play them.

Sure was fun tonight, and I am glad that they brought back the Canadian National Anthem.

GO KOMETS!

Hard to know, but I think maybe the Komets really are that good, and the Flint defense is that bad.

The quality of shots we got in the third period was awesome, and I think something eventually broke in the Flint mentality.

I do think that Huk should have gotten a star of the game. He came off the penalty, went right out and made a great play at center ice, and then got the goal that opened the flood gates. I think his play was a real momentum turner.

I may be in the minority, but I don't like the new scoreboard, though it was kind of funny when they put "fighting" up in big red letters while it was showing one of the first period fights, and when it cut to the guy with the big bandana during another replay. I don't think the replays really show the action, its distracting, the sound meter is dumb, I have a harder time picking up the time left on penalties, and I think the thing makes for a more passive interaction between the crowd and the game. I also discovered the sound where I sit (upper 213) has a more diffuse quality that makes it harder to understand the words of the PA. But hey, all that's just me and I have to admit it's cool.

I agree with Charliecraword and like hearing 'O Canada'. It is, for me, the best highlight of opening night. I guess I understand why we don't sing it before every game (though would it really be that big a burden?) but why doesn't the 'Maple Leaf' hang on the wall next to the US flag as is often done in places playing hockey?

One more thing, I thought that the Flint jersey's looked cheap, and why not put the names on the back!?!?

I agree with intotheblue, we should at least have the "Maple Leaf" hanging next to the American Flag.

hate to do it Blake but i think Jason Spezza plays for the Senators. As much as Matt wishes he had his brothers money and fame The flint Generals Goalie can only listen to stories of the NHL from his brother. Is it Just me or are the Generals Headed South with him as the coach.

The 3rd period got to the point that it was like watching someone kick puppies. Unfortunately, there's no way to "run out the clock" in hockey. I hope Muskegon, Kzoo, and Bloomington don't roll over like PH and Flint did. Otherwise the "I" isn't long for this world. (Oh, and who was that "national recording artist" that did the National Anthem? Advice - just sing the song!)
