Tailing the Komets

Deal is complete

Komets general manager David Franke said the deal for forward Noah Whyte is complete and has approval from the UHL.

``He's listed as a left wing on their roster but he's been playing center,'' Franke said.  ``We wanted another legitimate centerman to come in. We're hoping he can step in and help us out. We wanted a little more versatility at the position.''

Franke said that the Komets would prefer that Kelly Miller or David Carpentier did not have to play at center, and that Whyte will probably end up as the team's 10th forward.

Franke also said the Komets will be releasing a player in the morning.

Let's take that and add up the lines:

1)Galbraith-Chaulk-Rumble
2)Goodwin-Drouin-Miller
3)Hunter-Luciuk-Hukalo
10th forward: Carpentier
Extra Guys: Frawley, Whyte, Summerfield(reportedly relaesed)

Where in the heck is Whyte going to play center? In front of Luciuk or Drouin? I contest that he will play the center of Section 225 somewhere near the players wives.

What are we missing with this pick-up?
Is there another trade coming Blake? Spill your guts man!!!

Well I guess that makes sense...He is a legitimate centerman..this is how we shape up roster wise?

12 forwards
Miller, PC, Goodwin
Galbraith, Chaulk, Rumble
Hukalo, Luciuk, Hunter
Frawley*, Whyte*, Carpentier*

6 Defenseman
Jorde and Neumeier
Guinn and Lindsay*
and Dupuis
Bozoian* and Patten* on IR

2 Goalies
Frenchy
Kurk*

*=Rookies we have 8 if my calculations are right.

Who is odd man out on nightly basis. Who has to be let go when Bozoian comes off IR or does anyone have to be let go??

Rules say each game you can have 18 skaters of which four have to be rookies. You can only have 19 on active roster 17 skaters and 2 goalies. If everyone was healthy we would have to let go 3 I assume?

Someone help me if these figures are wrong.

Forgot Jaram, right?

Why wouldn't the Frankes want Kelly Miller or Carpentier to play center anyway? Before Carpentier was hurt, he played a good center. Kelly Miller is a legitimate center and faces-off very well. These two guys haven't been playing Center of late anyway. It has been Chaulk, Drouin, and Luciuk. Is there some kind of hint in what they said? Is one of the last three mentioned being traded? Kind of sounds like it.

David

I believe Jarram was put on a non-roster spot because he is out for the year

David

If they are going to trade anybody the only one I can see being trade is Galbraith. I know he has come on as late, but he is leading our team in +/-'s on the negative time. His play lately has made him a possible trade candidate IMO. I am not advocating trading Lance because he is our last fighting forward we have, but I wouldn't be surprised if they did deal him. They can not deal Chaulk or PC they make too much and if they dealt Luciuk then I would say Franke needed his head examine.

Still seems as if there is something on the Horizon though, doesn't it. I noticed that Blake is pretty quiet on this one. Justin is speaking a little, but kind of off topic and not giving anything up. I want them to add a good defensemen and a top-line forward "sniper." But what do we have to give up to get those guys? It worries me some that we are this deep in the season and the revolving door is still spinning. Guys are finally starting to gel. I wonder if Wednesday's game made somebody mad and decided it was time to make a move before we blow more third period leads to weak opponents. Also, maybe they are trying to make a move to sure up the defense since we have been playing only 5 and guys are hurt and hurting I bet.

I bet there will be a big trade for a defenseman. If you look at what Blake said; That Whyte would play center and would end up the 10th forward. That would mean one of the current top 10 forwards is gone. Which one is it?

David
Thu, 02/23/2006 - 9:08pm

Time will tell on what is on the Horizon and I bet Blake went to bed it is past his bed time. We need a chat room for late nighters like us, but I have enjoy our conversation on this matter. If we are going to make a deal it would be with an east coast team. I am not sure there is anyone in the central division we would want unless our trading buddies in Kzoo have something going on, but I doubt that. Who would we want out east? Kohler we wanted to sign but he resigned with Frostbite. Maybe they would deal him but I doubt it. I would like us to get Littlejohn as a power forward. That is my pie in the sky request. I do not know what defenseman is out there to get and suggestions?

David
Thu, 02/23/2006 - 9:12pm

I say Galbraith as one of them or even a Hukalo, but I can not see them dealing Hukalo. Who also could be in there..here is a stab at it for tradable guys:

Hunter, Galbraith, Hukalo, Carpentier, but he is a rookie, and Rumble. They I do not think would be able to deal a Chaulk or a PC because of their salary. Of the two only PC would be a longshot possibility. The Fort would have a riot if they deal Chaulk.

I think Justin's up late.

Yep, he is. He thought maybe possible deal coming. He is not sure though.

Defensemen from the east that are worth trading for:
Richmond: Dan Vandermeer 11gls, 54ast, 65pts, +13
Adirondack: Scott Drevitch 38pts, +3
Bob Rapoza 17pts, +18
Danbury: Malsaac 29pts, +21
Belanger 27pts, +14
Danbury is loaded with D-Men who have good +/- and points. They also brought in Sellars and maybe looking to move one of the others and try to add a forward. Just a guess.

When was the last time a fight won a hockey game? From all the years I have been going to games, never once has a fight been counted up on the scoreboard as a goal. The game has changed and no matter how much people moan about it, the fighting is just not in the game right now. It's exciting to see a fight, but it can only sometimes change the tempo, not the outcome. I have to stop reading these things, it drives me nuts.

David

The UHL as a league ave is about 1 1/2 fights per game so it is apart of the game, but the most entertaining part....

Thu, 02/23/2006 - 10:04pm

Or it could be that Blake just wanted to enjoy the rest of his day off, and never considered it would start a feeding frenzy among the bloggers. LOL. C'mon, by now you guys ought to realize that Puhalski loves players who can play more than one position. It could just be that.

