Crime of the century

A budding crime career is nipped in the bud:

A 7-year-old child allegedly shot a Nerf-style toy gun in his Hammonton, N.J., school Jan. 18. No one was hurt, but the pint-size softshooter now faces misdemeanor criminal charges.

[. . .]

The "gun" the child brought to school was a $5 toy gun, similar to a Nerf gun, that shoots soft ping pong type balls, according to the school's superintendent.

[. . .]

Dr. Dan Blachford, the Hammonton Board of Education superintendent, said the school has a zero tolerance policy.

"We are just very vigilant and we feel that if we draw a very strict line then we have much less worry about someone bringing in something dangerous," said Blachford.

He could have turned into a serial killer or even a Jerry Lewis fan. Nyuk, nyuk.

I'm surprised they didn't put the school on lockdown and call out the swat team.

This is your America in 2011, really makes ya proud doesn't it?

Tim:
They probably DID, but asked the media to refrain from telling THAT part of the story, for fear of (deserved) ridicule.

Yeah, those PING PONG BALLS can be DEADLY, especially if wielded by some child without proper training at an accredited ping-pong academy (like CHINA).

;)

Talk about "someone " needing some BALLS...!

Zero tolerance means zero thinking. How often do we read about a high school girl getting expelled for having a Midol in her purse?
When I was a boy in West Virginia (here comes an "old feller" story) boys would carry loaded .22s to school during squirrel season and keep them in their lockers. I carried my oversized Boy Scout knife. Nobody gave those things a second thought.