As for Miller and Carpentier at center, could it possibly be something as simple as they feel they are more effective at wing?

Not everything is a conspiracy. In other words, you guys know what I know up to the minute.

LOL I love how the Komets just picked up Whyte a day ago and already we have talks of Galbraith or Miller leaving, picking up a guy from the east, a possible riot if they trade PC off, so on and so forth....I'm not bashing you guys at all for your convo, infact just the opposite. reading the posts are fun. Several possibilities have been brought up to what this could mean when it might not mean anything except we got another player. I think this shows how passionate Komets fans are about our team.

Hey, no Home Komet games this week. We are bored. We were just burning up your blog boards with lots of fun dreaming and speculating. Whyte is a head scratcher though. I still think something bigger is coming. Right?

Blake, you kind of remind me of somebody's Dad coming home late at night to find out that the kids had been having a wild party and you happened to walk in right at the end and saw all the garbage laying around. And you didn't even get any beer because it was all gone. Man, I bet you were peeved.

Now go to your room! You've probably got school tomorrow.

Just having fun.

PA Guy, err, Larry....Fighting is still part of the game. Just not in Fort Wayne at the MC as much. I don't think anyone on this particular blog was making any big point about fighting anyway. We were discussing, or maybe playing GM for the day and making trades. Actually we were trying to figure out how another skater, 6foot 185pound and 16 points, could make any difference on this team right now. My guess is he will look real nice sitting in section 225 with his girlfriend. Not being evil or mean, just realistic.

Blake, at 32, I wish I could have school tomorrow. This blog is therapy from a long week of work. Call it stress relief. This is what keeps me out of the looney bin believe it or not. Or maybe this is the looney bin, I can't tell.

Yes, Hit and I were just burning the midnight oil playing GM for the night. It was all good fun and wishful thinking no harm in that. We were just trying to justify why we paid cash for just "another" guy.

That's on the Komets' transaction page now. Any word from Dave Franke yet, even though it's basically pointless?

Blake, I have thought about the deal for Noah Whyte some more today, and I am just as confused today as I was last night. What is the big picture with this move? Is there someone hurt we don't know about? How is Noah going to play in the line-up tonight with Bozoian back tonight? Or is he back? The forwards should be:

Galbraith-Chaulk-Rumble
Goodwin-Drouin-Miller
Hunter-Luciuk-Hukalo
10th Forward: Carpentier?

Defensemen:
Jorde-Neumeier
Guinn-Dupuis
Bozoian-Lindsay

Right?

It looks like Whtye has never put any solid numbers up in Minor League Hockey. What is the attraction to him? What makes him so versatile? We have a team full of guys who are versatile. If he was so-called versatile and had 20 goals and 20 assists, this whole thing would be a different story. I know we are probably over-analyzing this deal, but we are very curious. It just makes no sense on some of the guys we bring in and get rid of after 5-10 games with few shifts to evaluate them and none of these guys have good numbers to start with. Guess we should have stuck with Mike Wiggins. That move has backfired. Kenny lasted, what 2 games, if that.

Blake
Fri, 02/24/2006 - 3:29pm

They put Frawley on team suspension. We'll just have to wait and see what they do with the lineup. It's possible they are setting up another trade. I do know they want another scorer. Another possibility? They are going to use this kid to sit down some of the other forwards to send a message. Maybe that makes somebody else trade bait (No, I have no idea who, I'm just throwing stuff against the wall).

As for Wiggins, I seem to remember somebody a lot like you complaining because he just wasn't big enough to do anything physically. There's no way he would have could have scored those points here because he was never going to be on the first line and get all the PP time he is in Roanoke. Minus-17, too.

Looks to me like the Ks are finally set with all the rookies they need, which could have been a big problem if one rookie went down.

Interesting to me that we started the season with one true center and now we probably have six guys who can play there.

I never complained about Mike Wiggins. I thought he was in a circumstance where the team is starting out very poorly and he was suffering from that poor start. I thought he had loads of talent as he looked very good last year for the few games we had him. Never did I complain about him. I did complain about keeping Worlton around if we aren't going to play him. That made no sense. I begged for a trade that woudl bring us a legitimate scoring threat. I guess I am still begging for that one. May still be begging next year, and the next...

My only reaction is, we traded him for nothing. Think back at the time we ditched him for Kenny, I think we gave away Vanderbreggen at the same time. The thought was that we needed a defensemen now and this Kenny guy was the answer. So we give away a Rookie with talent, make that two guys. We needed rookies on the roster at that time too. How is Kenny doing for the Komets right now? I know what your going to say, and I agree, you can't ever be sure how things will work out. This one was poor.

Will see who gets their ice time cut tonight in Flint. I bet Carpentier has his ice time cut because Hukalo has really come on as of late.

Hit Somebody!!!
Fri, 02/24/2006 - 4:15pm

They all ready have basically cut Carpentier's ice time because before he got injured he was producing well on a regular shift. He comes back and can't get in the game unless the other team scores a goal and then he plays the very next shift, and then waits for another goal to get another shift. I don't understand it?

As for you Mr. Blake. (I'm laughing) Next time you accuse me of saying that I complained about Mike Wiggins not being Physical or big enough to do anything, make sure you have the right guy. I just looked back at every post made since you started the blog up until the Wiggins trade and I never made such a post. As I said before, I made lots of complaints about not playing Worlton and just keeping him to sit in the stands and made complaints about needing a scoring threat. No big deal, call me every name in the book all you want. Use me as your scape-goat as always. Give me a hard time lots. Disagree with everything I write. Do you and Scoops dine together? Just kidding of course. You need fans like me to keep things interesting, don't you? Don't answer that.
